I once thought that the so-called National-Religious ideology was to firm up the authority of the State-affiliated Israeli Chief Rabbinate. The rulings of that body, and particularly of the Chief Rabbis themselves, were the final word in Halacha.
So I thought.
I also thought that the concept of "Jewish unity" was of highest importance.
So I thought.
From the workings of Tzohar, it seems that either I was very wrong or that this population, too, holds by its own ideology only when they are in control.
So I think.
