stude ham   (10.08.07)
and nerts to you mr. EU envoy. your little collection of countries has been unable to bring about peace to any part of this world... from somalia to sudan to zimbabwe to iraq to afghanistan... and you dare tell us what is in store for us if another ME 'peace coference' doesn't work to your liking? we still haven't forgotten the sudetenland... and its 'peace in our times' headlines.
2. Of "great importance to Europe"?
Howard K ,   NYC   (10.08.07)
And it shouldn't fail? I thought this was about reaching an agreement so that Israel could live in peace. Apparently not. This is about appeasing the Muslims of the world so that the Europeans can avoid riots and terror ... for the time being. Throwing Jews to the crocodile hoping that the croc will eat the Europeans last?

You gotta stop drinking so much of Bush's Kool-Aid . It's your pied piper who leads you to the slaughter house who is setting up this meeting to reward the Islamic terrorists with Jewish land. Got that ? Or is it too hard to understand ? Annapolis is in the U.S. ,United States of America ,not E..U. Annapolis ,Maryland. Have you got that ? Now have you got that ,sober up and try again tomorrow.
7. Ah, Marcel, you simple soul, get out of that................
Cameron ,   USA   (10.09.07)
hot Florida sun, dive into that refreshing ocean, and wash away those little voices that always seem to whisper 'the sky is falling, the sky is falling' in your ear. This Annapolis meeting reeks of intense EU whining and pressure to some how, some way, 'just make all those scary, intractable problems go away. If anything, my 'piper' plays a much more happier, up-beat song than your Apocalyptic, 'funeral- dirge' musician.
8. TO # 1
ERIK ,   CZECH REPUBLIK   (10.09.07)
WHY DO YOU THAN TRY SO HARD TO JOIN THE E.U. AND NATO???
9. negotiations arab version
chaim ,   miami beach usa   (10.09.07)
As I understand progress in negotiating with the Arabs is, it does not matter that the Arabs lost each and every war they started with Israel, it does not matter that the Arabs never but never honored any agreement or commitment made to Israel, it does not matter that the Arabs do not have any unity or any system of Government that can enforce any commitment to peace with all their covert support to their terror groups. To the world what really matters is that they the Arabs promises to try and hopefully convince other groups of terrorists to at times abide by a period of quite but with no guarantees. And if that is not sufficient for the Jews then they will again (why use again they never stopped) waging war against Israel. They call such an uprising Intifada well if they do initiate such conflict, I hope that the government in Israel will finally do to them as they have tried time and time again to do but failed miserably to drive the Jews into the sea. and do to the Arabs what they wanted to do the Jews, cleanse out the entire land known as Israel from troublesome Arabs and their left wing compatriots, either send them to any Arab Country or as they say drive them into the sea. The so called free world will threaten and impose sanctions against Israel, they will involve a defunct failed UN to lend their threats some veneer of legitimacy and proclaim as usual, Israel is violating International law. I Having survived the generosity these same countries showed the Jews during world war two, the time that Germany openly slaughtered any hapless Jew that had the misfortune to fall into their claws, I would choose to be rid of these murderous Arabs and be denigrated, vilified and scorned, boycotted by these so called civilized countries, but remain alive, free and have a future. To have progress in such much touted conference is not by making demands in advance of any kind and if such preconditions are not granted they will not even attend, by not issuing dire catastrophic warnings if such conference should fail to produce Israeli surrender what the Arabs in 60 years of conflict could not do. Issuing such unequivocal pre conditions is basically a declaration of continued conflict does the western world really expect that Israel will be acquiescing to suicidal self destruction demands because the Arabs will again go berserk or it will buckle under pressure from outside uninvolved countries, can only be seen through a opium induced haze. Jews are known as AM Kashy Oref a thick necked stubborn nation I doubt that the citizens of Israel will be willing to stretch out their necks to be slaughtered because of the unrealistic threats emanating from a rag tag ungovernable gang of murderess, or their so called European friends. Israel stand strong or you will certainly perish
10. Every time they give the same warnings

Don't these diplomatic "expertts" get tired of being wrong? I suppose they get paid whatever yarns they spin.
