I believe 100% that parents have to watch their kids, but I would ask you, and all parents - have you EVER stepped out of a room and left a small child behind, believing that he was safe? I know I have, and I think that most parents would answer in the affirmative. Accidents do happen unfortunately. One time I left a kid in a crib and went to the bathroom. When I got back, said child had climbed out of the crib and was trying to force-feed the baby in his carriage. Thank G-d no harm was done, but here was a totally innocent situation which could have led to screaming headlines: "HAREIDI FATHER ALLOWS TODDLER TO KILL BABY" Worth thinking about.

need to be taken when there are smalll children in the home. A bench near an open window is definitely out of bounds ! If you are too busy to be in the same room with the child - place him in a playpen or some enclosure. A child is precious and has to be tended to properly.

What happened to having the window bars so children can't fall out? Rational thought is not allowed in Bnei Brak?

as another opportunity to attack the Haredi. Did you know that there are close to50,000 abortions in Israel each year? And that these abortions take place at any stage of the baby's development, even in the last months of pregnancy when with some medical help the baby could be viable outside the womb? I'm not making up those figures. Check them at: http://www.friendsofefrat.org/index.php So you're not going to tell me that the secular are better parents than the Haredi. This incident was an unfortunate oversight. That's all. I'm a secular, by the way. I'm just tired of all this hate campaign against some Jews. We may not agree with them, so what. Just let them be. Save your resentment for those who really threaten you.

This was a Sukkot Miracle! However, let this serve as a wrning to all parents of Toddlers and Little kids that like to climb, no items that they can climb on beneath windows ever especially open windows. That goes for no Toddler/kids beds under windows either, remember what happened to Eric Clapton's young son years ago(he was bouncing on the bed and bounced out the window and died). So keep an eye on your little ones, make sure they are safe, bars on windows, dangerous chemicals up high, don't leave them alone in a bath Etc. If you have any other child rearing questions about safety Read DR Spock he may be old fashioned but he knows what he is talking about!
