1. what a hypocrite
David Cohen ,   Tel Aviv   (09.25.07)
Is Peres' darling Abbas less of a holocaust denier than Ahmadinejad? No, he is even more. Did Peres' best friend Yasser Arafat murder less Israelis and advocate Israel's destruction less than Ahmadinejad? No, Arafat was worse. Where does Peres get the gall to condemn Columbia and Ahmadinejad? Maybe if they donated some more money to "Peres peace center" he would change his tune.
2. Skunk Peres hosted Arafat,Abbas
Marcel ,   Florida   (09.25.07)
The hypocrites and frauds say what the sheeple want to hear. Do the sheep buy moral judgments given by amoral depraved men like Peres ? Yesterday, President Bush said that Columbia inviting Amadinejad to speak showed America's greatness. i have to agree with this wolf Bush. he is right. America has forbidden the display of the ten commandments at Federal Courthouses ,children are forbidden only one book to read in school ,the Bible. Crime is soaring out of control and sexual perverts rape and kill our children after serving little time in prison. Our Entertainment industry floods the earth with perversity and evil . Yes Mr. Bush we are Great Babylon headed for destruction. The shock is that Israel follows our example and ignores their God.
3. HORRORS! I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH PERES ON THIS!
stude ham   (09.25.07)
Freedom of speech, regardless of how broadly stretched can never be allowed for the expression of racist and hate mongering bigotries... which about all that i'm a dinner jacket can ever do. oh... and of course there are no homosexuals in iran. Columbia U is to be condemned for ever having allowed this cruelly murderous dictator to darken their once noble institution. SIEG HEIL im a dinner jacket!
4. And Israel gives a platform to .........
Jay ,   israel   (09.25.07)
And Israel gives a platform to their "partner" Abu Mazen who is no less a holocaust denier, having received a PHD on the subject from a Russian University. We gave a platform to Arafat, no less a despot, we dealt with Dahlan who was instrumental in masterminiding murderous terrorist attacks, resulting in the maiming of innocent children. And last but not least , we talk of freeing Barghouti, serving several life sentences. It's Shimon Peres himself who started the ball rolling by legitimizing dealing with those who vowed to destroy us.. He should keep quiet and reevaluate what he's done before blaming others for following in his footsteps.
5. #1, very good points!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (09.25.07)
6. Disrespecting Iran Leader
Abby de Roche ,   Ishpeming USA   (09.25.07)
I do not understand why your publication seems to think that it's okay to slander a major leader. Did your editor even watch his speech (including the inflammatory attitude of the Columbia University president?) Whatever happened to free speech in this once great nation?
7. Peres slams Columbia
Mark Banks ,   London, UK   (09.25.07)
Whever President Peres! Thats what other people call freedom of speech, why wheren't you there to give your side of the story? Maybe you should send the Israeli Air force and attack Columbia University and shoot the hell out of those children as well, and grab the land it's built on while you are at it. :-)
8. Regine change in Iran
Andy Roberts ,   Liverpool, UK   (09.25.07)
No homosexuals in Iran? There we have enough reason to attack. Damascus where are your homos? :-)
9. Could Ynet hire some TBers for news analysis?
sk ,   USA   (09.25.07)
For most online news sites, the TBs are dreck, even when they agree with my own positions. But on Jewish news sites, the TBs tend to be more important than the articles being commented upon. For example, journos should always provide context. The TBs provide it here; the reporter does not.
10. Peres Should mind his own
Mog ,   USA   (09.25.07)
Israel and Peres should butt out of American affairs. Bush didnt seem to mind the visit so does why Peres? Peres and Israel should learn their place, be happy with the hand outs your given. This was very disrespectful considering how much America does for Israel.
11. #2 ha, ha, ha, ha, you're glass is ALWAYS 1/2 empty, never
full. Full of nasty ,   water too.   (09.25.07)
12. Peres is LIke Chamberlain
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (09.25.07)
Peres is LIke Chamberlain Ironic he should bring up that comparison. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
13. #6...are you one of those people...
DR ,   Florida, USA   (09.25.07)
who would have invited Hitler to speak as well??? You need ot understand that freedom of speech pertains to the citizens of the US not to its enemies. He is lucky we didn't kill him on sight!!!
14. Maybe Ariel was wrong !!!
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (09.25.07)
Was Ariel wrong or have times change. Remember the famous quote Sharon to Peres. "don't worry about American pressure, we the Jewish people control America." In the olden days Ariel would have "closed down" the university. Nowaday Peres can only complain about things.
