1. Military action is always on gaza,it won´t stop it.
Michel   (09.19.07)
2. Uzi! Run for Prime Minister! I'll vote for you...
Leah ,   Tel Aviv   (09.19.07)
3. This guy is a hypocritical moron
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (09.19.07)
In the last election he headed a party calling for a "second disengagement" from large parts of the West Bank. If it were up to him we'ed be facing kassam fire from Samaria too, and then he could play the hawk and send kids to die in pointless temporary operations on two fronts!
4. How stupid our leadership has become
JPS ,   Efrat   (09.19.07)
Uzi Dayan has put in writing my own exasperated thoughts - why aren't there slit trenches beside each tent at Zikim? The current military leadership appears to be so stupid we have to must start asking out loud why they are making stupid decisions and saying stupid statements. The saying goes: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. There is absolutely NO reason to have a training base within range of enemy fire when you know they're shooting at you.
5. When All Else Fails, Time For Action
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (09.19.07)
On every level, from operational to moral, what is stated in this article is correct. However, the current regime cares NOTHING about Jewish life, and sheds no tears over its perilous condition. When at the helm of a supposed Jewish government sits a triumvate of post zionists-Peres, Olmert & Livni- it is impossible for them to act as normal leaders would. Asking, begging and shaming them into action will NOT work. They have other interests, foreign ones and financial ones. People who do not follow the region and these leaders actions, (which speak LOUDER than their empty words) can't fathom that a leader would subject its people to such terror without doing anything substantial. The issues are clear and stark - the 'people's army' has a sworn obligation to protect the people, as does the political leadership. HOWEVER, since the political leaders have abandoned the citizens, and will not unleash the might of the IDF - due to fear of harming the enemy population, and due to prostrating themselves before international dictates- it is the IDF Generals etc who must take over the reins. These reins would be held until a shadow gov't (which is being set up) is in place to take over. This gov't will be a national patriotic one which will surely protect Jewish national interests, as opposed to foreign ones. Stay tuned.
6. How long we have to wait
Hannah ,   Israel   (09.19.07)
to hear something worthwhile. How many useless and worthless 'opinion' pieces we are force fed until we get this, the first 'real thing' for a long long time. We'll wait just as long again, while all the ego fellows have their meaningless mantras printed here one after the other.
7. He mised one most important point
Itzik ,   Haifa   (09.19.07)
Israel CANNOT return to philadelphi rout. This is out of the question unless the whole Gaza is liberated. One cannot keep IDF of the enemy territory. If Gaza, Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria is "arab territory" than no Israeli soldier will be allowed there. NONE. This guy is an extreme coward left-winger who want to trick us into the left-wing scheme which will NEVER work.
8. UN and international law
Phil ,   US   (09.19.07)
UN'S DEFINITION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW: Any action, violent or passive that Israel takes to protect its citizens. Israel is not allowed to attack enemy kassam rockets if there are any civilians present. That the terrorists do not wear a uniform and dress like civilians does not matter. That the terrorists shoot their rockets from civilian terroritory does not matter. Israel is not permitted to respond according to the UN and various NGO organizations such as Human Rights Watch and the idiotic Israeli non-Israeli human rights movement. The author's suggestion to fight the rockets by military means is thus also a violation of UN law. The issue is whether Israel will allow the UN to help destroy the Jewish State or whether Israel will defend itself and its citizens.
9. Fine military man, but lacks moral vision
Steve ,   US   (09.19.07)
Daniel, #3 wrote: In the last election (Uzi Dayan) headed a party calling for a "second disengagement" from large parts of the West Bank. I cannot argue with this writer's strategic advise. No doubt he is a fine military man and a great military strategist. Mr. Dayan wrote that he won't accept any kind of insubordination. I suppose following orders in the military is paramount even if they are immoral orders and evil orders. U.S. military is much the same. US military has its fair share of anti-Semites at the highest levels. See: "Jewish Threat": Anti-Semitic Politics of the American Army Should American soldiers be ordered to fight Israelis, little doubt Uzi Dayan would frown on insubordination were he an American military officer. The fact that thousands of Jews were expelled from Gaza by IDF soldiers who in Mr. Dayan's estimation were properly carrying out orders from elected government is the reason I and many others believe we are in this mess in the south. I applaud rabbis who told our soldiers that to expel Jews from our land is immoral. But as a military man, Mr. Dayan believes that insubordination, even if it means doing evil, is always wrong. Thus as Daniel, #3 wrote: In the last election (Uzi Dayan) headed a party calling for a "second disengagement" from large parts of the West Bank. To me this is morally indefensible.
10. Absolutely agree
Michael Schwartz ,   New York   (09.19.07)
No other country on the face of the earth is expected to put up with daily rocket barrages. FORGET ABOUT WHAT THE MEDIA SAYS. The media is against Israel. Israel must take over the border region, stop smuggling, start targeted assasinations, cut-off the electricity and water, and do whatever it takes to stop the terror. Each rocket that lands in Israel from Gaza should be recipriocated 10 fold. Hear O Israel.......you are dealing with people that DO NOT WANT PEACE. Hamas and the other terrorists simply want the land of Israel. How can anyone believe they are partners in peace at this point. Israeli politicians...do you believe them? Land for peace is the biggest lie ever told. OK peace-loving neighbors.....here's the land. Where exactly is the peace? I forget.
11. WRONG!
YB   (09.19.07)
We have done all the thingS Mr. Dayen said we should do and it DID NOT WORK. We need to shut the lights and electric in Gaza and level ANY TOWN that Qassams are being fired from. If one town dosen't work we do a second until they stop or they will be expelled from Gaza. WE SHOULD NOT CARE WHAT THE WORLD HAS TO SAY.
12. to....nb 8
patrick ,   fr   (09.19.07)
well you are right there is a UN law which officially should be followed up by any civilised country to an other CIVILISED country but eh... these pallie are primitive even blowing their own flesh and blood for a cause. It would be ludicrous to expect these bounch of nuttes to comprehend what is the meaning of law, they who kill their own children!!!! we should bomb gaza and stop all main supplies and let the arabs take care of their people, instead of paying for them to live on to destroy erezt.
13. No military action needed
daniel   (09.20.07)
Why not just cut their power and water? It took Israel almost 40 years to leave that place and unless you want a bi-national state, dont get back in!
14. What would USA do?
ELiyahu   (09.20.07)
COndoleeza RIce is talking to Olmert, telling him to make massive "concessions" for "peace". Gee... what kind of concessions did america make to Afghanistan, Iraq, or any nation at all, for that matter?
15. Sir: I hope the government hears and heeds your sage advice.
RBY ,   Zichron yaakov   (09.20.07)
16. Who cares about Sderot? Nobody I know lives there!
Ehud Oldmerde ,   Yerushalyim   (09.20.07)
17. GAZA
JOEL GOODMAN ,   palm beach, florida   (09.20.07)
TAKE ALL THE STEPS MENTIONED, BUT IMMEDIATELY STOP ALL WATER, ELECTRIC AND ANY OTHER SERVICES. PROHIBIT ANY CROSSING INTO OR OUT OF GAZA BY ANYONE. SHOOT TO KILL ANY AND ALL VIOLATORS. INCLUDES WOMEN AND CHILDREN AND CATS AND DOGS.
