t.l.   (10.05.07)
i'm sure they did if they felt the need to use it. however lebanon didn't have any sophisticated surface to air systems to be concerned with. their only military is a bunch of fanatic muslims strapping a bomb on themselves or unguided garbage like the katyushas. lebanon does have a small airforce but they didn't launch a single plane to intercept israeli fighter jets.
34. Military news
Dan O'Connor ,   West Harrison, USA   (10.05.07)
In World War Two, Americans broke the Japanese navel code and that news was kept secret for most of the war and even for years after the war ended. These days everything that our military does or does not do, will be splashed all over the internet and show up on the front page of newspapers all over the world. Is it impossible to keep a secret in this day and age? Dan O'Connor
35. #17 won what ?
eugene ,   israel   (10.05.07)
36. AMERICAN technology
RightousInfidel ,   USA   (10.05.07)
Use it in good health Israel. I hope that it is another technology and Israel didnt use stealths or or sabatage. I can hardly remove the grin from my face picturing the horrified faces of the millahs in Iran, the iranian midget,Chavez, Putin, Pakistan, N. Korea, China heck, all of them. They have been kind of quiet, eh! I seriously doubt Putin knowingly sold weapons that didnt work. But it is known now, if true, and everyone will adjust, so lets enjoy the fear and distress this is putting them through right now. Sleep tight Iran. roflmao hahahahahaahaahaa
37. The cat is out of the bag
Yoav Naor ,   Haifa Israel   (10.05.07)
Bronze age, versus state of the art technology.Israel is swarming with Gen-X-Brainiacs. Now that most of the Jewish Russian Brainiacs have migrated to Israel. Russia sorely misses them. Russian state of the art radar systems are useless. They can always be made into garden ornaments. With the rest of the junk the Russians sold to Iran and Syria.
38. Pssst,would vood you like to vay a unused radar system
Yoav Naor ,   Haifa Israel   (10.05.07)
It's going cheap, never been used. If not how about a cheep Russian Vatch..It has the latest in bamboo springs. It can even tell time backwards. just don't over wind it.(in fact don't wind it full stop).
39. Syria and Iran are weak
Mike Thomas ,   Los Angeles, CA, USA   (10.05.07)
What a joke. You have got to be kidding me if you think these arab countries have a chance against the USA. Our Navy and Air Forces are just looking for something to do. If Israel can hammer Syria (with Turkey's blessing) just imagine what a few US carriers, Tomahawk Missles and Stealth Bombers can do to our enemies over there. Wake up losers!
40. 6??? WHERE IS NUMBER 6?!
(10.05.07)

50. Surely it was help from heaven above!
Jay Long ,   Los Angeles, CA   (10.05.07)
How did Israel's non-stealth jets infiltrate Syrian airspace undetected? Surely there was also help from heaven above.
51. SCHLEMIEL AND SCHLEMIELS
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (10.05.07)
THE SYRIANS MUST BE EXTREMELY ANNOYED THAT THEY HAVE PURCHASED THE RUSSIAN MUCH VAUNTED ...PANT-SYR -S.1 ANTI AIRCRAFT SYSTEM .HARD EARNED TAX PAYERS WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEMONSTRABLE USELESS RUSSIAN DEFUNCT SYSTEM FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.ASSAD HAS BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE ,AND ,THE RUSSIANS COULD BE OUT OF THE ARMS TRADE WITH THE ARAB WORLD.
52. those Ruskies!
ben newton ,   norwood, USA   (10.05.07)
They always had crap to sell to begin with. It was shown that their tanks in Iraq cook nicely. From boots to jets, all of their equipment is junk. I hope they keep selling to our potential enemies. Go Putin !
53. Trojan Horse?
amused ,   Bellevue, USA   (10.05.07)
Since the IDF can now control Syria's new but obsolete air defense system, Syria may find that it can destroy their own military aircraft. Mr. Assad, when traveling, it may be best to stay with ground transportation or get permission for safe passage from the IDF before boarding your aircraft.
