31. They did invite Nazis back in the 1930s
Steve ,   Jacksonville, Texas   (09.23.07)
They did practically invite Hitler to speak http://hnn.us/roundup/entries/42946.html America's University system needs a total overhaul
32. Terry, yes many will die in Israel first, then in U.S.
Steve ,   US   (09.23.07)
Terry, better to say nothing than teach your nation lies about the enemy. Didn't Sun Tzu teach that to know your enemy and to know yourself is fundamental to success in war. Bush either does not know our enemy of he does not want to know our enemy of he is deceiving us. Like Neville Chamberlain, he apparently does not know our enemy or know himself. The Saudis should be made to understand who is the boss between the two nations. Saudi royal family rely on American protection. Before an invasion, the Saudis are defenseless. If Saudis want to try a little petroleum hard-ball, personally I am willing to sacrifice were Bush to do the right thing militarily, if necessary. I'm not saying the man needs to go out and tell the American people that Islam is a totalitarian political ideology or a conquering, imperial religious tradition -- or maybe that would be refreshing to hear if not necessary to hear! -- but why lie to the people Terry? Bush's obsession of establishing a Palestinian terror state in Israel is beyond comprehension. Talk about something that could cause the US a problem in the financial markets. Should Bush be successful and leave Israel at the mercy of the Muslim jihadists both internally and externally, the entire Middle East could blow apart. Is what Bush wants? To destabilize the entire region? Because if he doesn't want to destabilize the entire region and consequently the entire world and her markets, he is a terribly ignorant man.
33. #18. Your fascination with "monkeys"...
Persian CAT   (09.23.07)
is obvious. Please stop talking about your family members. If you don't like Ahmadinejad, just say so. Why bringing your ancestors into this.
34. #26 ..if someone sticks
Vorax   (09.23.07)
"Kill this sh*t" label on your door, how would you consider it - - as an exercise in freedom of speech? - as invitation to debate? - as an expression of lawful crticism? That might be OK for your decency, but there still exists another side, this is not the end of the story. In the East, if your decency is lost, your life is worth nothing, you will be treated as dirt, as a part of a landscape. And that is exactly what this monkey tries to achieve.
35. #28 So free speech extends to denying holocaust?
andy ,   orlando,u.s   (09.23.07)
The denial of the Holocaust and open threats to destroy Israel go beyond free speech. There is a fine line between free speech and inciting hatred and anti-semitism.The Iranian President has been condemned universally and likened to Hitler, but you see this as "Israeli propaganda"? Hitler made threats in 1938 to exterminate the Jewish people in a final solution, which he implemented. This Iranian bastard is threatening the same. Why give this mark2 Hitler a platform? Everybody knows he is a threat to the West, trying to acquire nukes, terrorism etc.I'm sure the Columbia students having some intelligence already know this!!!
36. #12 Where is democracy in the Arab world & Iran?
andy ,   orlando.U.S   (09.23.07)
There is no democracy in Iran.Could a Jewish leader speak against the Iranian leader in Tehran? Ahmadinejad loves free speech so he can vent his hatred of the West.As for "Jews dont fully understand this concept" of democracy,I find this offensive.Israel is the only country in the middle east where EVERY citizen has the right to vote (includind Arabs) and elect government.Keep your double standards to yourself!!!
37. columbia and terrorism
elliot ,   point roberts,usa   (09.23.07)
did your readers know that the ROTC[US military} is barred frem recruiting at Columbia?THE LEFT IS CALLING IT 'FREE' SPEECH,BUT LIKE MOST POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IT IS FREE HATE SPEECH! Many Jews support this university thru 'major' gifts-let us urge them to stop doing so NOW!
38. #28. There's a sea change...
Persian CAT   (09.23.07)
in the American people's attitude about Israel and the Likudnik cells in the US. Israel supporters no longer can stifle debate and suppress free speech simply because they don't like someone. Supporters of Israel have caused so much damage to the US interests and the recent events have revealed most of it. Abramoff, and Scooter affairs are just the tip of the iceberg. But the message is loud and clear. The American people have awaken and they smell a rat. I respect the right of Jewish groups to protest, but I oppose their attempts to silence the voices they don't want to be heard. That's NOT happening anyway.
