3. The numbers are reversed
The silent majority   (10.01.07)
To 5% of the Americans, aka the Jewish lobby, Ahmadinejad's visit to the US was unnecessary. These 5% are very powerful and very noisy. They will do anything to convince you that 95% of the Americans are in favor war against Iran. All the demonstrations against the visit were organized by Jewish organizations. Mr Plocker, you're not fooling anyone.
4. Stalin called them 'useful idiots!;

7. Only 5%?
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (10.01.07)
When it comes time to vote, they don't count for all that much and most of the other 95% of us know already who our moonbats are. Just ask Mr. Soros about the last elections.
8. American liberal Jewish community
Tomas ,   New York   (10.01.07)
FYI, high percentage of Jewish liberal American community are supporters of the Iranian president. In many discussions with this community I was amazed of there support for him. There the perfect" useful idiots"
9. US academic are blind
Edward ,   Bolton Britain   (10.01.07)
US academic have not really condemned mad ahmad nejad even when Iran says it is at war with US. http://ayatollah.blog.co.uk/
10. Not Exactly
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (10.01.07)
"Zionists use the Holocaust to achieve their political objectives and to justify the expulsion and repression of the Palestinian people" There have been, in fact, some people who have used the Holocaust as an excuse for Jews establishing their own country in this part of the world. But, this is wrong. The legitimacy of the Jewish presence in the Holy Land is, first and foremost, Biblical as it is so written in our Torah and, we believe, therefore, G-d's plan that we live in and govern this part of the world. As far as I can tell, there have not been mass expulsions of Arab populations from their traditional towns and villages, despite the fact that their violent behavior towards us Jews has often warranted this. There is no such thing as official "repression" of peaceful Arabs in Israel. All doors to higher education and business, etc. are open to them. The crux of the matter is that the Moslem world has not come to terms with what is written in the Bible which is what we believe to be True and Divine.
11. Ahmadinejad's American Friends
Malcolm Light ,   Cortegana Spain   (10.01.07)
What you said makes absolute sense. Congratulations on your critical analysis of the problem. Too bad western leaders are incapable or unwilling to reason out the correct problem and how simple the solution is. Don't forget Spain under Muslim control was a good model for a multi - ethnic and multi -religious society. How come modern Israel can't do it?
12. It used to be called "radical chic" ...
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.01.07)
Way back when I was young, many idolized Black radicals like the Black Panthers who advocated the most extreme ideas. They were invited to cocktail parties by the rich & famous. Then there was the Che Guevera phenomenon & "revolutionaries" were "in" - And let's not forget Chairman Mao & his Red Book which supposedly intelligent people found profound - ignoring the approx. 50 million Chinese who died because of Mao's bizarre philosophy. Even Ho Chi Minh became a hero of sorts in the anti-Vietnam War frenzy that gripped American intellectuals. We were supposed to ignore the hundreds of thousands that ended up in prison camps, the poverty he created in S. Vietnam, & the thousands of "boat people" that fled his police state. My university professors in many subjects (history, sociology, economics) spent more time criticising America than teaching. Nothing much has changed since. Now the Palestinians & by extension, anyone who is anti-American in the Third World, especially, the Muslim third world, have become the new beneficiaries of "radical chic". And, when you say anti-American, anti-Israel fits in just fine, the two being somewhat synonomous in some minds. In some measure, this is also the result of a certain moral relativism, the multi-culturalism so prevalent in some circles. All religions, all cultures, all peoples, all customs should not be judged, things are not wrong, just different. And while this holds true to a point, somewhere along the line, we ARE obliged to make judgements. All things are not equal, some things are just plain wrong. But many in the West are unwilling to defend their own values. Because Western democratic systems are not 100% perfect, than they are unworthy. We in Israel know well this phenomenon - we are held to the absolutely highest standard of moral perfection while the behavior of our nasty neighbors is excused away. And I think this is what Plocker noticed among the 5% -
13. They are overeducated idiots who have only learned from a
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (10.01.07)
book in a college library. None of these smucks will protect their country and join the military. If they do join, like the Kennedys, it is because they want to be in political favor. They definitely in their hearts, don't support the war or the troops. You might as well shut down most of the colleges, they are full of liberal minds pushing liberal agendas whether the agenda be good or detrimental to the United States. Why do you think he went to a College in the first place? They pretty much push one of their alumni into the White House at every election. They just hope the rogue conservative who might be religious never makes it to the podium. That would be a travesty for every Liberal college professor. If he wanted to talk to the working man.....he would have attended a union meeting. He's talking to the people who have degrees and supplant their children into the highest paying jobs in the nation. They don't go to war.....and they always protest any war whether legitimate or not, because little Johnny might be killed. And the rich just can't have that happen for the good of the country. They would lose power.
