The reference above to Hess should, of course, be to Hoess. Rudolph Hess was Hitler's deputy who flew to Britain in 1941.

Get your facts right, people! It was Rudolf Hoess who ran Auschwitz, not Rudolf Hess. Two diffrerent people. Rudolf Hess was Hitler's deputy who flew to the UK early in the war and was gone from the Nazi government thereafter. He had little to do with Auschwitz, if anything. Rudolf Hoess ran the place and was sentenced to death at the Nuremberg trials - executed April 16, 1947. Rudolf Hess was sentenced to life, and he lived inside Spandau Prison until 1987.

Placing people into gas chambers and then into the ovens was work for the Nazis. Most people leave work behind them when on holiday, just like these Nazis did. The Nazis knew as soon as their holiday was over, they get back to the gas chambers and ovens soon enough. Why spoil vacation by dragging along pictures from work? In most camps I believe the Nazis were the overseers and made the prisoners do the real work of putting the dead into ovens, etc. The Nazis did as little of the actual 'death work' as they could. But, they supervised all of it.
