1. Question
Yosef ,   Tel Aviv   (10.29.07)
Yesterday there was a strike of Israeli taxpayers and veterans who suffer from Alzheimers. The government says there is no money to buy medicine to treat them. Where does Israel get money to treat these Palestinians?
2. Medical care
Talula ,   Israel   (10.29.07)
Very sad, but it's just not our fault or our problem.
3. They can go to Egypt for care.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.29.07)
We Jews are the biggest suckers in the world. Does anyone think they would do the same for us? There is zero reciprocity. The same people who come here for medical treatment would like to see our country destroyed. Let me ask a hypothetical question - where are the Israeli Arabs? Why don't they pay for medical treatment for their "brother" Arabs? They could set up a fund. Isn't that what we would do? But of course, that's not going to happen since the Jewish taxpayer is around to foot the bill. It's very nice to be a humanitarian but implicit in the idea of humanitarianism is fairness & reciprocity. When those two elements are not present, you're not a humanitarian, you're just a sucker.
4. Have the Saudis pay.
Micha   (10.29.07)
less money for shipping out wahabism and starting new evil madrassas. I want to see arab kindness for once. Where is it? Where are you hateful talkbackers who criticize Israel to no end? I've noticed they're dried up.
5. palestinains practice collective punishment on themselves
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.29.07)
if anyone didn't believe that palestinains relish the attention and suffering in order to claim "victimization", what more proof do you need?
6. Where's the media now?
Petra ,   usa   (10.29.07)
The Pals jump on every media for attention when it suits their purpose. Why not scream from the highest roof that these Pals are being neglected by their own? Amazing, they readily step up for terror but, can't find Drs in their own area? Amazing. Very callous very cold. The world should see this and reexamine the thought process.
7. My Heart Bleeds Qassams For Them
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (10.29.07)
To quote our sages: "One who is merciful to the cruel will end up being cruel to the merciful."
8. politics and medicine
jo moor   (10.29.07)
All the responses above have very valid points. It is sad that politics enters the medical treatment arena. However, since they (arabs) deny the existence of Israel until now, surely the logical destination for their ill requiring treatment would be Egypt, Jordan, Saudi etc. But ,no! they trust Israeli Doctors and their setup better (and I suppose they think they would get it for free) since they would probably have to pay up front for their brethren to treat them. Read Briggite Gabriel's "Because they hate us" for a personal handson experience of Israeli medical care.
9. I wish American hospitals could refuse to treat patients
Rivkah   (10.29.07)
if Mexico and other countries of origin of the illegals and resident alien poor refuse to pay the bills. Those countries would laugh at such bills before shredding them. AT LEAST ISRAELI HOSPITALS have an option for avoiding bankruptcy unlike American hospitals that have to close. Socialized medicine can refuse to treat patients, but private care medicine cannot. That is because of the Hill Burton Act Obligation for treating charity patients at American hospitals. That is a law Israel needs to avoid or the Moslem world will descend en masse on Israeli Hospitals for free care like the poor, the illegals and resident aliens in America do.
10. and they think they are capable of running a country????
Mike ,   Jerusalem   (10.29.07)
11. Palestinians call for boycotts
israeli ,   israel   (10.29.07)
"We, representatives of Palestinian civil society, call upon international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era. We appeal to you to pressure your respective states to impose embargoes and sanctions against Israel. We also invite conscientious Israelis to support this Call, for the sake of justice and genuine peace. " and more of the same: http://www.badil.org/Boycott-Statement.htm and here: http://stopthewall.org/latestnews/1443.shtml and mainly here, an open letter signed by members of the medical profession in the "Occupied Palestinian Territory": http://www.monabaker.com/pMachine/more.php?id=2903_0_1_0_M What can I say, dear doctors, nurses, paramedics etc in the OPT, if you left politics aside for a minute, and concentrated a bit more on providing care for your sick, your patient would not be banging on our door for proper medical treatment. I am a "conscientious Israeli", and therefore strongly urge the Palestinians, healthy or in need of medical attention to abide by the boycott!!! And while you are at it, do it right: http://www.israpundit.com/2006/?p=3200
12. The reason the law requires treatment in the US is because
jack ,   richmond, va us   (10.29.07)
to deny treatment until payment is assured would result in most people being denied treatment. What happens if you don't have your insurance card? What happens if you are unconscious and the administrators can't find your insurance card? Perhaps everyone should carry a credit card with an unlimited balance. It is stupid to deny medical care to those in need. Adverse health conditions tend to spread. I have always found it a concern when I travel that I might be in a country where proof of payment must come before medical services are rendered. A nation is truly bankrupt if proof of payment takes precedent over life or limb. Animals are treated better.
13. Palis. leaders' treat Palis. badly ..
Christy ,   Boston, US   (10.30.07)
The Palis. leaders have received multiple millions of dollars, FOR YEARS, from the UN, US, EU, etc.. They have not built facilities nor set aside funds for medical treatment for Palis. citizens. This is obscene. As far as I'm concerned the Palis. leaders treat their citizens like dirt to be walked over. Israel at least does try and help ordinary palis. far more than their leaders do. How can people demand a state when their leaders can't even provide basic infrastructure and services?
