1. About time Israel fights its wars, US did Iraq for Israel
Joy ,   Las Vegas   (09.16.07)
and after 4000 US troops killed in Iraq, US can't and won't do any more wars for Israel. 100,000 Americans took to the streets today in DC demanding the immediate return of our troops from Iraq. If Israel and its supporters or "mideast experts/think tanks" as they call themselves in Washnignton, are waiting for US to fight Iran for them, they'll be waiting looooooooong time.
2. # 1 you r right but !!
WaeL ,   Kuwait 7 Palestine   (09.16.07)
Israel wont fight iran it will just give the American another reason to go in another war against another nation , for example, it will bomb an US aircraft carrier and make it looks like iran did it , then u know the rest :)))) ,. have anice day amigo (because if thast happens then we in kuwait will no longer be exist)
3. #1 - Israel warned the US about Iran not Iraq
Barron ,   Israel   (09.16.07)
The US has never, ever fought any war for Israel. The US fought a war for Kuwait, though. No bitchin' and moanin' about the ungrateful Kuwaitis and - especially - the Saudis. Bush never held hands with any Israeli, but he did with the Saudi king. And the Saudis are as much the enemy as the Iranians.
4. Totally wrong #1
Zoe ,   Israel   (09.16.07)
Israel fights its own wars. (Or maybe you conveniently forgot last year's battle.) BTW - You're in pure fantasy-land with those numbers attending the anti-war rally in DC. There were no more than 5000 protesters, and by some accounts, fewer than that.
5. Oh shut up Joy
Music ,   New York   (09.16.07)
unfortunately Israel has had to be in many wars, stop spouting your bullshit
6. Joy
George   (09.16.07)
Joy doesn't even know how many US troops have died in Iraq yet still feels fit to comment. I am amused how you say the US went head first into Iraq through no choice of it's own. Yes, it was all for Israel, because the US is so politically pliant? The US would never start a war if it wasn't for Israel. Except for Vietnam, Korea, Panama, Grenada, Cuba, Mexico and a handful of others. Give me a break.
7. US did Iraq for oil interests
JG   (09.16.07)
Wake up Joy. US did Iraq for oil interests.

11. #1. If truth be known.....
Ram ,   London   (09.16.07)
the US has never fought any actual war for Israel, and certainly not effectively. The US has in Israel an ally that knows how to use the tools it supplies to it effectively. This is the only effective support Israel receives from the US and it does not come free. As long as such a relationship exists between Israel and the US all will be OK. The interests of both countries will be taken care of, by Israel, in the ME, as in every true alliance. Don't think for even a moment that the US will not suffer the consequences of an unchecked Iran and Iraq!
12. Joy - #1 - for your information
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (09.16.07)
Ariel Sharon advised Pres. Bush NOT to invade Iraq! So, by saying what you said you are making a libelous statement. And if you - and your ilk - don't think that Iran is a danger to the whole world, then you are even more the fools than I thought you were! And, by the way, I used to be a Democrat!!
13. GIVE US THE FACTS MAN!
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (09.16.07)
WHO WOULD IMPART SUCH SENSITIVE INFORMATION TO THE OBSERVER WHERE DID THE OBSERVER GET ITS SECRET FACTS FROM? BY SURMISE IT COULD WELL BE ANOTHER COUNTRY IF PROVEN TO BE TRUE .,THE LEAK IS SERIOUS AND SHOULD BE A PROSECUTABLE OFFENCE .FOR IT HAS THE ABILITY TO DISRUPT TURKISH ISRAEL RELATIONSHIPS AND UNLESS CALCULATED ,FURTHER UPGRADE THE WAR FOOTING WITH SYRIA
14. to joy
avi ,   israel   (09.16.07)
Joy everything the US does is because of its own interest, if they went to war with iraq, it was because they thought was the best thing to do for national interest. And before insulting Israel, use your head and think what the US gain in helping Israel.
15. Iraq and Israel
rafi   (09.16.07)
have nothing to do with each other since the bombing of the nuclear reactor on 1981 and in the golf war, Trust me Israel wanted to get invovled but we didnt as a request from the u.s

Israel is being supported by the US as its one strong and reliable ally in a region loaded with oil interests.

