3. 'glorious Arab victory'??
(10.06.07)
Arab abilities at self-delusion never fail to stagger the outside war. Me? I always wrote it off as yet another crushing & shameful defeat of Arab armies and states. What the Arabs cannot accept, and never really will, is that the Jews, a people they have always despised and held in contempt, have met them, head on, man-to-man, in battle, and have utterly broken them any no. of times.
4. Ever heard Assad vowing to return territory lost to Turkey?
Tahl ,   Israel   (10.06.07)
Somehow, the Turks have taught Assad not to mess with them. Just a few years ago Turkey made an incursion into north Syria, in retaliation to constant provocations by Syrian Kurds. If I'm not mistaken, they still haven't left this place, and at any rate - we have heard nothing but deafening silence from Damascus with regards to this incursion. So after all - it looks like Syria is completely ok and content with losing some of its territory! With Israel, though - the story is different. Unlike with Turkey, Assad feels comfortable enough to release such belligerant statements against us. Maybe it's because Israel's diplomatic situation is much less stable than Turkey's, maybe it's because we have more enemies that share his views. Whatever it is, we must instill in him, the same fear he has from Turkey! And the lastest Air Force bombing was a good start.
5. Glorious Arab Victory?
Jacob   (10.06.07)
When Israel got themselves together after the shock attack by their Arab neighbours they counter-attacked and were on the verge of reaching Damascus and knocking Syria out of the war for good. Had it not been for the UN and the US then that objective would have been completed and maybe today, Israel would not be facing problems from an evil state that is commited to Israel's destruction since Bible times. Syria wants peace? yeah right, then why is the Syrian's government newspaper still speaking about a 'glorious Arab victory' and a war to take back the Golan? Syria and its ally Iran will pay the true price of messing with G-d's people and the Promised Land when the time comes...
6. This is like the run-up to 1967 war ...
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.06.07)
The Arabs are working themselves into a frenzy again. It seems to happen when enough time has gone by that they forget how badly they were defeated. From Iran to Syria, from South Lebanon & Gaza, the rhetoric is starting again. Remember Nasser before 1967? I think it's time to do a repeat performance -

8. A Happy Middle East both Israel &Syria satisfy with the same
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (10.06.07)
A few days ago Israel claimed a victory bombing a syrian nuke site and Israel even storm with its command o forces there, despite commando troops cannot raid via jets but require helicopters both in raid and come back, they somehow managed without helicopters. After raid They must take a bus to the lebnanese border and then with the guidance of Hizbullah came back to their country Israel! Syria was aware of Jets but not aware of their bombing therefore they were also happy to chase IAF jets rollback. As they had no nuke sites they had no complaint in getting a hit on their Nuke sites. YNET correspondent went to the bombing spot and amazed with IDF's deterenence rebuilding raid: A NON DESTRUCTIVE OF ITS KIND NEVER SEEN. He immediately turn to Jews wishpering in Syria! More of such events please self boasting for both side and Non destructive as well!
9. Syria got their butt's kicked
Claudia ,   Tampa USA   (10.06.07)
and if I recall it correctly the Israeli's were but 20 kilometers from Damascus, and the Egyptian 3rd Army was surrounded on their side of Suez. Of course this time it did take Israel about 3 weeks to clear out the Arabs thanks to faulty intelligence and Moshe Dayan. And then who did they blame? CofS Elazar who wanted to call up the reserves a week before Syria attacked in the Golan. I still fume over that injustice!
10. And is this an ophthalmologist?
Raz ,   NZ   (10.06.07)
Assad's degree in eye medicine cost him $500 in Roumania. With such an IQ , I doubt he even passed the first year's anatomy course.
11. BREAKING NEWS
zionist forever   (10.06.07)
SYRIA WON THE WAR IN 1973 If this is a glorious arab victory then why does Israel still have the Golan Heights which Syria wants so badly. I love the arab defentition of a victory .. little Assad needs to see an ophamologist get his eyes checked.
12. Three Cretins in a Boat
GZLives   (10.06.07)
I'm beginning to visualize all these cretins with big red noses and propeller hats on. Each one is sillier then the previous. OK so now we've had the Grand Poobah Mr. "There are no homosexuals in Iran" Ahmadinejad, followed by "We won, they lost" Nassrallah" and now this poor excuse for a Syrian warrior "lil" Bashar Assad" each one trying to out do the previous. Someone help this trio into Paradise already and make the world safer for humanity ....
13. Terry, the performance must involve taking Damscus.
sk ,   USA   (10.06.07)
A rational Muslim (and yes, I think this is logically possible) can know that no more land will be taken by Israel. If, however, Israel makes clear that any land seized in a future war will be annexed and the Muslims expelled, and if it makes clear as well that Damascus is Jewish land that must be returned to the Jews, I think the affection Muzzies have for war would decrease. Every time Israelis say "peeeeeeeeeace, peeeeeece," they subsidize risky behavior by the Muzzies, thus making it more likely.
14. Syria marks 34th anniversary of Yom Kippur War
Roxy ,   Israel   (10.06.07)
Hey wait did I miss something or what,Israel won that war, and defeated the Arab armies that attacked . These Arabs have short memories, or are they wearing rose colored glasses, each time they have attacked Israel they lost, and will continue to lose.
