1. NE body who thinks Ahmede jerk has the right
Obama ,   Washington DC   (09.23.07)
to speak in the US should visit this site http://noiri.blogspot.com/ not for faint hearted
2. Ahmadinejad in the Big Apple
Arielush ,   ramat ha golan   (09.23.07)
Someone should give him a poison apple while he is in New York. Or maybe a timely accident could be arranged or an act of G-d.
3. Ahmadinejad go back to IRAN
e m ,   picksville, usa   (09.23.07)
I strongly regect anybody's effort to invite this president of a terrorist country and supporter of terrorisem, sham on Columbia University and any orginization who support this guy !
4. Columbia University is equal to supporter of terrorisem!
Mohamad Tajkarimi ,   Maryland,usa   (09.23.07)
Ahmadinejat's trip to U.S is unacceptable specialy his speech at COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY "supporter of him"
5. Ahmadinejad Vs. Sharon
Marwan ,   Amman, Jordan   (09.23.07)
Ahmadi talked too much about how israel is expected to vanish soon, but he never actually committed a massacre where thousands of civilians were butchered, THEREFORE any fair logical person who would accept that someone like sharon can be invited to speak in a place like Columbia University, should tolerate a big mouth like Nejad!
6. Re #5
Dan ,   Australia   (09.23.07)
Sharon never advocated the Genocide of anyone, unlike Ahmedinejad.
7. Ahmadinejad's Iran
Ypip ,   Vancouver, BC   (09.23.07)
May be opportune time for President Kirchner to fly up from Argentina for a gander...
8. Marwan/ facts of terrorism
Petra ,   USA   (09.23.07)
Perhaps the word "terror' has escaped your knowledge? This small monkey has sponsored arms and supplies to Iraq and killed more Iraqis and Americans than anyone. Doesn't that bother you? Of course not, you don't give a rip about terror or facts just the same old bs propaganda you swallow like camel milk in the desert. Poor pitiful fool.
9. #1 Obama in Washington.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (09.23.07)
I went to the website you recommended & it was well worth reading some of the articles. But very scary. Political correctness will be the undoing of Western democracies.
10. Come on. Lee Bollinger sympathizes with this criminal.
Steve ,   US   (09.23.07)
University president, Lee Bollinger introducing the event with a series of "sharp challenges" would be akin to Nazi sympathizer and Jew baiter, Henry Ford issueing a series of sharp challenges to Adolf Hitler.
11. Parade signs of Death to America speak for themselves!
(09.23.07)
This is not a man interested in peace. he is intereted in "death to america and Israel." Nothing can be clearer then the signs of the recent parade in Tehran. The man is calling for death of Americans. He should not welcomed in any civilized venue!
12. In a democracy freedom of speech is a must.
Richard ,   New York, USA   (09.23.07)
Unfortunately, the Talmud is not about democracy, and Jews don't fully understand this concept. Ahmadinejad could never speak in Israel, but he can speak in America. So much for Israeli democracy. And for Dani Klein to refer to Ahmadinejad as a "Hitler," is an exaggeration design to incite hatred and violence.
13. Nothing Like Hitler
Trueone ,   NY   (09.23.07)
for Dani Klein to refer to Ahmadinejad as a "Hitler," is an exaggeration design to incite hatred and violence. You may Get your War and Kill Millions To Bring Them A Fake Version Of Freedom There is no Government with a True Democarcy
14. Hey Terry, speaking of political correctness.....
Steve ,   US   (09.23.07)
You wrote: "Political correctness will be the undoing of Western democracies." Here in the U.S., we have it at the highest levels. Only days after the September 11, 2001 atrocities on American soil --- after the White House had the FBI fly out of our country some 140 members of the bin Laden family and Saudi Royal Family at a time when FAA prohibited domestic flights -- Mr. Bush said the following before a joint session of Congress. He continues to believe it: "The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been rejected by Muslim scholars and the vast majority of Muslim clerics; a fringe movement that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam...... The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself. The enemy of America is not our many Muslim friends; it is not our many Arab friends. Our enemy is a radical network of terrorists." This is the same U.S. president who told Wahhabi activists in a Washinton mosque --- days after the Saudi-sponsored atrocities --- "Islam is peace." http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=26018&only&rss The same president who is furiously working to establish a 23 Islamic terrorist state in the mountains of Israel overlooking her coastal plain, in Gaza and in east Jerusalem. He is doing this as an important component in his war against "terrorism."
15. Richard #12: I might concede your poing IF....
Steve ,   US   (09.23.07)
If Ahmadinejad had been invited to a more or less 'neutral' forum, let's say perhaps the National Press Club or some other forum and not a prestigious University.... If (and this is the critical point) Ahmadinejad were compelled to debate more or less his equal, let's say the equivalent of the late Rabbi Meir Kahane -- I am not sure who that would be today; maybe radio talk show host Michael Savage? --- perhaps then I would concede your point.. But you know full well this little coward from Iran would NEVER debate someone of stature and erudition like the late Rabbi Kahane because he would be shown for what he is. A little ignorant coward. Having this Columbia University president Bollinger introduce the event by "challenging President Ahmadinejad on a number of his controversial statements" is a joke. You know it Richard and I know it.
16. #12 Trust me, the monkey has incited his OWN hatred and
violence. Hell is to ,   good 4 this animal!   (09.23.07)
17. Everbody who takes part in this protest should wear the US
falg pin & the ,   Star of David!!   (09.23.07)
18. Let the monkey see the US, & Star of David pins & seethe in
his hatred. Turn the ,   tables on this idiot   (09.23.07)
19. Let Freedom ring
DeP ,   Chicago, IL, USA   (09.23.07)
It is wonderful to know that some of our institution of higher learning are willing to expose their students to views many find wrong. It has been said that in a truly free society its members must be willing to die for the right of each to say that which the society finds most objectionable. When you refuse to hear the worst of mankind you also refuse to hear the best!
