31. Media ignores Arab theft and vandalism
Ilan ,   Ariel   (10.21.07)
Only a couple of weeks ago 5000 vines were uprooted by a collection of Arabs, Israeli leftists and PA officials. As of yet no arrests despite the fact there were media people there. There are also many cases of theft and vandalism of Jewish agriculture. Just in livestock and in beekeeping the damages runs to 10's of millions of shekels each year. Why the focus on events that in many cases have proven to be provocations by Arabs upon Jews.
32. #29 - how is your math?
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (10.21.07)
Most of the arab countries do not recognize the existence of Israel. Do they need glasses? The truth of the matter is - yes, we do exist. Yes - we came back - and the best and most courageous of us - live in Smaria and Judea... The squatters on our land will eventually leave - to where they came from - the desert ob the Arabia.. This math is as precise as 2+2 = 4

The League of Nations decided to help the Jews recover their homeland which at the time was mostly barren and populated, together with the Jews, with about 60000 non Jews (mostly Christians and non-arabs). The British received the mandate over the land to help facilitate the return of the Jews home. The British proceeded to pay off their Beduin allies by establishing Jordan on most of the Jewish land. In the small part that was left over West of the Jordan river, the British encouraged Arab immigration (mostly from Lebanon and Iraq) and prevented Jewish immigration. Not one Jew of Europe needed to be murdered by the Germans: only the British prevented their escape from Europe to their homeland. The Israeli war of independence was in fact an Arab-initiated war of genocide against the Jews. Although succeeding in some places (Gush Etzion, Atarot, Jerusalem, Beeri, to mention a few), the Arabs failed and Israel was established. No one "stole" Arab land. In the aftermath of WWII there were something like 100 million refugees. The only "refugees" for which special funds and agencies were set up to perpetuate their existence was the Arabs. If you want to make analogies of Whites to Aborigines, it is the Jews who are the Aborigines and the Arabs who are the conquerors. Read the Koran.

eiyahu   (10.21.07)
Look at the poor arab woman crying over.....a beautifully trimmed tree. It is a known thing that every couple of years olive trees have to be trimmed back. Are you accusing the settlers of trimming arab trees?
37. reading the talkbacks
leucippe   (10.21.07)
I wrote the first talkback on this story. checking back now I am even more horrified and disgusted by the posters who deny, deny, deny, and blame the the usual suspects, bleeding heart lefties, etc.. It doesn't matter, does it, even if others do such things. my question stands: where is Jewish morality about theft and vandalism? where is the govt (it won't do to call this one corrupt) and where are the decent Israelis. so once again, shame, shame, shame
38. #33 - why give? you're so use to it.. Work for it!

Personally I don't think that Yesha Jews want to attract negative attention to themselves at this crucial moment, so I believe that these are additional false accusations (very frequent lately). Still, there is something about this exaggerated concern by Jews about the righteousness of their actions, even very minor ones, at a time when they are facing the shrinking of their tiny state and a possible second Holocaust. Read Ruth Wisse's "Jews and Power." Here are two excerpts of reviews of this excellent book: The first one is from the magazine Commentary. "This recurring tendency of Jews, both as individuals and as communities, to pay greater attention to their own moral performance than to the necessities of survival—a tendency Wisse characterizes as “moral solipsism”—is what animates her fascinating, subtle, and immensely learned study. Why, historically, did Jews feel such ambivalence about the acquisition and exercise of political power when they did not have it and were defenseless in the face of their oppressors? And why does that ambivalence persist today, when they do have political power and the measure of safety such power affords? http://www.commentarymagazine.com/viewarticle.cfm?id=10928 And an excerpt from the Jerusalem Post review: These days, those who prefer to obsess about Israel's inability to achieve an impossible moral perfection rather than about its foes' intentions may find themselves applauded by Jewish and non-Jewish audiences. But given that Israel is a state still marked for death by Iranian mullahs who may soon have nuclear weapons, Palestinian terrorists and a new generation of Western anti-Semites who masquerade as humanists, the triumph of such views is a luxury Jews cannot afford." http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1189411459860&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull So reserve your indignation for the real important threats facing Israel instead of contorting in agony over a possible - and I stress possible - act by Jews against Arab trees.

41. Litani, you are pathetic!
Joyce ,   Adam   (10.22.07)
Each year during EVERY season the harsh events carried out by Palestinians attacking settlers, and each year security officials repeatedly assure they will do their utmost to prevent such attacks. However, both the Jewish settlers and arab terrorists know how "serious" these assurances are. The land of Chelm
