Thank God the Algerian PM has condemned his patently false remarks and inidicated a positive reception for Sarkozy. May Algerian-French ties warm up and perhaps Jews worlwide will come for tourism and business to Algeria in the future as the trust deepens.

A Muslim politician makes an anti-Semitic remark...and people are surprised? However, Prime Minister Bouteflika certainly deserves praise for his response.

Where is the problem? As as French Jew, I agree with what the Minister has said. Where is the problem in supporting a fellow Jew? I know many Jewish people who switched sides and voted for Sarko 'cause they believe he will support us better and he is against Iran and the WMD and he is supporting Israel. In fact prominent French Jews such as Enrico Massias (French singer of Jewish origin (pied noir)) said on state television that he did not have a problem switching side and supporting Sarko because he is Jewish and will support the cause of Les Pieds Noir. So please, stop this knee jerk reaction and stop using 'Anti Antisemitism' right, left and center as it render a powerful word meaningless. I am sure that if this minister was living in France and a French Presidential candidate was of Algerian origin, he will certainly support him (or won't he?)

First of all, if it was his mother's grandfather who was Jewish, that doesn't make her Jewish, so neither is he unless you apply the standard of patrilineal descent. But the point is that this minister dredged up the usual canard about Jews controlling the world and that's what made his comment racist.

What boggles Arabs minds is not Jewish influance in Europe but in the USA. And what they do not understand is that the strong Israeli prefference is not because of the small Jewish population, indeed there are more Muslims in the USA than Jews now, but from the born again Christian fraction of the population.