14. No. 11
NYC Girl   (10.01.07)
It was centuries ago that Spain was under Muslim control. In contrast, the Muslim world of today is made up of some of the most racist, misogynistic and homophobic societies on the planet, so your comment is totally irrelevant.
15. #11 Malcolm Light, Cortegana Spain.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.01.07)
You need to do some serious reading instead of repeating untrue myths of some harmonious "multi-ethnic, multi-religious" model in Muslim Spain. I suggest you read "The Jews of Muslim Spain" by Eliyahu Ashtor, "Islamic Spain (1250-1500)" by L.P. Harvey, & "Moorish Spain" by Richard Fletcher. While culturally of great interest, Muslim Spain was by and large a collection of fratricidal warring fiefdoms. There was constant warfare, shifting alliances, conflicts between Arabs & Berbers, Christians & Jews were "dhimmis" or second class citizens, there were numerous massacres of Jews in Granada, forcible conversion under the Almohads, in other words, hardly a model of coexistence. Of course, it became even worse after the Christian reconquista .....
16. right on the money
alan ,   Right Hand Point   (10.01.07)
this writer gets every nuance I am reading right the left libs think Bollinger was rude to Hitler encarnate. oops that makes me a neo con. 30 percent of the audiance applauded ahmad the bad. how did every ding bat in NY City get into the speech. or is that 30% of Columbia, or more even?
17. what would happen if...
dani-el ,   shooshan   (10.01.07)
lets remember that the palestinians were living in soon-to-be israel leading up to the independence day war. at the the 11th hour they departed on their own will to make way for the coming slaughter. that is why they are outside of israel and should stay there. the palestinian expulsion needs to be called what it is, the palestinian exodus.
18. could you name the author of what you are quoting???
Andre ,   Israel   (10.01.07)
I doubt so... :-S
19. Major lie persists
Meir ,   Jerusalem   (10.01.07)
One major lie that is mentioned: "the Arabs in Palestine were forced to give them their land." This is completely untrue. What really happened is that the other Arab countries that were planning Israel's destruction told the arabs living in the land of Israel to leave their homes temporarily so that the Arab nations can go in and kill all the Jews. Then the Arabs that were living in the land of Israel can get their homes back and take the homes of the Jews. It is totally false that the Jews who were fighting against the Arab agression were displacing any Arabs. They all left on their own.
20. US Leftists Sympathise with him
Semsem ,   New York, USA   (10.01.07)
Soon some US actors who have been visiting Chavez will be running off to Tehran. Author is correct that US leftists agree or sympathise with him.
21. What "elite?"
David ,   Los Angeles   (10.01.07)
This article is just more of the same claptrap about "liberal elites" that feeds the likes of #13 who thinks we might as well close down all the colleges (major chip on his shoulder?). The irritating sentiments attributed by Severe Plonker are the views of a fringe, not any "elites."
22. Ahmadinejad's American friends
Darin Green ,   Fort Worth, TX USA   (10.01.07)
I would like to know the names of the people you got the quotes form, or where I may find them myself. It is un-American, for one moment to entertain anything the Crazed Man from Iran had to say.
