Author of this article don't know real situation in East Europe where Holocaust survivors did not get any support , restitutiion and compensation until fall of Berlin wall and even now they are not second but third class of survivors because the have smallest amount of pension and support. Did they suffer less in concentration camps than Jews who live in USA ,West countries and Israel, They lived in very difficult circumstances all the time and for sure their suffering in Holocaust has not been recognized till now and for sure they have consequence till now. I think that author of article is not authorized to speak in the name of all Jews- - children Holocaust survivors. I am not in favour of asking new compensation I am speaking about the same treatment of Holocaust survivors whenever they live now and this is not only decision for Claims but also for German goverment.

We, along with the Brits killed millions of native Americans, stole all their land, and paid them nothing, not even one memorial exists. The current generation of tax payers in Germany have absolutely nothing to do with what fanatics did in the second world war. They cannot be held responsible for it, ant therefore have no obligation whatsoever to pay compensation to holocaust survivors. David G is correct. Why should my generation pay for something we did not do. If Israel took 1% off its defence budget, that should give a livable pension to the remaining survivors. And the children of victims suing for psychological trauma is ridiculous. That amounts essentially to a generation who did not murder having to pay a generation that was not murdered.

Actually the US also owes the survivors. The US Air Force didn't bomb a certain railway bridge leading to Auschwitz in 1944. There is a Federal law suit which requires the US taxpayers pay $40 billion compensation beginning to make its way through the courts a we speak. Now if US tax payers had enough nerves to demand back all the money that they have sent to Israel every year for the last 60 years that would be Chutzpah.

Let's not forget Merkel's abhorrent display of abject self- and national-abasement during her recent Israel trip, where she spoke of the "shame" most Germans still feel for what happened decades ago. Recent opinion polls contradict her assertion. Does she have any idea of the damage her words do to the German national psyche? One can be pardoned for questioning her motives. It's time to let Germans be proud again. They had a long, glorious history prior to WWII, and have every right to reclaim it.
