The article citing racism on he subway train in New York City is disturbing on the one hand, but on the other it is heartening that a young Muslim lad would put his own life at risk and intercede on behalf of the Jewish youths celebrating Hannukah. I sincerely feel that this good samaritan should be cited by the Mayor of NYC as the recipient of an award as being a hero and a positive example to the citizens of my place of birth and the world at large.

This guy is a good example of not turning away from someone in trouble. Of the attackers motivation's I'm unsure, but their actions were really far from typical. Some possibilities are that they could have been drunk, doing drugs or even part of a white supremacist organization. In any case it's not good and it puts us all in danger.
64. Subway attack
Chana ,   Israel   (12.13.07)
If they were riding the subway on Shabat, then maybe the attackers didn't know they were Jewish, and so innocently wished them a Merry Xmas. Not that I don't condem the beating.

and the second paragraph, it is spelled out, Hassan Askari. Do you neglect to read this article?
66. Good Samaritan? Snap qiz, what was his name?

There should be millions more like this young man, from wherever he comes from.
67. #60 - you're kidding, right?
Bread   (12.14.07)
so i guess you think the less-observant among us aren't really jews? what does riding on the subway on shabbat have to do with it? so they deserved to be attacked because they aren't jewish enough for you? so sad to see this type of message in a string that is actually heartening in that the news is all positive.
68. Attack on the Q Train
David ,   Brooklyn   (12.14.07)
Some corrections: 1. The victims did not say Happy Chanukah to the perps. One couple said it to the other couple. 2. Ironically the victims were not Jewish (by halacha), however the perps are Jewish (Jewish mothers) 3. The crime occured on Shabbos. The victims were attending a Russian language Chanukah party in Brighton Beach. 4. The perps all live in the largely Jewish section of Midwood, with one actually living in my apartment building.
69. The victims were half-Jews and so were many of the attackers
intermarriagesucks ,   Canada   (12.14.07)
It just goes to show that in most cases intermarriage creates crazy confused individuals. Stop intermarriage!

Abe, Hi. Thanks for your kind words. Here are some links to some of my writings. They range from linguistic to historical to hysterical to political, etc. It took quite a bit of time to compile this list. If YNET publishes this TB and others are interested, I will compile more. On the other hand, it would be great if YNET had a search function to find TB's of specific authors or be able to search all YNETs articles for anything. Also note that so far YNET does a great job of keeping its articles and TB's. I left Haaretz some time ago for YNET because YNET is much better. Haaretz publications are no longer available after some period of time. Meir Elazar’s Best Posts 1. Arab/Moslem Terror - post #77 http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3477631,00.html 2. # 39 It's 'zij wilden een gevecht' and yes, I would've been cautious, it's 10 to 4 after all and they're not being friendly. # 52 You're correct, I assumed that but it's not in the article and everybody can use this 'blessing'. My mistake. 'Whatever', I don't have a bias against Christians, just against hooligans.
