1. Inflammatory language
carmi   (10.16.07)
I think the use of the word UPRISING is a dangerous word to use for this incident. We know your job is to sell papers but you should also show some civic responsibilty. Perhaps use the title Paratrooper INSUBORDINATION. PS. This is the only country e have and the only IDF we have. Perhaps the editors of this website should be more carefull not to destroy it.
2. Sounds like Animal House in Israel.
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (10.16.07)
I suspect Flounder and friends will spend a little time in the deans office.
3. A food fight? That headline made me hope
(10.16.07)
that soldiers were refusing to carry orders against Jews, like the recent removal of outposts, for example. But no. It was against punishment for a food fight. OMG - poor Israel....
4. how to punish soldiers abandoning guns, disobeying orders?
observer   (10.16.07)
the answer is mass punishment Of Gazans.
5. the boys have a little fun and....get thrown in the slammer?
jack bauer ,   for solidarity   (10.16.07)
I would take one of those paras over 100 of their pathetic officers. A food fight and a smoke grenade? Ok fair enough make them all pull extra guard duty or go on a long march through the desert....but throw their leaders in jail? WTF.....the guys who will be tigers in battle soon enough will lead the others....I doubt they would have thrown the smoke.....but the get cowed by the senior officers? For shame! Food fights may be messy, but just make them clean it all up....no harm done....in the end they have a healthy competitive thing going on....in the end they become stronger brothers....in the end the senior commanders are shown to be fools!
6. Woosies will never be Golanchikim
Golani Sheli ,   Israel   (10.16.07)
No matter how hard they try.
7. Strange elite soldiers they have in Israel
Petteri ,   Finland   (10.16.07)
Seems that the discipline among Israeli army is on a level of bad behaving kindergarten children. Amusing story. No doubt that the Hizbollah and Hamas guys will have a big laugh. Next time they sing songs and throw tomatoes in order to get the Israeli troops to loose control.
8. Obviously need new commander
Mike ,   Chicago   (10.16.07)
Cannot command respect need jail for this activity, Looser.
9. reflects political corruption at top
Marcel ,   Florida   (10.16.07)
The decay of israel's political establishment is having a trickle down effect. Since there is no accountablity at the top with corrupt leadership ,the example brings rebellion within the ranks.
10. RIGHT YOU ARE #1...................................
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (10.16.07)
AT YNET SOPHOMORIC YELLOW JOURNALISM REIGNS ! THAT HAVING BEEN SAID,WHEN A SOLDIER THROWS DOWN HIS WEAPON EN MASS THERE IS I BELIEVE AN ARGUMENT FOR THE WORD (UPRISING) BUT, ONE SHOULDN'T FORGET WHERE YOU SAW IT ! AS I AM COMPULSIVE WITH MY COVETING OF TRUTH,I THINK YOU CAN FIND A BETTER EXAMPLE.
11. TRANSFER THEIR COMMASNDING OFFICERS
stude ham   (10.16.07)
The incident described is anything but the type of activity for which anyone be jailed. It is a clear symptom of incompetent superiors resorting to excessive abuse of their authorities. The consequences are also clearly very symptomatic of the inability of the commanding officers to properly get along with their subordinates. The commanding officers need to be transferred and re-trained. They're too abusive and caught up in their authority.
12. to #6 Golanchik
אושרי   (10.16.07)
you are right - you need to be an extra special ars to wave the green and yellow flag viva golani! viva bat yam! viva golani! viva kiryat gat!
13.  the commander who lost Shalit is promoted
eddie ,   london UK   (10.16.07)
14. What happened to ......
Christy ,   Boston, MA   (10.16.07)
.... giving soldiers who act up: latrine duty, scrubbing the floors & walls with toothbrushes, policing (picking up) the compound, no passes for a weekend, run extra miles with a fully loaded pack on back, push ups until it kills the arms with pain,etc.. Soldiers should not act like frat house members, but when they act this way a severe punishment, like 42 and 56 days of jail time, doesn't seem to fit the crime.
15. This is Tzahal 2007? and Tzanchanim?
Karen R ,   USA   (10.16.07)
Kela isn't strong enough. If these guys will do this in peacetime, can they be relied upon in battle? The ones disobeying orders should be dishonorably discharged and denied all benefits. Disobeying orders in a combat unit - and tzanchanim at that - is unbelievable. Whatever happened to "Acharei l'Tzhanchanim?"
16. #5: The guard duty cannot be used is punishment
Damir ,   Russia   (10.16.07)
This is very responsible position. #14 suggestions are more appropriate and effective.
17. Soldiers should remove Olmert from power
Mordechai   (10.16.07)
Now thats an uprising the Jews in Israel will support. The IDF should defend Israels Jews by removing this junta now. Olmert is a criminal who plans on selling the country out to its enemies and then flee to france with his buddy Avram Burg
18. Put the lot of them where they belong,
Helene ,   Israel   (10.16.07)
until they learn to behave.
19. Settle down, over reaction of the worst kind
Yoav Naor ,   Haifa Israel   (10.17.07)
These are elite soldiers, and should be treated as such,so they let off a bit of steam, big bloody deal.Living in a pressure cooker, you need to let off steam once in a while. They could have been punished in a more appropriate manner. Uprising???the person who wrote this article should look up the word. And their commander, has no idea how to deal with his soldiers. Uprising=mutiny, revolt, insurgence, insurrection, revolution, sedition, rebellion, insurgency.
