1. learn lessons about using arab MKs to give away Israel
unspeakable damage ,   caused by left media   (10.24.07)
2. Hang Amir
eddie ,   london UK   (10.24.07)
I dont like Amir, and i didnt support Rabin's policies. However, had Amir nor committed murder, Rabin was a political loser at the time, and was doing badly in the polls - he would have been voted out of office. Instead, Amir gave life to the left wing process and a sympathy vote to Peres. What an idiot - hang him!
3. Apologist for a legacy of failure.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.24.07)
What a pathetic attempt to justify a totally failed policy. So, what is Rabin's legacy? Where are the details of the "successes" of that policy? I mean, it's terrible that he was assassinated but why does his murder change our objective analysis of his policies? How do you know how Rabin would have reacted to events? Maybe he would have been honest enough to admit it was a mistake? The whole Oslo process was shoved down our collective throats in a most un-democratic manner just as disengagement was sold under false premises while today we have a PM with a 3% approval rating negotiating away our future security for his own political self-interest. Because of our dysfunctional political system, the Israeli electorate who in their vast majority, repudiate these policies, are unable to rid ourselves of a political elite that does not represent their interests. Instead, we are getting another kind of incitement - an attempt by a marginalized minority of leftists desperate to hang on to power to slander those who disagree with them by manipulating the media to portray them as "far right-wing wild-eyed extremists" - a portrayal that is far from accurate. There exists a small minority of extremists on the right - I daresay, probably as many as there are extremists on the left. But the vast majority in the center do not support the current peace process & Rabin's "legacy".
4. Angry? yes - but at whom
OS ,   Israel   (10.24.07)
Rabin's legacy and his life was not one of peace - his legacy was one of divisiveness, fostering hate among Israelis, especially those on the right, those that did not see things his way. He was the man who murdered other Jews on the Altalena because their politics were not his. Do not idolize him because he was murdered. The murder was wrong - but just because he was killed does not make Rabin a great man. The best thing he did was own up to some faults and resign when his wife's dollar account was uncovered - since the account was illegal at the time. Today's politicians can learn that from him - and they should resign. But he was not a saint and it's about time we stop trying to make him into one.
5. Rabin legacy
Marc Tobin ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (10.24.07)
It is a truely a shame that Rabin was assinated and Yigal Amir does deserve to spend his life in jail, however the glorification of Rabin needs to stop at some point. His tragic mistake of endorsing the Oslo framework and not stopping it when the PLO violated the accords is one of the worst diplomatic moves in my opinion. He sold Oslo to the Israeli public based on the fact that if Arafat violated the acords he would stop the process. Well he lied and totally destroyed the Israeli deterence and the collective psyche. His approval rating at the time of the assination was very low, and he was far behind in all polls. Let's not make him out to saint. Plus he had so little regard for anyone who did not toe his line. He was as devise and inciteful as his opponents. Let's also not foreget, the great zionist fighter and leader, has only one of his two kids living here, the otehr emigrated to the US
6. THE GOLDEN CALF!!!
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.24.07)
Although Aharon, the High Priest was instrumental in the creation of the Golden Calf, he paid a price for it. The Children of Israel always pay a price for denying their heritage and trying to be like all other nations of the world. We still haven't ;earned that lesson. We still reject and deny the veracity and validity of that constitution given at Mount Sinai.
7. #4 You're right about one thing
Aharon   (10.24.07)
Rabin's legacy is one of divisiveness. The divisions between left wing and right wing are not as intense anywhere in the world as they are in Israel, from my own personal experience. Rabin's legacy has been defined not so much by his deeds, but by his assassination by an extreme right winger, which I fear has forever split Israeli society by cementing these intense divisions. We have lost sight of the fact that whether we are left wing, right wing, religious, secular, black, yellow or white, we are ISRAELIS and JEWS living in our homeland! We are BROTHERS! And yet today hatred between Jews because of these ridiculous things is more intense than the hatred that many of our enemies have towards us. I'm sad to say that I believe that the possibility of civil war in Israel's future - not between Jews and Arabs, but between Jews and Jews - appears to me to be increasingly likely. We need a leader who will be strong enough to deal with the issues of equal treatment and equal obligation for all Israeli Jews, and ESPECIALLY the issue of the Haredim. Rabin was not free of blemish - I am sure even his most fervent supporters would agree with you - but he was nonetheless a man who died in service of his country, trying to bring peace to its people. None of our greatest leaders are without blemish: Did Begin not evict Jews from their homes in the Sinai for a peace agreement with Egypt? Rabin's legacy is one of a soldier who died in his war for peace. For this we should honour him, and understand the significance that his murder has had upon our country and its possible implications for our future.

12. #4 Now I am angry..but not at you
Josh   (10.24.07)
Thanks for your intelligent response. I have always been a critic of the cultism they are trying to create around Rabim's death. Those who perpetrate it think that the world cannot see through their use of Rabim as a way to label any oppostion they dont like as similar to the rhetoric that caused his death. Its a load of BS as one lone individual with extreme ideals tookl it upon himself. They think their hedging the future by messing with the minds of the children using Rabbim. They are making a mistake. It is a new generation that thinks differently. The youth of today will be more likely to rise agianst a goverment that is so transparent in their manipulations. Before I knew anything I saw the use of his death as a political tool and felt that this is most unsavory way of a political party to silence the oppostion. I had no idea that the political party that was behind making him martyre to silence and label the opposition, was a polictical party that murdered Jews when other options were viable. The statement "He was the man who murdered other Jews on the Altalena because their politics were not his. " I feel was not accurate. Rabim murdered for the blood of it. You dont shoot people in the water fleeing a burning ship if they are unarmed. Especially if you have them surrounded. I wonder if this same political establishement is the one that makes Jews rent the land rather than owning it. Either way, thank you for your intelligent comments. Rabim never should have become a leader with a recod like that. He should have been imprisoned longer than his killer. Rabins killer should be freed on the merits that Rabim was a multiple count of murderer.
13. Agree with #8
Garry ,   Boston, USA   (10.24.07)
Why celebrate Rabin? He was a weak guy (did what Arafat and Peres told him to do). He gave arms to Arafats people and they begun killing Jews. He made so many mistakes and so many people are dead, Jews and Arabs, because of his mistakes. He had shown to the world what terror can do if you give terrorists weapons.
14. I agree with #12
Stuart ,   Israel someday   (10.25.07)
Amir committed murder and was punished. But I'm angry about someone else's legacy. Rabin was a murderer many times over - he killed unarmed JEWS fleeing a burning ship. He sold the discredited concept of exchanging land for peace with those that do not want peace. He brought Arafat back to Israel after the terrorist was expelled from Lebanon. He armed the terrorists with the guns used to kill Jews. Rabin's legacy was continued by Sharon and Olmert turning the IDF against Jews - again - followed by giving even more guns to terrorists. Yeah, there's a legacy I'm angry about.
15. How about anger to the victims of oslo?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.26.07)
Over a thousand dead.Thousands wounded. And we forget them! Daily kassam and mortar attacks on Sderot, arming terrorists, expelling Jews from their homes, giving legitimacy to arafat and abu abbass. That is the legacy. A government of cowards and the country placed in danger. That is the legacy of saint yitzhak.
16. Rabins Legacy
Sean ,   Derry, Ireland   (10.26.07)
His legacy lies in the flattened ruins of the Palestinian towns and villages he ordered raised and the hundreds of dead Palestinians he ordered killed and in the collective memory of the 70,000 palestinians he ordered out of Lydda and Ramleh. Some legacy indeed !