39. Modern hitler!
Paul ,   london   (09.23.07)
I think Hitler has done alot worse then this guy, mainly killing MILLIONS of jews, don't use trash politics if you want to get your point across.
40. PS: Terry
Steve ,   US   (09.23.07)
Terry, what is the difference between Iranian president, Ahmadinejad and Mahmoud Abbas, aka Abu Mazzen. Both are Holocaust deniers and Nazi sympathizers; both are unregenerate terrorist murderers. But the one according to Mr. Bush does not deserve a White House reception, while the other is declared a "man dedicated to peace." Truth be known, Mr. Bush would also like the Jewish state wiped off the map. It's simply that Iran is more of a threat to the US at present than the PA.
41. #1 Obama: That is a heartbreaking website you suggested...
Rivkah   (09.23.07)
I would suggest people everywhere PRAY for Mr. Ahmadinejad because the power behind the scenes in Iran is THE PRINCE OF PERSIA, a high ranking fallen angel in service to the PRINCE OF THE POWER OF THE AIR (Satan, the devil). The devil and his fallen angels can appear as angels of light and can deceive most people. For Mr. Ahmadinejad to resist the evil influences of THE PRINCE OF PERSIA, he needs all the prayer support he can get. Prayers can deliver him, but that might cost him his physical life unless the Lord of Abraham spares him. Remember the prayers of the Jews in Persia long ago strengthened Esther to influence the King to protect the Jews.
42. A Modern Hitler Honored
Russ Thayer ,   Fredericksburg USA   (09.23.07)
Confusing this man with Hitler is hysterically absurd. The United States is not a vassel state to Israel, and one tires of the shrill yelping of proxy Holocaust survivors, i.e., spoiled middle and upper middle class Jews who consider themselves victims because other Jews were exterminated in death camps, now over fifty years ago. The most cosmopolitan folks in the world should be smarter than this.
43. #32 Steve in the US.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (09.23.07)
That was a thoughtful reply & I assure you I was not trying to justify Bush's policies. I don't believe in appeasement or political correctness not out of principle, but because they don't work with the kind of enemy we're facing. But you'll have to admit that it is a quite daunting challenge to politicians, including Bush, to come to terms with a Muslim world of 1.5 billion generally hostile inhabitants who also dominate the oil reserves of the world as well as their sort-of allies in China & Russia. Policy makers, including our own, do not like to rock the boat. While I believe that the Muslim world, particularly the Arab countries, are in a process of melt-down, the prospect is most disconcerting to stability-minded politicians. It would indeed be refreshing to hear Bush or any other world leader tell the truth but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to do so. I was just watching Late Edition on CNN & was appalled by the opinions offered on Ahmadinejad's speaking at Columbia. And who were the guests with their "expert" opinion? Henry Kissinger & Zbigniew Brezinski (Jimmy Carter's anti-Semite-in-waiting). Freedom of speech! Why not let Pot Pol come on to discuss Cambodian affairs or a few Hutus to give a speech on inter-ethnic relations in Rwanda? In any case, we don't know as yet if America (the Bush administration) will stop Iran militarily. In a short time, we will know the answer.
44. #40 Steve in the US.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (09.23.07)
I don't really believe Bush wants Israel wiped off the map. I totally disagree with his policies, especially the idea of creating a Palestinian terror state but that is a far cry from believing he wants Israel destroyed. He is reacting to pressure from the State Dept. (never pro-Israel), pressure from the Europeans, pressure from the Arabs, failed policy in Iraq, & a great deal of leftist criticism among Democrats. But the bottom line is that it is our gov't. that has not opposed this policy. Had our gov't objected strongly, this policy would be dead in the water. It is OUR dysfunctional political system which allows an idiot like Olmert & his cronies to stay in office.
