It is not entirely crazy to state that Western powers may be behind these attacks. The CIA has committed numerous terrorist attacks around the world to put blame on parties they disagree with. For example in 1953 the CIA committed terrorist acts and blamed them on Mossadegh. This was the CIA's attempt to gain popular support for installing a pro-American dictator. The same thing happened in Guatemala, Chile, Cuba (failed attempt), even in Europe (Operation Gladio) and who knows how many others. BTW these are all documented and you can read them on the CIA website in documents that have been declassified, so I'm not just making crap up here. Now, Syria may very well have done this, but I think we should wait for evidence instead of just pointing the finger! I mean the US does have a lot to gain from these attacks. First, it can paint Iran and Syria as aggressive meddlers in the ME. Second, it can increase support for pro-American forces within the government.

This isn't a Christian vs. Muslim conflict. It is a political conflict. In fact, a Muslim in this current pro-government political force (who is aligned with the member who was just assasinated today), was assasinated a little while back as well. Additionally, there are Maronite Christians aligned with the opposition, who was not alligned with this current Christian MP who was assasinated. So please, do not simplify this complex issue into a battle between Christians and Muslims, because it is not that.

Why would the US or Israel be involved in killing ANTI-Syrian politicians? Seems to me that if the candidates are against Syrian intervention in Lebanon, then it would be in Israel's interests NOT to kill them.

It's called a false flag opperation and has been done before. Now I'm not saying this is necessarily the truth, but I think it should be given some thought. If the CIA carries out this attack and blames it on Syria or Iran, then they hope to increase anti-Syrian and anti-Iranian sentiment around the world, giving more justification to attacking either Iran or Syria. Also, by killing a few politicians who agree with you you increase support for the movement you support. They would look at it as taking a couple hits to reach the ultimate goal of popular support for a pro-American government in Lebanon. This same tactic has been used before! Now what does Syria have to gain from this? It only makes them look bad around the world and increases support for anti-Syrian politicians in Lebanon. Additionally, it would only serve to add to political instability in Lebanon which could spill over to Syria and ultimately be very bad for the Syrian government. No one knows who committed these acts, so to immediately blame Syria seems a bit hasty. I'm not saying in any way that I think the Syrian government is a good government, far from that it is an oppressive dictatorship, but we must wait for the evidence and stop playing political games.
