2. Any bets no mention of Islam?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.10.07)
In the Land of Oz, reality takes second place to idyllic daydreams of peace & love. The only villains are the fanatic Zionists. The poor innocent Palestinians are as always, victims - certainly in no way responsible for their situation. Without those evil Zionists, the whole Middle-East would live in peace and harmony. After all, Islam is the "Religion of Peace" as we see daily in the news. Some might say that the fanatics are people like Mr. Oz - who believe with perfect faith propositions that have no basis in reality & refuse to consider any facts that contradict their own views. Well, Mr Oz - my suggestion is that you take those spoons and shove 'em where the sun don't shine. By the way, congratulations on doing another disservice to your country.

Honestly, have you been sniffing some raw sewage recently, when the sewers in your city were not working properly? One thing is for sure: by writing what you write you make it absolutely clear that you never ever read a whole book or even one tiny article of Mr Oz, neither in Hebrew nor in English, Swahili or Swedish. If you had you probably would not have written the rubbish that you posted here.
6. sounds...
elisheva b. ,   san francisco, ca   (10.10.07)
...like terry should move from israel preferably to the west bank or gaza strip, and rashid should find a better use for his spoons, like improving the world instead of destroying it. as for the article and what the swedes are doing with this book, sounds interesting. let's see what happens with this project.

I have not read any works of literature by Mr Oz - it's just not my taste. I understand that he is quite a brilliant author & he has won many awards. I have read his political essays & articles (also not to my taste). He was a member of Peace Now, a supporter of Meretz, & my understanding is that he believes that our conflict is only about real estate & thus amenable to some agreement. He was also a supporter of Oslo. In his favour, he still considers himself a Zionist, secular & left-wing, but still Zionist. Like many on the left, he holds Israel to impossible standards while ignoring the nature of our nasty neighbors. As his ideas became more & more marginalized here in Israel rather than re-examine his ideas in light of actual events, such as the complete failure of Oslo, he instead criticised Israel all the more. As did many on the left, seeing their support almost completely disappear here in Israel, he turned to Europeans as his political audience. And herein lies my harsh criticism of him - had he remained here, no matter that I find his ideas at best utopian (at worse, delusional), he has a right to his opinions, no matter how unfounded. But to be a "cover" for our enemies in Europe (& we have many), to undermine public opinion in Europe to our detriment, is beyond the pale. Now this may be an atavistic response on my part, that Jews should keep our arguments among ourselves & present a united front against others, but it is an attitude which has served us well for quite a long time. Sorry for such a lengthy reply - it must be the raw sewage getting me high.

If you haven't read the particular book on which you expound your opinions at great length, it is you that is producing the raw sewage ...you have a bloody nerve to critique a book you have never even read...that is what is known as charlatanism at the best and dishonesty at its worst
9. thank you leftist elite
Gilly   (10.10.07)
we the humble masses are so grateful, what would we do without you? how would we learn to think?
10. I read it. It sucks.
Eliyahu   (10.11.07)
AMos Oz has won many awards and is a heralded author. Just as Barak is Israel's most decorated soldier, these facts aren't really indicative of much. I've read a few, tried to read several others and I don't like his books. Mr. Oz is a pure caricature, a product of zionism, not really an original thinker in his own right. Reading party rhetoric, leftist propaganda, is painful even if it happens to be well written. He demands that settlers be forcibly, perhaps viciously removed form their homes in the name of unilateral peace. Peace can not be unilateral by definition. Yet he roasted Begin for surrendering the Sinai in an agreement that still stands. He criticizes Torah Judaism yet his ignorance on the subject is a national embarrasment.
11. Some of his books are so good! BUT,
Claudia ,   Tampa USA   (10.11.07)
his politics are truly a mystery to me considering his early writings. How he could be one of the Peace Now activists and write as he did leaves me to think he does really love Israel, he's just WRONG!
12. oz: another complacent fool who congratulates himself on...
dante ,   uk   (10.12.07)
oz criticizes, deprecates, attacks Israel and congratulates himself for doing so. the clueless, sanctimonious, fool joins the chorus of Israel's mortal enemies and thinks that he has done Israel a favour. has he ever done anything constructive? created positive protagonists who are Jewish, Israeli? oz has placed himself in a sewer and, then, complains about what he sees.
13. Why use a spoon when you have a knife
rh ,   Modiin Israel   (10.14.07)
Mr Oz would use a spoon in Iran also. Is the spoon to defeat the enemy or to extuinguish the guilt of the user
