5. Speak for yourself Rivkah!
(12.17.07)
Pregnancy in itself is work! You are so wrong this time! Maybe you did that during your pregnancies having your co-workers do your work instead of yourself; but the rest of us have to push our weight around plus some. I worked up until the day I went into labor w/ all my three children plus I had to ride the bus to and from work and at times I did'nt always get a sit. I had a very hard time; but when I was at work no one picked up the slack for me.
6. MK Michael Melchior why dont you do some real work
Simon ,   TA Israel   (12.17.07)
Is this what the public pay MK Michael Melchior to do? Is this his achievment so far? Prehaps he should be doing some real work instead of driving to the knesset in his fancvy car , getting a vast wage to come up with "lets rephrase" meternity leave ?
7. What’s wrong with maternity leave?
(12.17.07)
8. maternity break sounds
elliiot ,   point roberts,usa   (12.17.07)
fine to me-they break from doing four jobs to only three jobs...the MK,s who think this language matters are on break from reality.Same old psycho-babble not worthy of the representatives of the People of the Book.A nation like all the others???
9. Try Burst Bubble Syndrome
Vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (12.17.07)
'cause once its burst reality sets in. I could think of better to things to vote on such as Lets have a referendum on changing the Kenneset, starting with 1, All the idiots retire. 2. None of them stand for re-election. 3. WE vote for our President so a traitor cant speak for us.
10. #7, with "maternity leave", nothing
(12.17.07)
but he has a problem with the Hebrew term which has different connotations. It might be better translated "maternity holiday" hence his concern
11. maternity break
sas ,   israel   (12.17.07)
what nonsense is MK Melchior talking about. It's called "maternity leave" and it should be EXTENDED to at least 6 month with salary/
12. Rename ? Extend !!!!
Ezra ,   Canada   (12.17.07)
For example, in Canada, the "parental leave" is 50 paid weeks long to be shared between both parents...
13. i agree- don't our politicians have anything better to do?
sam ,   israel   (12.17.07)
14. building family life too hard for some women
marilyn   (12.18.07)
I know many women who said they went back into public work because they found motherhood just too hard to do but if this crucial 'work' is not done to the best of a mothers love, it has consequences of the health stability of later adults and the deterioration of national .growth.I have also seen households where both parents work outside the home and their male child is utterly lost as he lives on his parents having been robbed of all guidance. Its happened too much to be a coincidence.
15. DEFINITELY A GOOD START!

16. maternity break
sad ,   israel   (12.18.07)
MK Melchior - if you have time to deal with on how to change the term "maternity break" then you really do not belong in the knesset. I think that you can find more urgent matters to use your precious time with. You are not living in Denmark any longer. Maybe you should go back to your family there and deal with such issues...........
17. Maternity holiday
tma   (12.18.07)
Is the translation of the Hebrew hofshat laida, known as maternity leave in North American. The author of the article, or rather, the translator of the article should have pointed out this fact so English speaking readers who don't know Hebrew would understand what the fuss is about. I agree that it's not a vacation to give birth and care for a new baby, neither is raising kids a picnic. There's no end to it. However, the term is used as it's time away from work. Everyone deserves three months following giving birth, regardless of whether or not she cares for the baby herself or has a team of nannies doing it for her. I agree with some talkbackers that women need to stay home longer to nurture their new born babies, however, the companies employing these women, would suffer from the lack of manwork. Where were the days when women stayed home and brought up their children?' Before you attack me, I'm a woman, and I work full time, long, long days. I'd rather be home as my mom was. At least my mom was there when I came home, my poor kids wore a key around their neck at the tender age of 6. I'm so sorry I had to work to make ends meet.

Personally, I could care less about what is in a company's best interest, with regards to maternaty leave, let them hire a temp, lets face it, they have quite enough time to get things in order for a woman to take 6 months to recouperate as well as bond with her baby. Saddly, from my observations many Israeli's place their work and personal lives as a higher priority to their family. If couples are so engorssed in their work and themselves or don't have the money, it's very simple, don't have children. Having a child is a privledge not a right, and the best interests of the child should be paramount. All of that aside, medical reports stipulate that it takes in some cases up to a year for a woman's body to recouperate from giving birth. Personally, I put my health and my family's well being before any company's interest, 3 months or otherwise.
19. maternity leave
Miriam ,   Jerusalem   (12.18.07)
how about trying to extend the maternity leave, instead of changing the name!
20. "Family Leave"
Roee ,   US   (12.19.07)
That's what it is and that's what it should be called.
21. Maternity Break
Ros ,   TA Israel   (12.19.07)
Dedicated essential quality time.
22. to # tma /a word of encouragement

I used to work outside the home, but when I became a Christian, I saw from scripture that God advised us to be 'keepers at home.' So now because I was no longer living to do my will but the will of God, I did it. Well I have had to rely on Gods promises " seek ye first the kingdom and all these other things will be added to you." now that takes faith, the same sort of faith a group of people had to take when they walked out of Egypt into a wilderness area. And in the beginning just like them you feel the restraints of being housebound,[they missed watermelon] so it wasn't easy. Then I had to 'fight' and wrestle with authorities as they make laws to get the women out of their homes, so then I took on the responsibility with Gods help in home schooling my children, and putting God back in every curriculum it had been taken out of. and I felt like Abraham told to come out of a system of his time not knowing where he was going. There had been times when i argued with God is he sure this is what he wants, because each day is a new day and God has never seen us go without. What have I learned, the preciousness of my God and I never want to be without him. Because by him we become like David , able to climb walls and wield the sword of God and slice Leviathan that great big 'lying' monster to pieces. Then I saw a whole Government removed and i asked god would he do that for housewives, and his answer from scripture was " who else , there is no other helper," majority of other women 'believe' in working outside home, men find it easier having two wages, so what other helper do we have except the mighty one.of Israel. So ima you can do it but you need all the faith and courage of your ancestors just to be a mum.