15. Our brave leaders went on to secure the Arab victory: hahaha
(10.06.07)
hahahahahahhaha
16. p.s. to #13 (Terry, and anyone else): "moral hazard"
sk ,   USA   (10.06.07)
Terry, you probably know the term "moral hazard," but for those who do not, please review the linked discussion. It is an extremely important principle that informs the link between government action and individual decision making. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_hazard
17. This is Olmert's same reasoning.
(10.06.07)
We lose land, therefore we win.
18. In the 'victory' they lost golan?!
ISRAEL ,   ISRAEL   (10.06.07)
NO WONDER 99 PERCENT OF ARABS ARE SO POOR, UNEDUCATED, AND LIVE IN THEIR OWN FECES. NO WONDER THEY DEPEND ON THE WEST FOR MEDICINE AND FOOD. I ACTUALLY FEEL A LITTLE BIT SORRY FOR THEM...THEY TRULY ARE THE DUMBEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A TV SHOW CALLED "WHOSE SMARTER: CAVEMAN OR ARAB?"
19. #6 Unfortunately Terry is right. They are so incredibly dumb
Scott   (10.06.07)
Its becoming ever-more present , the pro-arab/Islamos , somehow are trying to convince themselves that they can actually achieve the eradication of Israel militarily - and still be around to crow about it. I mean, these guys are not content with waiting for the demographic problems to take hold to get Israel back - they want it now and by force. Well, we all saw what happens when 'push comes to shove' - these people dont have the abilities they laud themselves with day-after-day. They simply dont. Yes, they may inflict a toll on Israel, but at absolute horrendous, crippling cost to their own countries - its just simply the most incredibly stupid folly that can ever be imagined...and they're doing it DUH!
20. What, ANOTHER glorious Arab victory?
Jonas ,   SAD   (10.06.07)
I am beginning to think that Arabs think victory is not when they defeat the opposite army, but when they stay barely alive. And then they mark the anniversary of staying alive as "a glorious victory." Oh, well, as we would say here (translated) - every jerk has his fun.
21. So Syria won?
di ,   Norway   (10.07.07)
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. utter stupidity. Long live Israel! Bless you.

24. #16 sk USA - "Moral Hazard"
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.07.07)
I think the term is more appropriate to financial institutions although I see your point re: bearing responsibility for the consequences of your actions. I find a more appropriate analogy in psychology - positive & negative reinforcement. Positive reinforcement works very well in most Western cultures. Unfortunately, in the Middle-East, negative reinforcement works better. Sadly, the effects of negative reinforcement wear off in time. So, periodically, another "dose" of punishment is necessary. It may be of interest to note that in Western cultures, a defeat or failure results in self-examination in an effort to explain & correct mistakes. In Middle-Eastern cultures, defeat cannot be admitted - saving face is more important, victory is declared, & eventually, they believe the distorted version of reality themselves. In a related manner, exagerated expressions of strength, grievances (real or imagined), & verbal threats as well as demonizing the enemy create a kind of mental frenzy which can lead to irrational calculations.
25. ASSAD
DANIEL RIMOKH ,   TARZANA   (10.07.07)
I SEE THAT THE SYRIANS LOVE TO DREAM.....THE GOLAN IS OUR TO STAY THAT WAY.....NO RIGHT MIND WILL ACCEPT TO GIVE BACK THE GOLAN....AND OLMERT SHOULD KNOW THAT...I HOPE HE DON'T GET CRASY AND DO FOOLISH THINGS....THE GOLAN IS THE RED LINE....ALL THE LEFT IN ISRAEL SHOULD KNOW THAT....THANK YOU.....DANIEL RIMOKH
26. Terry: Israel as insurance company.
sk ,   USA   (10.07.07)
I think your discussion of reinforcement and its Western and ME applications is quite apt. Consider, though, that the "Palestinians" have, objectively, no possible way of causing Israelis grief. And yet, over time, they continue to do so, and they get better at it. One might say, "yes, but they're brainwashed, not acting rationally," or perhaps "they are frenzied." But the Arab neighers also are causing trouble, and they also are getting better at it. Are they also irrational? No, they can't be, because they avoid the one thing that can set back their jihadist plans: a direct war with Israel. My thought is that Israel is effectively insuring their enemies against risk by guaranteeing that the enemies will not actually lose land, just not gain any, at worst. This leads to much more risky behavior than without insurance. Really, reinforcement can be integrated into this analysis by noting that the severity of the punishment * prob of its being delivered is offset by the benefits, but only in a situation of insurance against loss of additional territory. And if the Pals have nothing to lose, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt sure do.
27. syrian victory? fine. so, what's the fuss about the golan?
dante ,   uk   (10.07.07)
28. #2, assad dumber than he looks. that would take some doing!
dante ,   uk   (10.07.07)
29. high morals! but, to raise it further
observer   (10.07.07)
in 56, not only military POW but also civilian workers execution in Sinai by the IDF was the sign of high morals. in 67, the IDF stopped counting the POW, instead the "harvest" began. With little water and food those POW lives could have been saved. To further raise the IDF morals, Dayan arranged contests for murdering POW. Only few shy signs of repentance can not repair the damage. http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/898
30. 25, Daniel in Tarzana
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (10.07.07)
i agree with your email that Israel should never give away the Golan. I moved from Canada to the Golan and I hope more Jews make aliyah to the Golan. By the way where is Tarzana?
