1. So let me get it strait
Avi ,   Israel   (11.11.07)
We now have less 40 people that pray to God 24 a day? wouldn't God be upset? Aren't we led to believe that God needs this constant reading of the same book to boost his ego? What are we to do now?
2. We hope
World Citizen   (11.11.07)
We hope, Avi. We hope that all the future wars of Israel will be fought between Sunday and Friday......
3. "Dropped out of Yeshiva"
Aharon   (11.11.07)
Well, while I'm happy that these men are serving like the rest of us, what exactly is the big deal? If they've dropped out of Yeshiva they can't be exempt on the grounds of Torah Study (which is a ridiculous exemption anyway), meaning they would have to serve regardless. What I want to see is Haredim, who HAVENT dropped out of Yeshiva, serving the FULL LENGTH, just like every other REAL citizen of the country.
4. For a change..a nice postive article about Haredim!
Miriam ,   Israel   (11.11.07)
5. what ever next
Simon ,   TA Israel   (11.11.07)
What ever next? They will be getting jobs, paying taxes, contributing to society, No time for attacking females on buses or buring tyres. Does Eli Yishai know about this?
6. G'od bless them!
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (11.11.07)
They will do their job with more conviction than anyone else. It is very meritory they have taken this step. About "permissiveness",I think the Rabbis should not worry-the guys have already a strong set of values to know for them selves what is right and what is wrong .
7. #3 the best to drop their flying machines,
(11.11.07)
they have vast experience in dropping.
8. Haredim taking over!
Enemy of State ,   Judea   (11.11.07)
Help!! Now Haredim are taking over the air force!!! Stop them before they take over the rest of the country, or Israel will become like Iran!!! Isn't that right, Tel Avivim?
9. #1 Your

11. To all those...
Andy ,   Raanana   (11.11.07)
To all those who join the armed forces "col ha kavod" !!!! Don't listen to #1 - no matter what the religious do - he HATES!!!!! Wish there were more like you 40!!!! Wecome to Israel!!!!
12. gentlemen and scholars
Steve   (11.11.07)
These men serve as a shining example to their community. I am sure God commends their noble service as well. As for the rabbis who find this objectionable , in the words of Moses:STFU!
13. armour
zichron   (11.11.07)
have the rabbis forgotten lithuania and poland how the evil monster barbarians destroyed the defenseless righteous .
14. Behatslachah to you 40!
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.11.07)
15. #8 No, that's not right
Aharon   (11.11.07)
If only the rest of those leeches saw fit to serve
16. Lifelong job skills
Suncountry ,   U.S.   (11.11.07)
I read about a study of business owners and managers in the U.S. who said the people they like to recruit the most are people with military service and mechanical type training (high tech or low tech). And that is in the U.S. where not so many people choose to do military service. So think what a benefit it is to Israel that everybody (now including these folks!) are trained up! An excellent competitive benefit for the country!!
17. Fantastic!! They can be a model for others!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (11.11.07)
18. the only peopel complaining are...
eddie ,   london Uk   (11.11.07)
the Haredim.. they dont want their followers to ever have a chance of earning an honest living

Rivkah   (11.11.07)
we gonna keep 'em down on the farm, after they've seen Broadway!?" Notice the street in New York City with a lot of theaters is called Broadway instead of Narroway. The Bible says a little evil destroys much good. So it is a danger to expose the Haredim to temptations they are protected from, but for the defense of the nation it is necessary. Hopefully, but the age of the draft, the Haredim are sufficiently strengthened with the goodness of the Torah to better resist temptation than others. But getting them back to Yeshivas after they have see the Broad Way and become addicted to vices may be a problem.
20. Was that an army profile or Yeshiva medical profile?
meir elazar   (11.11.07)
This story reads like a sequel to Gene Wilder's "Rabbi Avraham B'ma-arav Ha-paru-ah" (USA "Frisco Kid") where Wilder graduates 81st out of a class of 79 in the Yeshiva in Poland. Just as Wilder and the Amish address each other "Lansman!", the Nahal Haredi will see the other group and address them in similar fashion only to realize that they are a bit different. In the End Wilder makes it to San Francisco. And today we know that San Francisco also made it to the end. A bit of a queer tale at that, I guess. I just hope that flight insurance rates for Israeli pilots doesn't rise too sharply.
21. IDF rabbinates demands: none at all
Jewboy ,   Jerusalem   (11.19.07)
the standard of the IDF rabbinate is so low that such a program offers its victims no guarantees at all that they will not be fall prey to sexual harassment, as Hareidim define such Trauma. A sad group of guinea- pigs
22. #19 Rivkah -- The song is "How we gonna keep 'em down on...

the farm, when they've seen gay Paree." e.g. "Paris" (A lot of farm boys went off to World War I and saw Paris. And "gay" had its original meaning back then.)
