1. So we actually do have our own backbone?
Tahl ,   Israel   (10.06.07)
Despite the US being Israel's close and dependable ally, it is still good to know that we don't cave in to American pressure completely, when attending to our own safety needs.
2. Typical American politics
Alin Giurca ,   Bucharest,Romania   (10.06.07)
First I want to congratulate Israel for the successfull operation.Keep on the good work against the terrorists! Americans, you will only realize the true dimension of terrorism when will strike your own backyard. When they will nuke one of your cities, you will maybe awake!
3. THIS IS MORE PROOF
myron ernst ,   USA   (10.06.07)
that , in terms of military strategy, Israel must break away from its puppet-masters-the USA, EU and the UN. If these foreign entities don't approve what israel does for its own survival--TOUGH COOKIES !!
4. Bush / Rice reprehensibly pusillanimous!
Steve ,   US   (10.06.07)
Is it any wonder Bush is losing this war? With Bush at the helm, Iran will achieve its nuclear ambitions. Incompetent, weak-willed, lily-livered U.S. president.
5. Once again U.S. interferes
Marcel ,   Florida   (10.06.07)
The U.S. continues to trample Israels sovereignty and endanger her survival under the Bush,Clinton,Bush,Clinton crime syndicate. This has gone on for too long going back to the beginning of Israel's rebirth. The U.S. hypocrites are always looking for ways to balance their obligations to their Arab League buddies. Israel you are foolish to put your faith in corrupt and devious men. Jeremiah 17:5 How sad that there is no Israeli leader with faith or spine to stand up and say enough !
6. It's about time! Condi upset? Poor dear.
Anna   (10.06.07)
Israel needs to continue doind what is in the best interest of ISRAEL and NOT what bushy the Dictaror decides is within his idea of what is best for HIM. Hurray for Israel! No doube Condi will slap your hands, so to speak when she makes her "inspection" of the US Government Branch in Israel. It is TIME to tell US to BUTT OUT and stop relying on their faulty intelligence. Remember Pollard? He knew US operates AGAINST Israel. Take a lesson and cut that anchor. It will only bring you down.
7. Sounds like "SPIN" to me
Juan ,   Spain   (10.06.07)
This sort of report gives credence to the Arab's assertion that Israel is a state of America and is a puppet of the American regime. I don't actually believe it. I think that Israel obviously consult with the USA, as they are friends and allies (most of the time). However, the best way to have a surprise strike on an enemy installation is to tell no-one about it beforehand! This air strike has had the Syrians lying from the word go. First they said it was an open desert area, and the bombs just made a hole in the desert. Now it was a building which was being built, but had nothing in it. Soon it will be a nuclear facility which has been completely destroyed. The truth is usually on Israel's side, because they have morals.
8. I am so ashamed of Bush & his Rice Girl.
Roy c. Hudson ,   Pittsburg, USA   (10.06.07)
I have read from one to thru, seven (1-7) Many times i have said in all the Talk Backs from 2005-07. Israel has to think for Israel Land & Kids. go Unilateral and drop all the Politicians that are just passing through to have a Happy Hour party Power & Money when they hit the History books. Israel is the Nation Of God that will learn the lesson in time and Live fore ever in the Land. They will get it all when the smoke clears. Mr. Bush & all the rest for years has put the USA on the List. Zechariah 12;1-9 To supply Guns ,Money, and the very thought of Land for peace. to & with the PLO is insane.. The above, God said: I will seek away to destroy all that come against Jerusalem,Israel, & My chosen People & Nation. You don't get no better then that warning to the Gentile Blind Guides. I am ashamed of all the leaders of the USA now, I still have that right left.!! 1-7 it;s ok tell ti like it is OK?? ok. Roy C H ""USA""

You wrote: I think that Israel obviously consult with the USA, as they are friends and allies (most of the time). As with so many, you miss the dynamics of this strange relatioship. It's no longer friend ally, but bully, slave owner. Israel has a large yoke of U.S. imperialism arounf her neck and now must get permission to defend themselves. Remember who came to Hezbollahs rescue last summer with the ceasefire resolution they brought to the U.N. with the French when the IDF BEGAN TO GET THE UPPER HAND ? You have to watch closely or you will miss the devil in the details. Egypt and Saudi Arabia told Bush they could no longer sit back and threatened to get into the fight if the U.S. did not pull Israel back. And that is what the phone call from Washington to Olmert did ,the puppet Olmert stopped the IDF advance immediately when told to do so by Conid under Bush's orders. Of the two in this relationship one is great and powerful and the other is small and alone with not many ffirneds. Needless to say ,Israel having forgotten their God is desperate for a friend any friend even a bully will do. The truth is Israel has been threatened by the U.S. to follow their global agenda or be thrown to the wiolves also know as America's other allies and friends ,the Arab League. The doubleminded U.S. plays both sides and little Israel always loses until they seek their God. Then all the nations will lose .
10. Well said no 9 (end)

