A great Torah leader - he will be sorely missed, especially among religious zionists.

I had the privilege of visiting his apartment, containing only the simplest furniture, but extravagantly lined with sefarim, and was reminded of how a previous Kohen Gadol Hador, the Chafetz Chaim was said to have lived.
6. Great man He'll be missed...
Ben ,   sarasota usa   (09.28.07)
If only all politicians held his beliefs Israel would be better off
7. I'm sorry, why is Beilin being quoted here?
sk ,   USA   (09.28.07)
Of course, one wouldn't expect Beilin just to shut up for once. In no way can I be considered pro-rabbinate. But unlike so many leading Israelis, Shapira was not personally corrupt, he took his Torah seriously, and he couldn't be bought off. Oh, and Beilin has the nerve to talk about "crossing red lines," given his support for leftist refusal to serve in Yesha. And, even worse, the whole issue of Religious Zionist refusal has come up now, not 20 years ago, because only now have the post-Zionists fully seized the levers of power.

BECAUSE IT'S YNET, THAT'S WHY ! THEIR QUOTE: "Rabbi Shapira held right-wing political views" THEIR QUOTE SAYS IT ALL ! THE TRUTH ? RABBI SHAPIRA HELD "RADICAL" TORAH VIEWS ! NOT,EXTREME,NOT "POLITICAL" T O R A H V I E W S !! rad·i·cal /ˈrædɪkəl/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[rad-i-kuhl] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –adjective 1. of or going to the root or origin; fundamental: a radical difference.
11. beilin the hate monger!
elchonon ,   jerusalem   (09.28.07)
Rav shapira was a rabbi!! why dirty his legacy by quoting a crooked corupt politician? Maybe when beilin dies we should go to a right wing rabbi for what a evil man belin was and will surely roast in hell. Please, whether or not you agree with a rabbi's views, and even us right wing religious jews greatly disagree with many of his views. Show some respect for a 86 year old former chief rabbi!
12. Beilin - A Disgrace
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (09.28.07)
This evil man does not have even the most minimal human decency, the most basic courtesy, of keeping his mouth shut at this time - even before the late rabbi is buried! Beilin is totally unethical and inconsiderate and must be removed from public life. He is a complete disgrace. Boruch Dayan Emes for Rabbi Shapiro.
13. PLEASE REMOVE BEILIN FROM THE ARTICLE
SHALOM ,   ISRAEL   (09.28.07)
14. Go to hell, Beilin
Youth ,   Israel   (09.28.07)
The Rav never said any such thing, and not only didn't he create any "crisis of faith", but strengthened our faith. And gave us strength to continue to oppose scum like you. We know you're so concerend about our faith- but not for the right reasons. Know that it is unbreakable.
15. And some lefties
Israel   (09.28.07)
create generations of grandchildren unable to gather to say kaddish as their great/grand/sabba decided to nuke himself when dead. How totally irresponsible and causing such a terrible spiritual crisis for future innocent generations..
16. What beautiful comments(TB's)
Israel   (09.28.07)
and some from unexpected sources, making them even more precious. The year we came on Aliyah we walked down to the Kottel the evening of Yom Haatzmaut, following the Mercaz Harav boys who danced around haRav Shapira z'tz'l for hours. A beautiful sight shared by religious and secular from the absorption centre in Mevasseret over thirty years ago. How beautiful was the country we came to...back in those days. The people prominent back then were an inspiriation to us all. Those arriving these days, can not say that unfortunately . Just check out those whose opinions were made known in those days, to the poor quality we're force fed today.
17. His memory, legacy and "guts" will be a blessing for all

Israel   (09.28.07)
on the Rav ZL.The ugly comments on Joe B. I agree with, they're ugly as are his words. He tried to contaminate a beautiful article and should never have been included. Contamination by association. I suggest that his opinions be burnt to ashes in future. He should appreciate that gesture.