23. #20- You are only too correct.
Cameron ,   USA   (10.01.07)
This Left-wing view that has the audacity to call its self 'Progressive' seems more and more to be a true rot of both intellect and character.
24. you are terrible
free spirit ,   France   (10.01.07)
Why are so afraid of performing resaerch of the holocaust. It may convince relectunt people to change their mind. I am afraid no one doubts the holocaust exitence. But the problem is that people are crazy about how Zionists have exlpoited this crime against humanity ro perform another one even if comparing the two crimes is not appropriate for victims
25. Who supports Iran and Chavez
Jim ,   Chicago   (10.01.07)
First, the Progressives (i.e., communists). While Liberal means social-democrat, progressives are far-left people who believe that only Iran and Chavez may help their couse. And progressives have all anti-Semites on their side (wo may be communists or noncommunists). Furthermore, the have all the money of Soros, the wealthiest supporter of Hizbullah, Hamas, and Chavez in US. Soros clearly stated that he wants to desroy US as a capitalistic entity.
26. Ahmadinejad's Ameriican Friends
Malcolm Light ,   Cortegana Spain   (10.01.07)
My comment 15. I quote from Barraclough (1999). "During the High Middle Ages Jews from the Near East and north Africa settled in southern Italy, Spain, France and southern Germany. They flourished in Spain under the first Umayyad caliph of Cordoba, 'Abd ar-Rahman III (912-61), and continued to play a major role in society, learning and commerce until 1391" (479years)." "Despite the massacres which attended the First Crusade in the 1090's, the 11th and 12th centuries consitituted the golden age of medieval German Jewry". "A series of expulsions from western Europe, beginning in England in 1290 lead to a steady eastward migration of German Jews (Ashkenazim)". "Most of the expelled Spanish and Portuguese Jews (Separdim) settled in the Ottoman empire and north Africa". These were Christians not Muslims who drove the Jews out. I rest may case. 27. One thing, though, Terry #12
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (10.01.07)
Terry wrote: "All religions, all cultures, all peoples, all customs should not be judged, things are not wrong, just different." All peoples - except the Jews.
28. #24 - I may be 'terrible', but you are ignorant...
Joe ,   Los Angeles, CA   (10.02.07)
First of all, learn to write English correctly... your inability to write English causes everyone to question your ability to understand anything written in English... Secondly, the Holocaust is undeniable, indisputable FACT. Even the fact that 6 Million Jews were murdered by the Nazis is undeniable, indisputable FACT. This isn't just Zionist 'spin', there is more evidence proving that the Holocaust happened than there is that America declared independence from England! As regards "exlpoiting this crime against humanity ro perform another one", never forget that the Arab Exodus from Palestine was caused by ARABS WHO DECLARED WAR ON ISRAEL! The very same "poor defenseless Palestinians" that fled before the "evil bloodthirsty Zionists" were the ones who rattled the sabre of genocide and "driving the Jews into the sea" to begin with!! The Arabs attempted genocide against us, failed, and refuse to accept defeat. Regardless of how you choose to spin this fact, this is undeniable reality. Wake up from your slumber of biased dogma, 'free spirit', for everybody's sake...
29. sarcasm & failure to cite facts makes the article disappntg
dante ,   uk   (10.02.07)
sarcasm is nice seasoning; it really makes a good meal or essay. in this case, it is disappointing. the article does not cite examples, if there are such, of the way in which the arguments of the iranian lunatic have insinuated themselves into the thinking or speech of Americans. the author might be on to something and I was interested to find out more, but the article turned out to offer only repetitive, tiresome, and unedifying sarcasm.
30. Irans Village Idiot
Samuel ,   California & USA   (10.02.07)
The only people who like Irans President are those who are mentally deficient or to state it more bluntly "they are retarded", completely incapable of sane thought.