11. loosing our way
yehuda ,   Holit, Israel   (10.06.07)
Ignoring the last 40+ years of history, for the first time we fought a war like the Americans. Predictably we got burnt. Worse we still listen to the fools whose only concern is with pointing fingers at each other instead of realy dealing with this new global threat. In parallel we are begining to loose faith in ourselves. We need to pull our collecteve heads out of our collective butts or we are in real danger of loosing it all. We need to start cultivating new allies and learn to be more self sufficient. We need to reclaim our faith in ourselves.
12. Plausible deniability....
sk ,   USA   (10.06.07)
When Israel hit Osirak, Ronald Reagan was furious, even though he was clearly pro-Israel (perhaps more clearly than Bush). But Bush's response has been ... nonexistent, so far at least. Yes, the Prez's team is split, but it looks to me that Bush supported this but didn't want to have to agree to it. Thus the irony: a more independent Israel is actually in the US's interest, IF we (the US) really do care about Islamofascism. ilmert & the rest are actually not in the US's interest at all.
13. Marcel and Juan
sk ,   USA   (10.06.07)
The fact is that Israeli actions are similar whether or not the US "demands" them. The US didn't demand that Dayan give the Muzzies the keys to the Temple Mount. The US didn't demand that Israel beg Muzzies to stay in Israel (and, annoyingly, too many did). The US (Bush) seemed to beg Israel to finish off Hezbollah, and it was ISRAEL, particularly birdbrain Livny who wanted to get the UN involved. The dynamics of this "strange relationship" have been driven mostly by Israel's strange domestic political environment. Things were only slightly different when the USSR was around (e.g., the US DID pressure Israel not to obliterate the Egyptian army in 1973). When Sharon took back control of Judea and Samaria, Bush got very mad, but he did NOTHING. If Israelis need God not to be self-interested, apathetic, self-loathing peaceniks, fine. Thing is, Israeli leaders NEVER had much of a God focus, but they weren't always such scum.
14. sk #13: you make some good points @ Israel's weak leaders.
Steve ,   US   (10.06.07)
Saudi Ambassador (to the US) Prince Bandar is an esteemed member of the royal family. He has been a close friend of the Bush family for many years On September 13 2001, Bandar met on the Truman balcony with President Bush and the two men lit up cigars. This approximately 48 hours after 9/11 with the World Trade center towers were still smoldering. At the time Bush knew that 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis. He knew that Osama bin Laden was Saudi. And, as the 9/11 commission concluded, the White House knew that Saudi Arabia was the primary source of money for al-Qaida which was largely funded by wealthy Saudis by means of Islamic charities. Bush and Bandar were the only two people present; we do not know exactly what transpired. According to reports: That same afternoon, the first of 11 chartered planes began to pick up more than 140 Saudis scattered throughout the US. Saudi Arabia and the president's defenders have mounted a PR campaign to minimise the damage of the Saudi evacuation. The Saudi evacuation flights actually took place. http://911research.wtc7.net/cache/post911/aviation/tampa_phantom.html The departures were apparently approved by the White House and the vast majority of Saudi passengers were not interviewed by the FBI. To me, this is criminal. Beyond that, within days of the Saudi terror atrocities, Bush announced his vision of a Palestinian terrorist state in the Holy Land. He has expended considerable capital to see it to fruition. Again sk, this is criminal, especially in light of the fact Bush claims we are at war with "terrorism." Bush is working to establish another jihadist state in the Middle East. This one in Israel.
15. Total War With Islam Is Coming
Stu ,   England   (10.06.07)
The talk here in Britain is that if the Muslims carry out another terror attack in Britain then hundreds of British patriots will retaliate by rocketing the Mosques in Britain with stocks of RPG-7s bought on the black market from Serbia, according to the independent newspaper here, things about to hot up apparently.

I do agree with alot of what you write but you only see thru rose colored glasses ,you are decieved. I'll give you a few example's of many many more. Why does the president arm and traint and provide millions to the Plaestinian terrorists to this day after they are exposed as still seeking Israel's destruction. Don't give me the crap that he is a poor stupid president getting bad advice. I'm not swallowing the company kool-aid. It was the great conservative Ronnie Raygun who came to Yasser Arafat and the PLO's rescue in Beiruit Lebanon in 1982 PERIOD! I'm so tired of the pathetic excuses and cover up you make for the US. actions against Israel. If You want to keep your delusional views and twist the truth to fit your love for the monster America has become go ahead but don't expect the rest of us to go along willingly to the slaughter being set up by herr Bush and his Peace Reich It was the U.S /French who pushed the UN ceasfire which rescued Hezbollah and it was the u.S. who called their lap dog Olmert on the phone to retreat the IDF as they got up to the Litani River. in Lebanon

