1. Israel needs to do more to develop its arms market
zionist forever   (12.11.07)
Israel doesnt do enough to develop its arms business. The merkava tank officialy the merkava 3 is avalible for export but no efforts are ever made to export things like tanks and it can equal most of the other modern tanks on the market like Abrams and Chalenger 2. Instead its shown off as some kind of display piece to say look what we are capble of making but we dont sell. Drones, air to air missles, radar and small arms iis nothing when some of the other weapons it develops could be big sellers if they were marketed right. The IDF should also sell old equipment to poorer countries that want western made weapons but cant afford brand new they could they use profits to buy new. Why put 2 merkava 1 in storage when you could sell them buy 1 brand new merkava 4 for current use. Now it has 3 new dolphin submarines the navy has found themselves with 3 old subs from the 70s but there has been no talk of selling them to buy either another dolphin or some other kind of ship. With older jets sell them use the profits to buy new. Upgrades have their role to play but simply putting things into storage is a waste of recources and money. The arms exporters & government need to get together start looking at what else they make but dont sell and the IDF needs to rethink its policies of keeping weapons indefeatly. The arabs are not using Soviet rubbish anymore today they use many of the same western weapons that Israel does so if it wants to stay ahead of the game needs to get rid of the aging stock and use the money to buy modern.
2. This article has interesting timing.
Gidon ,   Modiin   (12.11.07)
During Hanukka where the small hashmonai family and not a big army defeated the massive emperior we have our country selling so much arms. I guess they realize what our main strength is and therefore can afford to sell the weapons.

8. Speaking of arms exports reminds me of the theory that
Rivkah   (12.12.07)
Princess Diana was executed because she was making headway in getting land mines banned. Adnan Kashogi, the biggest arms dealer at the time of her death in 1996, was the uncle of Diana's escort Dodi Al Fayed. To throw off suspicion on the Arabs for her death, Dodi was killed, too.
9. #7
israeli ,   israel   (12.12.07)
we would like to sell technology, medicine, know-how and such, but Palestinians call for boycotts all the time. Besides, it's not that we are forcing arms down anyone's throats, you know. Besides, I wonder who No 1 is. The USA perhaps? Like in SF-CA USA?