20. AN OPORTUNITY NOT TO BE MISSED
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (09.23.07)
PROTESTS JUST LET OFF STEAM.IT IS JUDICIAL ACTION THAT IS REQUIRED.I AM SURE THEAMERICAN JUSTICE SYSTEM COULD PRODUCE A PROSECUTABLE OFFENCE THAT WOULD RETAIN HIM ON U.S. SOIL UNTIL IT WAS DETERMINED WHETHER OR NOT IT BREACHED HIS RIGHTS OF DIPLOMATIC I MMUNITY.IF HE WAS PUT INTO DETENTION INADVERTENTLY, FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS ONLY A GROVELLING SORRY IS NECESSARY .PERHAPS A PAT ON THE BACK FROM PRESIDENT BUSH MIGHT BE CONSIDERED TOGETHER WITH AN HONOUR GUARD OF MARINES ESCORTING TO A RED CARPET LEADING TO THE NEXT FLIGHT OUT.PERHAPS THIS WOULD GO SOME WAY TO SMOOTHING OUT RUFFLED FEATHERS.(THINK HOW MUCH SAFER THE WORLD WOULD BE IF HE WAS HELD IN NCOMUNICANDO)
21. In fact noone is obligated...
Micha   (09.23.07)
to host this despicable person. Freedom of speech sure. But Columbia doesn't need to host him. Do they host the grandwizards of the KKK? Well, I guess then that would be blocking their freedom of speech. Why not host some people who actually speak of peace and reconciliation? The fact is if you look at the parade earlier this week, this "president" of Iran is espousing death to US and Israel. There's no problem having equal access but there's no obligation to host this mealy-mouthed murderer. Stop trying to equate everything with murder and mayhem. It's disingenuous. Just because some here hate the Jews doesn't mean that what you espouse is correct. Your entitled to your opinion. it just might be a misdirected one.
22. 12 Richard NYC
Obama ,   Washington DC   (09.23.07)
Looks like you have forgotten 9/11too soon, or maybe you have not been born yet. Sometimes, freedom of speech has a price and this one is too high to pay. We need to get this monkey off our back. Btw, thanks bro. Terry from Israel
23. Leftist academia gaining influence
Disgusted American   (09.23.07)
As an observant American, I have been witness over the years to the increasing "political correctness" and the increasingly vitriolic anti-U.S. sentiment coming from the liberal camp. This latest hypocrisy and willful ignorance of Columbia University is but a small taste of the opinions of a vast and growing segment of the U.S. populace. The trend is growing at an increasing pace, as well as my own disgust with the anti-Israeli and pro-muslim-at-all-costs attitude in the U.S. now. My only question is "Does Israel accept non-Jewish, pro-Israeli immigrants?" I have an excellent technical resume, I am a non-Christian with middle of the road political views (Libertarian), and a reasonable amount of financial resources. Happy to leave this quagmire...
24. Ahmadinejad at Columbia
cal ,   toronto Canada   (09.23.07)
25. dictator
Marta Kaye ,   wilmington, de.usa   (09.23.07)
The Iranian leader was titled a modern day hitler, but i have heard the same reference to bush.
26. Ahmadinejad at Columbia
cav ,   toronto canada   (09.23.07)
Too bad that some people seem to think that no hear, no see is a legitimate way to deal with something that is evil. To be successful in dealing with a problem, that of removing Iran as a power in the M-East the more known about the country the better. What better way of gaining knowledge than picking the brain of one of its leading mouthpieces? Banning speech no matter how disgusting is no way to protect freedom. It is also disgusting that certain groups think they have the right and authority to impose such a ban. Isn't that one of the practices that Hitler used to gain power?
27. Freedom of speech
Freedom of speech ,   global citizen   (09.23.07)
Your articel and your readers' comments are full of incitement, slander, racist slurs and inappropriate language . Please read your own terms of use before letting comments posted! If we have nothing to be afraid of then why not let the man talk!
28. Israel fears Iran
John ,   London   (09.23.07)
Hitler? What kind of comparison is this? Has Iran gassed Jews? Has it invaded any nation? This is obviously Israel propaganda. Propaganda which has so far got Israel no where. It is still a state lives in fear. No security and no peace. By trying to deny the Iranian President to give a speech in US, it is clear that Israel is trying to hide something. The more Israel suppresses free speech the more people in west want to listen to what her enemies have to say. Students of Columbia University want to hear why Israel is so affraid of words of one man.
29. #12 Steve in the US.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (09.23.07)
I can sort of understand Bush - America has global interests, including all the Muslim countries, especially the Saudis who not only have oil but many, many dollars that could cause the US a problem in the financial markets. So, what do you want him to say, that Islam is a totalitarian political ideology & the enemy of the West? No matter what he believes personally, this would be hard to say publically. Then again, Bush is no intellectual - he might think Islam is like Christianity, an assumption many in the West believe. What is beyond belief is the delusional thinking among the political elite in Israel who should really know better. But, no matter, this problem of political correctness has serious implications & I fear many people will die as a consequence. This is what happened in the 1920's & '30's with the rise of fascism as well as communism. There are just some people who are willing to appease anyone regardless of the consequences.
30. This is a sad day for free speech
Fereydoun ,   Atlanta   (09.23.07)
No matter how abhorable he is he still should be listened. He is definately anti Israel, but you will not find a single translation that supports what the media says he said. "Strange it is, that men should admit the validity of the arguments for free discussion, but object to their being "pushed to an extreme;" not seeing that unless the reasons are good for an extreme case, they are not good for any case...John Stuart Mill "