54. #16 and #17
DR ,   Florida, USA   (10.05.07)
Israel cannot use superior technology on the ground when there are troops on foot. What they could have done is napalmed and flattened all of Lebanon, but that would have killed countless innocent civilians, right? So morality plays a role in war these days. We have to send in troops which gets a lot of them killed in order to spare innocent lives. This is something the Arab and Muslims world will never understand actually and see as aweakness. This is why David G., the muslim in hiding, thinks Hizbullah actually won something last summer...idiot!!!
55. syria strike
fred sanchez ,   hanford, usa   (10.05.07)
The technology to evade radar is over 30 years old, ....duh, radar "paints" a very specific pattern, make a copy of the pattern, and fly through the huge gaping holes, it is no different than twisting your way through a laser alarm system, just fly between the beams.. If there are 500 hundred radar, it makes no difference, .....every sweep pattern has holes.......fly through them.....wow, how clever, there is no "hush hush" equipment, there is only hush hush syrians, pretending they did not get their "ax" handed to them on a silver platter
56. hee he heee haa haa haaaah ; -))))))
ben ,   singapore   (10.05.07)
57. Russia to send SEEING EYE DOGS to support radar facilities
Meir Elazar   (10.05.07)
Having learned enormous lessons from this incident, the Russian are now engineering new upgrades to resolve the "Blinding". Each new facility will be provided with a squad of seeing eye dogs to support the system in the event that "Blinding" technology is used again.
58. To #17
Semper Fi! ,   San Diego, CA, USA   (10.05.07)
Whenever the vermine acts up you call pest control. With the barbarians, you don't know who to call!!!! They start something, you kick their behinds, their PM cries in front of the screen, they put children in front of the shelters and they hide to save their disgusting lives, they have half of their country destroyed like a poisonous vermine nest smashed and guess what? They need the usual suspect eurabia and russia to threaten the world in order to save that poor country from total destruction and what? The idiots still claim victory...It's unbelievable how stupid they can be!!!
59. russian weapons
fish   (10.05.07)
As a former russian citizen and a proud russian I have to say this - russians never exceled as fantastic engineers or inventors of something the world can use. There're no good Russian cars, TV sets, home or kitchen equipment, computers, - Russia lost this competition many years ago due to the ineffectiveness or her managerial system. Russia does have very bright minds and geniuses, but the system is rotten and has always been. Look at what Russia has offered to the world through 2 last centuries - wheat, timber, gas, oil, wax, linen, Kalashnikov, Stolichnaya, well anything else? Even the famous Kalashnikov is done in typical Russian way - a dead simple, vulgar weapon for poor people. The boast is you can drop it into the water, bury it in the sand etc and it won't fault you. But this is again - for the fight of poor people, who can't afford high-tec weapons, and have this primitive killing machine. Russia has lost a technological competition to the West forever, the scientists there get a salary of USD 1-2K - a joke by Western standards. Weapons manufacturing is more a political tool for the Russian regime, and much to my sorrow they side with the bad guys - Iran, Lybia, Syria etc. It looks like the rulers of Russia have for many years been the bad guys themselves, gendarme of Europe under the czars, and nuclear scarecrow under the commies. A crying shame that Mr Putin is riding on this hate wave to the West. - a typical trait of a tyranny - to nurture an image of an exterior threat and enemy in order to quieten the interior displeasure. Exactly what Iran is doing. Russia could have been in a different league of international players altogether. But it seems to derive more pleasure nowadays in spoiling fun for US, than it in doing somehting good for itself.A mysterious Russian soul, my butt...
60. What's new?
Damir ,   Russia   (10.05.07)
Aircrafts and air defence game goes on for more than fifty years already. It not always takes an advanced technology to penetrate air defence, often enough good surveillance and timing does the trick. It might be Syrians just had not had enough budget to cover all the holes in the surrounding terrain. I once had the training as nun-mem officer at the radar site.