11. EU, US & Oil will force Israel to concede everything...
Nannette ,   London   (10.09.07)
America is helping the Arabs, and restricting Israel in its self-defence, they got REALLY angry when Israel bombed Syrias nuke facility that they'd known about for months: http://abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=3695754&page=1 And here's Newt Gingrich on America's phony war, let's face it, the Saudis are Bush's best friends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN9cqtJTvF4
12. To Mr. M. Otte. NOTHING Should Be Forced On Israel !!!
Maansingh ,   The Netherlands   (10.09.07)
You say :".. American strategy has not worked in Iraq, ..". WELL, when Sunnis and Shiites are killing each other in Iraq - at the rate of 3,000 killings a month from March 2006 till December 2006, from January 2007 till August 2007 at 2,000 killings a month, and now it has halved to 1,000 killings in September 2007 - you can NOT blame America for the killings. IF you want to blame -- blame al-Qaeda and Ayatollah-Iran for all the sectarian killings in Iraq. Mr. Otte, you are dishonest towards America. The ones who SHOULD be blamed you are not blaming, and the one who should NOT be blamed you are blaming. BTW you should NOT criticize America -- you SHOULD help America !! BTW the war on terror will be a decades-long struggle against islamofascists -- there is NO quick-fix to it. BTW by stripping Israel of the Gaza Strip you have NOT stopped the Kassam rockets from being fired into Israel -- so, do NOT force Israel to commit the same MISTAKE in the West Bank !!!! BTW the Palestinian- Arab-issue will ONLY be solved be re-educating the Palestinian Arabs -- all the Jew-hatred and destroy-Israel wordings SHOULD be removed from the School Textbooks. And THAT will take 30 years -- so, don't FOOL yourself with a quick-fix. CONCLUSION : NOTHING should be forced on Israel !!! LET Israel take her time to think about everything carefully -- even IF that thinking may take 5 or 10 years.
13. Some guidance for the EU Otte-bot
Hunt S. Cross ,   England   (10.13.07)
I don't suppose any reporters bothered to ask Otte what the EU's criteria for success actually are? Simply because EU officials need to be held accountable for their declarations and actions, let's try and work out what this man truly believes. First, he doesn't think that either Olmert or Abbas are capable of bringing about a solution to the conflict. While I think he underestimates Olmert's powers of capitulation, let's give Otte the benefit of the doubt and move to the one clue he provides as to the form his final solution would take which is that it's inevitable that Hamas forms part of it. Again, he underestimates Hamas. They're no-one's puppets. They never waited for Iranian support to provide for the eradication of Jews, any Jews, in their Charter. And, hey, with no one expecting Hamas or Syria to participate, there's no means of putting direct pressure on Hamas to moderate its stance. Which means that it's Hamas' current policies which form part of Otte's criteria for success. On the big assumption that he must contain some human DNA, here are some alternative criteria for success that the EU might like to give positive consideration to as a means of removing the basis for the conflict: 1. a declaration by all participants that, having captured Judea and Samaria in a defensive war against Jordan which Israel had done its best to avoid, Israel is legally entitled to incorporate all of this territory if it so wishes. 2. recognition by all participants that the Jewish people has had a continuous presence in Israel since biblical times. 3. recognition by all participants that the creation in 1922 of the state of Transjordan / Jordan on 78% of Palestine mandate territory reserved for the re-creation of a Jewish state resulted in an independent state with a majority Palestinian population. 4 recognition by all participants that the Muslim massacres of Jews in the territory of the Palestine mandate and elsewhere in the 1930s and 1940s were influenced by a combination of Islamism and Nazi propaganda and that these remain the values of the particular "liberation" movement whose involvement the EU representative regards as inevitable. 5. condemnation by all participants of the racist anti-semitic propaganda and educational materials emanating from many parts of the Arab world, including Fatah controlled areas, and the appointment of an inspectorate charged with eliminating it. 6. condemnation by all participants of the damage done to Jewish relics on the Temple Mount site caused by the Waqf administration and removal of the Waqf from this position of responsibility. 7. condemnation by all parties of continuing Fatah and Hamas violence against Israel and making the continuation of aid of any sort conditional on its immediate cessation. 8. agreement that all parties involved in the conference, together with other parties not involved, are considered responsible in various degrees for the flight of Palestinians from Israel and the flight of Sephardic Jews from Muslim countries, acknowledgement that these parties, having regard to the different means at their disposal, handled the refugee problems with different degrees of humanity and the acknowledgement of responsibility for the cost of reparations to the victims by those responsible. 9. immediate recognition by all participants of the state of Israel with Jerusalem, open to people of all religions, as its capital. 10. agreement on the part of all participants to name the resulting declaration the "Anti-Khartoum Declaration" in recognition of the countless missed opportunities for peace there have already been. If everyone subscribed to these, there would be precious little chance of the conflict erupting again. But, then again, perhaps someone might take the last one the wrong way. I hope others will add to the list and maybe make their respective lawmakers aware of the pressing need for it.
