So why do you bother reading ynet and expressing your opinions on Israeli matters? Shouldn't you spend your free time and energy on American matters and forget about the Jewish homeland?

Judah, I would be interested in what kind of job you have, and how you managed to get one. I am glad you were able to be a successful oleh (most aren't because there is no work available over 3000 shekels per month). Did you have connections to get work beforehand? Could you share with the readers the secret to your success? I am totally serious.
9. Wooooohooooo!

Give 'em hell, Gal! If they don't treat you well at home, you can come to my house. (Gawd, I'm too old for all this excitement and panting.)
10. Unless It Learns, It Will Be Repeated
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (11.12.07)
The Winograd Commission should have investigated the Lebanese fiasco, starting from day 1 and ending when the shooting stopped. What the heck is all the complaining about anyway? It should find out who gave the go ahead; what were the tactics for the perceived enemy's defenses; where were the faults in the attack; why were 50,000 reservists needed; what did they hope to accomplish; what was the objective of the war if need to get the men released quickly; was there any hope for their release; did the US/UN dictate the war aims and strategy; and was anything achieved. How come there was no overall policy re: Lebanon? I am still waiting for the results. There is too much politics in Israel and too many indians. Israel must learn from it's mistakes, both with the disengagement AND the Lebanese war, or it will repeat them. Hez now has missiles that can reach south of Tel Aviv, and Hamas is stronger by the day. Something is terribly wrong there.

(11.12.07)
somebody who would say something so stupid about a man with the courage to speak out - you big American coward. This is about saying what has to be said, taking back his life from the lazy slobs who ran the show during the war. We will all be gamurim if we don't listen to this man.

15. when plans are deplorable, one must have a bank account in
Rivkah   (11.12.07)
heaven to fall back on. Exodus 15:3 says the Lord is a man of war. Ariel Sharon was at times the lone survivor or military operations. Why? He had a bank account in heaven. Even the ELS Bible codes say "Hashem loves A(riel) Sharon". What did he do like King David as a youth that pleased the Lord and protected him when the Lord did not protect others? David loved the Lord and read the scriptures and had a heart like God's heart. The bible says the heart is desperately wicked, so what does that mean? To be a man after God's own heart does not refer to the blood pump in the chest. It refers to the head of the penis which is heart shaped. David struggled desperately against masturbation and fornication. Micah 2:1 describes what most young men do in their beds, working iniquity with their hands in the morning. David struggled not to do that and prayed when God enlarged him (his penis enlarged and caused him to struggle against the temptation of desire).
16. If soldiers want supernatural protection, they need to try
Rivkah   (11.12.07)
to be more like King David was in his youth. Try to follow the Ten Commandments and consider Micah 2:1 in the Authorized King James Bible describes what young men do in the morning with their hands that is iniquity to the Lord. Psalms describes young David's struggles not to masturbate. Exodus 15:3 says the Lord is a man of war, so this is important in a profession of warfare and national defense. Psalms 4:1 says that when God "enlarged" David in the context of engorging his penis with blood to test him, DAVID PRAYED for the LORD to relieve his distress. That is tough to do. But the man's penis is for urinating (peeing) and sexual intercourse with a legal wife. A wife can play with her husband's sexual parts, but the man should refrain from doing that.
17. another service to the nation if Gal brings reform of IDF
dante ,   uk   (11.12.07)
it's clear that the IDF suffered from a surplus of desk jockey generals who were more interested in, and knew more about, their perquisites and privileges than about fighting. it is imperative that the IDF be rid of the dead wood-slacker-bureaucrats who have nothing to offer the IDF or the nation. Israel does not have the luxury of supporting parasites such as these anywhere, most especially in the IDF.

Little Miss Muffett ,   Sitting on a Tuffett   (11.12.07)
22. #18 So blonde shiksa ...
Josh   (11.12.07)
...do you believe it? :) Poor, poor, David.
23. Rivkah
Yisraeli   (11.12.07)
Thats what christianity and jesus worshipping does, it warps the brain and all truth. Kol Hakavod to Gal, Ive been saying this a long time now that the upper echelon of the army are just jobniks of the leftist regime. the last war proved it. For those of you that asked why he didnt coment when he was in the army, He cant, you cant when in uniform. hence the reason why politics have to be removed from the army.
24. it is personal
lili ,   jerusalem   (11.12.07)
in any comunity when evrything is personal the links will be spoiled and the opposit is true when the links is spoiled evrything will be personal
25. Gal Hirsch
David ,   Haifa   (11.12.07)
I am sure that every word that Mr Hirsch said yesterday is true. Still, he is not in the best position to start casting stones, given the many mistakes and problematic decisions that he made himself during the war. He should leave that job to other experts and generals ( res. ).
26. Gal Hirsh
chana ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.12.07)
Finally, a soldier who reads the situation as is. We better listen before it's too late. Enough damage, enough loss of life. Israel must survive.
27. Harry in chul, and getting a job (offtopic)
JPS ,   Efrat   (11.12.07)
Harry - most olim do have jobs. I'm been in Israel over 20 years and don't know many anglo olim who are unemployed. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but the secret to success is education and training in fields where there are jobs. And that's everything from retail sales and marketing to garage mechanics to high tech. Remember that high tech is computer programming geeks, AND technicians, AND accounting people, AND secretaries, AND human resources people, AND drivers, AND shippers, AND factory workers.... Harry, find out what you're good at, find out what job sectors in Israel pay more than minimum, go do some job training, and then make aliya again. There are LOTS of jobs.
28. #9 M. Hartley
(11.12.07)
Honey, you're never too old. In fact, you might want to consider a visit to Israel because there are a lot more where he came from.
29. He is right and he is wrong
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (11.12.07)
Gal Hirsch's criticism about the military establishment and the High Command is justified as are is comments on the political influences in the army and the decision making process. Brigadier General (ret) Gal Hirsch was a first class commander but he was the man on the spot when Hezbollah attacked, our troops killed and Udi Golwasser and Eldad Regen abducted. Whether the High Command failed to take the right decision is moot but he should have used his initiative as a divisional commander. In most countries a divisional commander is a major general and as such has more authority than a brigadier general but be that as it may he did not act. For this he is accountable. The IDF has been totally revamped and heads rolled as did his and that is a fact of life. Competent and experienced officers are now running the show and Gal Hirsch will just have to be content with that. It is sad but Israel is not a forgiving country when it comes to military failures.
30. Gal Hirch I'm glad someone had the guts.
vicky ,   ashkelon israel   (11.12.07)
You are right, todays soldier seems to think he's only playing with his action man. If you cant support your unit and think only of yourself what hope is left for us. The MK's only ever think of themselves, we need someone who can be our Joshua and Gideon.
