61. Semsem, how do we know you're not just a racist anti-Greek?
Lionel ,   USA   (10.06.07)
I have no beef with the Jews. They're a small nation like the Greeks doing what they must to survive. But you seem really to have an ax to grind. (While much has been saud about the anti-Semitism of Christianity--and you seem like the type who'd really get into that stuff--would it be worthwhile to do serious study on the anti-Hellenism of Judaism to explain the existence of people like you? e.g. Hannukah?). For the article talks about Albanians beating up a Jewish kid, and you blame Greeks(!). Now, you're even accusing them of being WWII "collaborators." Let's see now this level of "collaboration." Greece stood up first to the Italians and then to the Nazis. They fought, were consequently flattened, and endured a harsh occupation, led a brave and enormously self-destructive resistance and gave up, per capita, more lives in that war than UK and USA put together. Yet, according to you, they were "collaborators" In a strange way, the opinions of narrow minded ingrates like yourself tend to convince me that Greece should have allied herself to the Nazis in the way Albania or Bulgaria did. Or better still, stay neutral the way Turkey did. This way, they could have kept Germany at arms's length, not be conquered and not have had direct German military rule. It's in the countries that were directly occupied by Germany whose Jews were killed. Strangely, you seem to equate their heroism with "collaboration." Yet countries who raised nary a finger against Nazism (e.g. Albania, Bulgaria, & Turkey) get labeled "philo-Semitic," because their alliance with Germany or their neutrality meant that the Germans could not get their hands on the Jews there. In closing, google (google news) "Jack Cohen" and "Greece," and see whether the fellow in this story would agree with your idea that Greeks were anti-Semitic collaborators.
62. Anti-Semitism Greece?
Greg ,   NYC USA   (10.06.07)
Explain to me why you never hear of anything happening to Israeli tourists by Greeks in Greece? There are plenty of them on Crete and Rhodes and other smaller Islands. Semsem is full of it. And again these were Albanians and not all Albanians in Greece act like this, it's a few rotten apples (muslim Albanians). It's well documented Greeks tried to protect their Jewish population in WWII, nice try at revising history Semsem.
63. Straighten up dude!!!
frank costello ,   miami   (10.08.07)
A few questions? How does a jewish person identify an albanian in greece? Does he know the language? Previous encounters with albanians? Why was he singled out? Where were his friends? Why did they leave? All the other idiots need to know a few facts. Not all albanians are muslims. I am not. Not all albanians are criminals. Most make a honest living. Criminality is corelated to poverty. Kosova is albanian because the majority there are albanian, serbs are slavs not homogenous to the Balcans. Is this lad a russian jew?Judging from his last name I would say YES. Did you provoke them? Russians in general are not the nicest guys either.
64. Title! "Anti-Semitism: Israeli attacked in Greece"
Georgios Alexandrou ,   Athens Greece   (10.08.07)
There is a problem with this article! Sir (editor), In fact the reader of this article gets the impression (initially from the title) that there is an anti-Semitic aggressive hate in Greece. But this is absolutely unfair. The attackers are not indeed Greeks but Albanian racists who reside in Greece and usually they are against Greeks as well. A pragmatic title should be: "Albanian Anti-Semitic Racists attacked an Israeli citizen in Greece". As an antiracist Journalist I absolutely condemn the racist event and I feel great sympathy for the victim and his family. In any case I am against any racist aggressor, Greek, Israeli, German, Albanian or Russian. But I absolutely condemn this type of Journalism too, that blames a whole country for a fact for which Greece or Greeks are absolutely not responsible! Please correct immediately your fault!
65. The title of this article is misleading
Dimitrios B ,   Athens Greece   (10.10.07)
I agree with Georgios Alexandrou in his comment. I believe that someone that simply reads the title of this article can draw the wrong conclusions about the sentiments of greek people towards Jewish people. This is unfair and damages the image of greeks and greek tourism by discouraging Israeli people from visiting our welcoming country. The title should be corrected.
66. Greeks also Antisemitic
Petros ,   Athens, Greece   (10.10.07)
Firstly, dont bet they were Albanians. Secondly, dont bet they were Muslims. When I heard that an Israeli guy was attacked in Kos, I thought the attackers were Greek because there is a lot of antisemitism and anti-Israelism in Greece. Then I 've heard they were Albanians. Believe me, in Greece Albanians are not very proud Muslims, they dont exhibit, they dont act according to their faith and, finally, some Albanians are Christians also. In Greece, Albanian immigrants are trying to gain the sympathy or favor of their bosses, the Greeks, so as to survive in a highly racist society. In order to gain this favor, they immitate the Greek behavior and norms. The worst part of this thing is when they re-produce the racist, antisemitic Greek mentality. I dont say these particular Albanians were not responsible. They were! And the action was antisemitic! But, as a Greek, I firstly take the blame to Greeks!
67. No. 26 True Gisele
Dimitris ,   Athens, Greece   (01.06.08)
Actually that would be Greek Orthodox (10%) and Roman Catholic (20%). But otherwise. true. Also Albanians on the whole, including Albanian Muslims are not particularly religious or fanatical, a legacy of the Communist regime. Eg the immigrant group agitating most about the creation of a new mosque in Athens are the Pakistani and Arab Muslims.