21. US withholds attack on Syria
Mel Fishman ,   Bowie, MD   (10.06.07)
Kudos to #15. I know the British are tough and won't take any more guff from the Moslems. If only France had the balls the British have they would reign in those who burned cars and property for many days. The US needs some of that testostorone and kick some butt.

appointed sec. of state. She has accomplished nothing in her job. The only thing she can do is give hajj bush stupid advice. It is time we told her to take a hike. Leave us alone with your stupid ideas,we have enough of our own!
23. to #14 Steve you are right

24. Marcel and Steve
sk ,   USA   (10.06.07)
Marcel, you were almost polite for a moment. I hope you are not becoming "femmenized." Guys, the problem with your view is that there are just too many inconvenient counterexamples (some of which I have already listed). I simply do not believe that Bush WANTS another jihadist state in the Middle East. The fact is, though, that the Israeli leadership seems to want one, and it has been trying to produce this result nearly immediately after 1967. I expect Bush to advance America's interests, not Israel's. Israel, however, seems unwilling to advance its own interests--starting from the ridiculous move to avoid expelling all Muslims from Israeli territory in 1948, 1967, & 1973. Rabin and his supporters were responsible for outlawing Kach; that wasn't America's doing. America didn't tell only 25% of Likudniks to vote for Feiglin. Regarding the Saudi royals, Steve, I am as disgusted as you. I consider W's connection to Saudis extremely unfortunate and, indeed, a moral deficiency on his part. Unfortunately, American presidents also know that economic crises produced by oil problems will be blamed on the president and his party. That is just a fact. And if, as I suspect, Bush wanted to go after two of the three piggy banks in the ME first (Iraq and Iran), it makes sense to stall on Arabia. But perhaps I am being too kind to Bush. I would have invaded Arabia in the 1970s, seized its oilfields, and killed as many of the people as necessary to control this resource. Don't blame ME. Marcel, you think I have "rose colored glasses"?! Just because I do not think that Israel is really a puppet in the US-Israel relationship, it follows that I am making excuses for Bushie? And no: LIVNY started this UN biz, the French jumped on board, and the US did nothing until it appeared that only the US had reservations. Now, you can call this theater, but I don't think it is. I think the US wanted Israel to prevail and hoped that this would bring Iran in, at which point the US would attack Iran. That's what I think. Oh, and America may be a monster, but it has not had a "disengagement."

Marcel ,   Florida   (10.07.07)
Too kind to Bush ? Please stop the orgy. My guess is that you get a paycheck from the gov. masta george, otherwise you could not be this naive ? Bubba Bill Clinton has much teflon peotecting him ,Bush has even more ,nothing sticks with you blind Bushbots. His soft stumbling words have seduced you into not seeing his evil side. I wonder if this is the first time you got burned ? The bully Bush can do anyrhing deadly agaisnt Israel and Bushbots blame the little puppy Omert for not saying not to the Bully Bull Mastif. Enjoy your sellout paycheck !
26. hypothetically speaking....
Max ,   Atlanta, USA   (10.07.07)
That was a very interesting story. But I much rather have heard about this 15-30 years from now on the History Channel. Right now the attitude needs to be "what strike". I am shocked that this newspaper would print such a story when it knows such a strike never happened. But, hypothetically speaking, had such a strike occurred which of course it didn't, but hypothetically speaking pretend it did, then again just of course speaking hypothetically. I would be ashamed that my country stalled the Israeli strike and would be very thankful that Israel eventually went ahead with the strike. I would want to thank Israel from the bottom of my heart. Of course, i am just speaking hypothetically as such a strike never occurred. So it would just be best for all of us not to even discuss such a fanciful tale. For it never happened.
27. #16- Olmert is a 'lapdog' for the French and US?
Cameron ,   USA   (10.07.07)
Marcel, he is quite the indecisive weak-sister under his own speed without any restraint from Paris & Washington.
28. Marcel (25), this getting comical.
sk ,   USA   (10.07.07)
You think Bush would consider my level of support deserving of a paycheck? Sheesh, he'd deserve better than I give him. Until you actually address my points (which I thought I expressed very clearly), there's no point in spending more time with you. Specifically, you will have to address the abundant evidence that Israeli behavior has been quite consistently counterproductive across decades of American presidents, so that you can't just blame Bush or even Clinton. You simply cannot explain a constant with a variable. Get it? If not, I'm willing to write it out in equation form.
29. This proves how DANGEROUS Rice/Livi truly is
Malcolm   (10.07.07)
This SISTERHOOD has damaged Israel beyond repair. 1) Katif Surrender 2)Rafah Surrender 3) Hamas Elections 4) Lebanon Surrender 5) Silence in the re-arming of Hizbollah to unimaginable levels. 6) Silence & No Red Cross visits for the kidnapped soldiers. 7)Silence while Egypt laughs and oversees the creations of a 40,000 strong well trained and equipped Hamas army. The enemies of Israel love the SISTERHOOD. The SISTERHOOD are the enemies of Israel.