45. #43: Terry, Bush is a huge disappointment
Steve ,   US   (09.23.07)
No, I'm sorry, I will not admit that it is quite a daunting challenge to come to terms with a Muslim world of 1.5 million for this great self-professed Christian president who leads probably the greatest military and economic power on the earth; at least at this brief moment in the long history of the world. Given Bush's incredible failures, I do not expect the US to maintain this great wealth and power in the decades to come. Tiny Israel is surrounded by how many hundreds of millions of Muslim Arabs --- defeated them in some four or five wars of Muslim Arab aggression --- why is Bush such a little worm? A wimp? If I had an audience with Mr. Bush, I would tell him that I am a thirty six year conservative Republican. Many voted for this self-professed Christian, this man of deep faith and prayer, because he said he would always stand by Israel and not impose Washington's time tables for peace on the Jewish state; even if Israel enemie cannot bring themselves to make peace with Israel, Bush pledged, unlike Clinton, he would not pressure Israel. He swore he would move America's ambassador to Israel's capital immediately upon taking office January 2001. It was all a lie. I don't see a man of faith in the White House. I don't see a man period in Mr. Bush but a little mouse from Texas. I see a cowardly Neville Chamberlain in the White House trying to lead a great nation. Terry, whether or not Mr. Bush intends it, his policies are designed to destroy the Jewish state. No question about it, he is seeking our destruction whether intentional or not. As Jews, we know ignorance of the law or innocently doing evil is not an excuse or a defense. Besides, Bush cannot be ignorant of the murderous intentions of our enemies. If I know and you know their murderous intentions and ways are we to think Bush is ignorant? Did he miss all the rockets, shooting and suicide bombings? He does not know that the PLO is dedicated to Israel's "phased" destruction? Is he ignorant of the fact that Abbas calls for the murder of Jews? His embrace of arch-terrorist, Nazi sympathizer and Holocaust denier, Mahmoud Abbas is unforgivable. What happened to Bush's black and white, "Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists." (?)
46. Persian CAT (33) quotes the Koran
sk ,   USA   (09.23.07)
You know, about Jews being descended from monkeys and pigs. Rarely does a talkback so perfectly illustrate someone's beliefs.
47. Re #6
Matt ,   Sacramento, CA   (09.23.07)
Dan, Not sure how taking about a genocide is worse than actually committing, and admitting to, a genocide. Not to support Ahmedinejad, but I'm sure the saying is similar is Australia, "actions speak louder than words".
48. Not allowed on campus
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (09.23.07)
I just read that Columbia is not allowing outside Jewish groups to demonstrate on campus.
49. Re ..Ahmadinejad in the Big Apple
MS ,   SFO, USA   (09.23.07)
Thanks for revealing your true colors!!!!!!
50. What part of "Death to Israel/America" don't they understand
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (09.23.07)
It was only last week that Iran was parading its newest missiles marked "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" . Why is it so difficult for some to understand Iran's intent? Ahmedinejad has openly spoken of the coming of the 12th (Hidden) Imam, whose coming will be triggered by a regional conflict. Others around him have accepted that millions of his countrymen might be killed in such a confrontation, but they will be deemed "martyrs" in the struggle to destroy Israel. So while he has *yet* not killed millions, his designs are clear. As to the rabid ravings of "free speech" advocates, how many critics of radical Islam and the dangers they pose to the West (e.g. Walid Shoebat) have been welcomed to speak at Columbia? Hypocrites!
51. Where is Democracy or Freedom of Speech?
Paul ,   Liberia   (09.23.07)
I don't understand why the Columbia University's invitation to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a problem. Why it is good for President George Bush to visit Iraq where he (Bush) has caused one the major Human Rights abuses of our time and no body says anything. I thought Democracy or Freedom of Speech has been the personal property of the US, and why are they NOT practicing it. It is awful to know that people say one thing and live another...
52. #28 This is why - if you have the guts

53. Give Him What he Truly Wants
Mr N.P Correctness ,   UK   (09.23.07)
Didnt' he say in the past that he wanted to die a martyr? Then why not let him have it.!
54. #28, the schmuck from London
Phil ,   US   (09.24.07)
You are an incredibly ignorant and hateful "person". Hitler hadn't gassed any Jews in 1933 either but he said what he would do in Mein Kampf and racists like you were salivating at the prospect of dead Jews and idiots in denial were poo-pooing criticism of the nazi. Secon, most of the protests are coming from decent persons--political leaders and religious leaders who know what this modern Hitler stands for.
55. Columbia University
Marilyn ,   USA   (09.24.07)
Judging at how many people are upset, they have a perfect right to cancel. They can specify security concerns and offer to debate him in Iran and videotape it or something.
