1. children divide cities into naighborhoods
zionist forever   (09.24.07)
You cant take a city like Jerusalem and divide it into naighborhoods that will belong to other countries. You cant say that all the houses on this street belong to Israel, they are patroled by Israeli police and the citizens must abide by Israeli law but if your living round the corner then your officialy in a palestian state with their polce and laws. You either divide a city straight down the middle so you have physical boundries of both your countries or you dont give up anything. Trying to divide the thing into naighborhoods is the kind of ideas school children have not politicians dealing with something as important as deciding the future of Jeruslam. The Israeli politicians should also remeber that the final say is made byt the Israeli people through referendum not politicians behind closed doors. Jerusalem is also not a political issue that the politicians should be talking about publicly if they want to doide the city like school children then put forward your views but keep it in the knesset not the mdeia for the other side to read all about and find weaknesses in all your negotiationg positions.
2. When is the next Israeli ellection for goodness sake!
Ariel ,   London   (09.24.07)
Why have these crop of Israeli politicians lost all moral courage and fibre? Aren't there any politically sacrosanct no go areas any more? Talk of dividing Jerusalem by Israeli politicians is setting a very dangerous precedent. By merely suggesting it, would give it the political status of an already agreed upon concession by the rest of the world, never mind the Palestinians!
3. ramon and kadima revolt
marv ,   barrie   (09.24.07)
Yoiu had better do something fast as Ramon and Olmert want to give all post 67 away to arabs as well as accept responsibility for arab refugees. israel would be better to deal with hamas than PLO who has no self-control. Israel must hold onto to some lands for all the blood she has shed.
4. PULL OUT FROM THE KNESSET causing it to fall
Joseph P. ,   Jerusalem   (09.24.07)
and new elections will be called for immediately. Wouldn't this make more sense than fighting with fools?
5. Not sure how Mister 3 percent of public approval
freedom ,   canada   (09.24.07)
can actually decide upon what to do with Jerusalem. Jerusalem should be under Jewish control in its entirety. The Palestinians will not cede control of the city of Bethlehem. So move on to what is best for all that is involved. A united Jerusalem city under Israeli control.
6. Don't you see??
Fay ,   US   (09.24.07)
Don't you see why they are doing this... every time there is an investigation probe into Olmert's personal crimes he's trying to gain points by talking peace with Abbas - to the point of giving away land - just to stay in power... these are the lowest class of people... Didn't Sharon do the same when he was probed about his crimes etc.. what did he do? he gave away Gaza... I don't understand why the Israeli people have such a short memory.. G-D Bless Israel!!
7. This is the legacy bequeathed us by Beilin and Peres
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (09.24.07)
From 1967 to 1993 it was established Israeli policy that Jerusalem was, and would remain, the undivided capitol of Israel. But that all changed in 1993 when Beilin and Peres declared Jerusalem to be an issue that would be dealt with later, along with borders, refugees, etc. Henceforth, Jerusalem would be "in play", subject to negotiation. Like Dayan handing control of the Temple Mount to the Wakf, those two unilaterally undermined Israel's hold on Jerusalem. Only Israel has demonstrated the willingness to guarantee freedom of access to all faiths. Such will not be possible under a divided Jerusalem. Can one imagine armed PA forces checking your papers as you enter the old city to visit the Jewish quarter or Western Wall? This is nuts. Abba Eban used to say that Israel is the only country that wins a war then sues for peace. Or, I would add, signs terms of surrender.
8. Look at who is proposing this?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (09.24.07)
Too bad he did not get his ass thrown in prison after his trial!
9. Preservation of Zion
Preservation of Zion ,   USA   (09.24.07)
I am in shock that giving away half of Jerusalem even entered anyone's mind!! How could Hiam Ramon consider this approach a job well done? Zion is not his to give away, and it isn't Olmert's to give away. This is disgusting! The idea of land for peace doesn't work. Maybe they should start with a reverse on the logic. Peace for land. . .give me peace now and we can discuss land later, but not Jerusalem and not a unilateral withdrawal. What are they thinking? When are elections already? This government is dangerous to the survival of Israel. You can't just give it away to look good in the press.
10. Kadima is for dividing Israel; why not Jerusalem?
Steve ,   USA   (09.24.07)
Suicidal Kadima wants to help Bush establish a Palestinian terror state in the mountains of Israel in the so-called West Bank, strategically overlooking Israel's coastal plain. Why not divide Jerusalem and make it easier for the Arabs to massacre the Jews? This is what Mr. Olmert wants, isn't it? The mass-killing of Jews? Why not give them east Jerusalem so they will be right at our thoats.
11. At least someone is doing something
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (09.25.07)
The Kadima MK's need to understand that they cannot allow Israel to be sold off as if it is real estate. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
12. very short surface article
maha ,   jerusalem   (09.25.07)
but looks like as if it is a fact or it is a stable ... without any analysis ,, i think it is not more than confusion .. and when itis not more than confusion it is only evil hope not god will it is a holy land to me a lovly one a willing city whatever they say or not say
13. #7: I could not agree more.
Ariel ,   London   (09.25.07)
I am in total agreement. I just can not understand this madness. Would O' God that there were a cure for this self inflicted stupidity. Can you imagine what the reaction would be if Israel tried to introduce Mecca as a subject for final status talks? Why under God's heaven do these people even dare to dream of thinking the thought of dividing Jerusalem?
14. #9 Maybe we should borrow from the Palis
Ariel ,   London   (09.25.07)
I agree with you a thousand times. Maybe we should borrow something from the Palestinians and have a day of rage.