15. Rigid hypocrites
Mother Fletcher ,   Gladwynne PA USA   (09.25.07)
There are some supporters of inviting the Iranian monster who are basically decent and caring. But they, along with the communists and assorted leftist nut jobs are commited idealogues. They will not listen to reason or consider each case individually before granting a monster the platform to speak. In the case of extremists, mainly on the left, free speech is a device that they use to get what they want. They forget free speech whenever a conservative or someone who disagrees with them is given a platform to speak. The decent ones allow the leftist fascists to shout down, physically attack, and destroy newspapers to prevent the other side from getting their message across. In essence, they look the other way as pathetic storm-troopers of the left throw tantrums. Those basically decent people who supported Colummbia's decision to have a platform are hypocrites. They would never support a white racist speaking in favor of segregation or have a hateful rightist attack homosexuals as immoral or the cause of AIDS. Yet, they support the right of a university to host a genocidal maniac. Is it because they know that Jews don't riot?
16. Mahmoud's "Speech"
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.25.07)
Although I objected to his being given a platform for his propaganda by Columbia U, in hindsight it's the best thing that could have happened. He's proven to the whole country what an idiot he really is. Had the papers only written about it, it would have been discounted as politics of some sort. As it is, there's nothing like "Mahmoud in his own words." Once again, free speech triumphed.
17. Free speech for one side
(09.25.07)
In case you might fall for Columbia U Pres. Bollenger's free speach argument, don't forget this: http://www.nysun.com/article/41020 They only provide a free speech platform to people they agree with (and isn't that a depressing commentary). Although Israel's leaders talk to lots of questionable people in the neighborhood, I haven't heard of them blocking the speech of people they don't agree with, unlike the U.S. left.
18. #11
Marcel ,   Florida   (09.25.07)
Did you miss this one ? It's a full glass. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3453239,00.html
19. Peres slams Columbia
duddy ,   London, CANADA   (09.25.07)
Peres is dead wrong and Columbia is right. One of the nce things about free speech is that liars and demagogues like Ahmedinejad are exposed in public for what they are. I don't think his charm offensive fooled anybody.
20. The World's Biggest Liar...
(09.25.07)
I didn't know Columbia invited President Bush to give a speech!
21. This is ridiculous
JZ ,   USA   (09.25.07)
How many people has President Bush killed with his stupid wars? Or Ariel Sharon? Now you're telling me that Ahmadinijad, who was elected President 2 years ago and has very little actual power in Iran is all of a sudden the bloodiest and most dangerous leader in the world? Give me a break! How many wars has Iran started in the past 28 years of its existence as a Islamic State? Now how about the US? I guarentee you the US is so far in the lead Iran could never catch up!
22. AS THEY SAY............................................
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (09.25.07)
TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE !
23. ahmadinejad may be the world's biggest lying leader
jason white ,   afula,israel   (09.25.07)
but peres is the universe's biggest lying leader(unelected)!
24. Missing the point
K   (09.25.07)
Freedom of speech does indeed work both ways, and I must say, despite having my doubts, I now applaud Columbia University for having the balls to give this small, ludicrous man a stage on which to very publicly display his stupidity and see through mendacity to the world. Is it just me or did his appearance rather backfire in his face? He certainly made no new friends in the West...
25. Yonder persons sin!
Ariel ,   London   (09.25.07)
Its funny how the other persons sin can look more monstrous than our own. What is the terrible difference between Ahmadinejad and Arafat?
26. lol
Sexy Arabian Guy ,   Saudi Arabia   (09.26.07)
"After all, there is no one that doesn't know that Iran is building an atomic bomb and is a hotbed for global terror" That is funny, what about Israel? If you don ot have any, why you do not allow UN inspectors to visit? Iran is allowing UN to visit. Iran is terroris? Did they kill any kid in Lebanon? I guess your definition of TERRORISM is not clear. The university is free to call anyone to talk. Why are you afraid of that?
27. president Peres
gerhard ,   munich   (09.26.07)
is simply wrong in this case. He better should read Columbia's presidnet address before and than think and act - not the other way round.
28. Response to Ahmadinejad
Stacey ,   Hayward, CA USA   (09.26.07)
We honored our traditions nothing more...
29. Mog comment
A Goldin ,   Louisville, USA   (09.30.07)
If Ahmedinajad didnt threaten to exterminate Israel, Mog might have a point. But Peres certainly has the right to express his views on giving the tyrant a platform that will be distributed throughout the Arab and Moslem world and incite them against Israel (as he has done for Mog).