56. Has anybody
Doron   (09.24.07)
read ahmadinajad's 'blog'-- look at it carefully. there is a autobiographical in there where he talks about himself...it is frighteningly similar to the first chapter of mein kampf -- and i'm not saying this to be sensationalist or to make a point, i'm being dead serious. read it and you will see. it is frightening.
57. #30
(09.24.07)
you know only too well he has said verbally what he has been accused of saying. but, let's say he didn't. let's see what his actions, not speeches are to the iranian people. the past week, there was an ehibit in tehran. ahmadinejad laid israeli and american flags in the enrty so that the public who came to see the exhibit steped on the israeli and american flags on their way in. what decent country or leader will do such a thing? in the past week iran held a military parade to commemorate the iran iraq war. huge missiles were driven on tracks in front of a cheering public. each missile had writing on it. some said "death to america". some said "death to israel" while others said "wipe israel off the map" how would you explain that? if he didn't say it, why did i see these words on the missiles during the parade. it is for public consumption and was viewed on youtube. are you also denying this?
58. as an american university student
(09.24.07)
in light of the shameful behavior of columbia university, i would like to propose that columbia alumnis refrain from supporting this university financially through donations. big money comes through alumni donations and columbia needs to be punished for the tragedy of its decision regarding giving a forum for an animal like ahmadinejad. during 1933, columbia invited hitler...yes, hitler! to speak at the university under, again, the freedom of speech amendment. who will be next on the agenda? bin ladden? be serious, dr. bollinger...the fact that your panel of participants will make it difficult for ahmadinejad and "cross examine" him on controversial issues of holocaust denial, terrorism sponsor and advertising to wipe israel of the map, is not enough of an excuse to give such a beast a forum under any circumstances. freedom of speech comes with a certain responsibility and reason. casn we actually say then that osama bin laden should come and have a panel at columbia because we are so enlightened that freedom of speech can be given to anyone? dr. bollinger, do you honestly think that any arab country and particularly iran will grant you full permission to bring american views into tehran university when what they are doing in that university now is firing anti government professors and do not practice one inch of freedom of speech. they either arrest fre speakers or they are heading them to evian prison for torture and repression of speech. is this the kind of person you want to honr at your leading academic institution. SHAME ON YOU DR. BOLLINGER. YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT AN HONORABLE MEMBER OF OUR SOCIETY AT ALL. and i believe that you will suffer great financial consequences becaue of your immoral choice. i for one will never contribute to this former school of mine. i was thinking of doing my post graduate work there after graduating, but am applying somewhere else where i find the president of the chosen university honorable and "sane"! you do not deserve my alumni support and i am going to make sure and work very very hard that you do not get it from others. that is a promise, dr. bollinger.
59. #38 PERSIAN CAT
(09.24.07)
notice that most major universities did not envite this monkey nut job to speak! BECAUSE THEY CONSIDER THIS MONKET BELOW THE INTELLECTUAL INTEGRITY OF THE SCHOOL. as to free speech. we want iran to accept in its tehran university all jewish and israeli scholars that can debate about the holocaust and the poolitical message in israel. can this be arranged, do you think.....considering iran has such fanbtastic freedom of speech opportunities. not! or, would all these jewish israeli dignitaries find themselves in evian jail like the other americans of persian origin that were incarcerated for months as "spies" without trial and any reasonable excuse not to leave iran when they wanted to. these were american intellectuals that didn't even come to speak. why were they arrested and detained on the basis that they were "a danger to the muslim regime and spies"? give me a break! freedom of speech my ass. why would iran detain america citizens on their way to visit family or whatever if they have freedom of speech what were they afraid of, ha?
60. #48 chaya
(09.24.07)
chaya, this is not only a jewish issue. most arabs and iranians think it is a jewish issue. it is not because amongst other absurd speeches ahmadinajad calls for the death of the usa. actually, he put usa flags and israeli flags on the floor at the entrance to a bif exhibit in tehran so that visitors could step on them. saw it in a video clip. also, during the recent military parade to celebrate the iran/iraq war, ahmadinejad showed long missiles with writings on them; "death to america" "death to israel" "wipe israel off the map" google the youtube to see these pictures. people say he didn't say these things. well, my eyes saw exactly that he did!