20. For Israel?
Robert ,   US   (09.16.07)
Saddam tried to kill Bush's daddy, that and oil was the reason for Iraq. Does the US sell Billions of Arms to Saudi Arabia for Israel's benefit too? So much good this war did, now the US needs to suck up to arab coutries to calm the storm in Iraq. America should take responsibility for their own actions, instead of looking for a scapegoat. Was Vietnam Israel's falt too?
21. to # 1
RobertK ,   Jerusalem   (09.16.07)
What an ignorant, hateful post, Joy. The Israeli political, military, and intelligence community actually discouraged the U.S. from invading Iraq. Brush up on your facts.
22. Joy # 1
AJ ,   Tel Aviv   (09.16.07)
Actually, the US went into Iraq to protect its oil interests, and so Bush could avenge Saddam's plan to assassinate Bush's father 10 years before. The invasion was poorly planned and hasty, and America has ended up in a morass of its own making. Don't blame your lack of strategic planning on Israel. We know very well how to handle our enemies: We took out Iraq's incipient nuclear programme in a clean and creative strike in 1982 and the world screamed like hell. Imagine how many Americans would have died ten years later (Gulf War I), had Israel not sorted out the Iraqi nuclear threat. If and when Israel sorts out Iran, we'll do it quickly and decisively. The world will condemn us as usual, but breathe a quiet sigh of relief that Israel has taken on what the world is too chicken to handle itself.
23. Joy
Ehud ,   TA   (09.16.07)
1. The US has never gone to war unless required to protect American interests. 2. Israel has always fought its wars alone. 3. The US - out of interest for itself as well as for its allies in Europe and Israel - is very likely to tackle the problem of Iran. 4. I don't think you will have to wait a loooooooong time.
24. There is a lot of guessing in this report and former reports

26. Iraq war 'was for oil'
AJ ,   Tel Aviv   (09.16.07)
A timeous article from Reuters (16 September 2007), an organisation not known for its pro-Israel views. Iraq war 'was for oil' Washington - Former Federal Reserve Chairperson Alan Greenspan in a memoir to be released on Monday declares that the prime motive for the war in Iraq was oil. Greenspan also criticised President George W Bush and congressional Republicans for abandoning fiscal discipline and for putting politics ahead of sound economics. The London Sunday Times reports it is Greenspan's view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. "I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil," he says. Greenspan, 81, is understood to believe that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the security of oil supplies in the Middle East. In his book, The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World, Greenspan said he was surprised Bush was unwilling to temper his campaign promises with fiscal reality once elected in 2000, as previous Republican administrations had done. "Little value was placed on rigorous economic policy debate or the weighing of long-term consequences," he said. "Much to my disappointment, economic policymaking in the Bush administration remained firmly in the hands of White House staff," he said. Greenspan, now 81, was the second longest-serving chairperson in the Fed's 93-year history when he stepped down in January 2006. Praise has been heaped on the New York native and self-described "libertarian Republican" for overseeing the longest US economic expansion on record. Greenspan built his reputation as Fed leader with his calm handling of the stock market crash of 1987, the 1997-1998 Asian and Russian financial crises, and the economic turbulence that followed the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. - Reuters
27. #1 You inflated your # of protestors by 95,000. Yep, u can
tell ur from LOST ,   WAGES!!!!!!!!   (09.16.07)
28. My last post
Josh ,   Canada   (09.16.07)
haha, actually I was a little off topic there. Israel fights its own wars, the US does help with some support but by no means fights Israels wars for them. Ask the US pilots who lose in war games with Israel and who in many circumstances gets trained by Israelis on how to use their own planes how good the Israelis are. I think Israel can handle itself, and it does. Mind you, even the loss of one Israeli makes war a bitch.
