1. I don't see a problem with the harmless mezuza!
Lev Bronshtein ,   Moscow, Russia   (12.20.07)
The problem lies with Peace Now... We, in Russia, would deal quite swiftly with the traitors like Oppenheimer! I think the lessons of CHEKA (Emergency Comission) needs to be thought to my Israel brothers. Deal with your enemies without mercy; settle the land - and than you will be able to enjoy peace and quiet...! With brotherly love, Lev
2. Adsurd.... Mezuzots don't harm anyone!
Richard ,   London, UK   (12.20.07)
Whoever objects a mezuza should be expelled from the Jewish Homeland!
3. Jewish inhabitants of Hevron are the bravest
real Shir ,   Finland   (12.20.07)
and most deserving people of all... Hevron is our ancient capital - and swine like Oppenheimer shouldn't be listened to.... Build and settle the land.. Even in my frozen country - the only thought of the Jewish communities expanding - makes me feel so warm.... Kol Hakavod to all the Jewish inhibitants of Hevron!
4. Ugly MOFOs!
Edith Fan   (12.20.07)
Are all Israelies this ugly?
5. This Oppenheimer is a trully tormented demented individual!!
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (12.20.07)
Since when participating in a Jewish cerimony of placing a Mezuzah is a political act? These guys are Jews!!!!!! These guys are in Jewish lands, conquered and reconquered;bought and rebought;and given by G'od also! They are working in an inospite area where a little friendship is fundamental to survive.Or should they be robots? If there will be any trial in this case,I will be sure we are in dangerous ,very dangerous bandits hands.I mean ,the govern of Israel! (not that I didn't know already) PS Every one of this soldiers has lost at least one relative in 1967 ,conquering this land. That war was started not by them, but by the governmet of that time ,pushed by arabs, and of course it was compulsory the obligation to fight.THEY HAD TO CONQUER THAT LAND! Why are they being punished now for obeying?
6. #4
dave ,   haifa   (12.20.07)
who u calling a mofo exactly?
7. Lies and slander.. all you ignorant anti semites..
Elchonon ,   Chevron   (12.20.07)
Oppenheimer, Cohen and Vilan, You are such pathertic excuses, I am not sure if I should laugh or cry.. Your automatic hatefull settler / judaism responses would be funny if not for the fact that your talking from your behind... See geniuses.. youve never actualy been here.. you champion the cause of the arabs here in a place youve never seen. This was done in the avraham avinu neighberhood in a closed off entrance that is used by the army to exit the casabah and jewish visitorrs on shabbat. Your sickening thugish mindset is beyond shocking.. a army thats not allowed to affix mezuzot and be involved in politix is supposed to evict jews from their homes eh ? what conflict of interest right? The casbah was full of jews before these arab butchers murderd the hebron jews and chased them away.. you can take the shabbat tour and see the fixtures where mezuzot once sat.. I am sick of your lies and hypocysy.. I never supported taking over arab property.. but if you can help the arabs keep their stolen jewish property.. I am all for "tit for tat" Remember that next time you scream about the settlers stealing arab property.. we in hebron know what we own and what the arabs stole..
8. True Heroes!
Shelly ,   Sderot   (12.20.07)
9. Mezuzah an act of war?
Sol ,   LA   (12.20.07)
10. Bunch of Chicken-Littles
Christy ,   Boston, US   (12.20.07)
Jeesh, with all the to-do about affixing a mezuzah, you'd think it was the harbinger of the End Of Days. It's a harmless mezuzah ... NOT a bomb. It won't hurt anyone. If anything, it may bring blessings to people. The people who are getting all upset about this remind me of Chicken Little running around screaming that the SKY IS FALLING! Since Peace Now has so much free time, why don't they put it to better use and help stop the rocket attacks? My opinion is that anywhere in Hebron a Rabbi places a mezuzah, is a great place for one to be! This is HEBRON, after all!
11. Hebron is a holy JEWISH city!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.20.07)
The arabs are trespassing on sacred Jewish land,a holy Jewish city. The leftist care more about islam than they do about Judaism. Col. Fox is another candy ass officer that we did not have years ago. Back then the I.D.F. cared more about defending Jews and to hell with the enemy.
12. I believe all ....
David ,   USA / ISRAEL   (12.21.07)
I believe all religious soldiers should leave the military and not enlist anymore , let those on the left and the seculars defend the country, beginning with Olmert sons and every hypocrite one in the government What a bunch of losers,
13. actually
israeli ,   israel   (12.21.07)
The race is on for the Meretz No. 1, since Beilin has announced he is not running any more. So this is how Cohen and Vilain are competing for a few votes. As for Oppenheimer, he is a foreign agent - he is being paid by foreing governments to damage the State of Israel. Well done, boys! keep up the good work and pray that the crocodile will eat you last!
14. Mezuzah
Hilda ,   US   (12.21.07)
Where is the outrage when you see houses now occupied by Arabs with the holes where the mezuzah was ripped off the doorposts of houses that were stolen from Jews in 1929 after the Arabs killed or drove off the owners?
15. Muslims can build mosques anywhere on earth
Ora ,   Jerusalem   (12.21.07)
...including in Israel. So why can't Jews put up a mezuzah in Hevron, especially in a historically Jewish neighborhood? Ignore Peace Now--they're a bunch of desperate foreign provocateurs with nothing useful to say on the matter.
16. deport the traitor oppenheimer
jack bauer   (12.21.07)
he says"Peace Now issued a statement calling for Rabbi Peretz and the soldiers who participated in the ceremony to stand trial." WTF he is the one that should be standing trial for treason, money laundering, defamation, liable, and a host of other things oppenheimer is a joke, and bring shame on jewish people..... he should openly confess his conversion to islam
17. #2 Richard, thanks dude, I didn't expect that
(12.21.07)
18. To the IDF Rabbi in the uniform : -)~
ben ,   singapore   (12.21.07)
Dear Rabbi, you performed a commandment. You are not a law breaker but indeed Hanukkah for the Jewish People. Hashem is with you and the IDF boys and girls ( not forgetting -also the gays be salvaged and redeemed ) and the blessings I pronounce over you and over their generations to come..Shalom, Shalom Shalom. :- ) ~ ben singapore
19. Oppenheimer
Rabbi Yakov Lazaros ,   USA   (12.21.07)
Maybe Oppenheimer should eat less chazer than he would not be so offended by putting up a Mezuzah.
20. Peace Now under investigation
Rabbi Lazaros ,   USA   (12.21.07)
Peace Now is currently under investigation for receiving illegal contributions from Britain, Norway, and Findland to spy on West Bank activites. Thats immoral, not putting up a Mezuzah!
21. protection
chaim ,   miami beach usa   (12.21.07)
What I am confused about is, what is the whole hula bahoo about identifying Israel as being Jewish when a small piece of parchment that contains writing from the actual source of all modern religious beliefs that is attached to a door frame creates such a negative outcry and requires a “Full investigation by the head of the IDF, and to find the “Appropriate” punishment for the Jewish believers in having God as their protector instead of rabid haters of anything to do with Jewish customs.. But what rankles me more is Jewish Israel, turns a blind eye to the deliberate desecration of known Jewish Holy sites and a deaf ear to anti Jewish venom spewed out the mounts of sworn murderers from the most holy place in the entire world to the JEWS worldwide and yet since it is only against Jews it does not require any notice, investigation, permits, or any official condemnation, and all the time ignoring all the Jewish sacrifices and suffering that made it even possible to think that the current Government in Israel is being governed by Jews and not by the Catholic church or Islam according to the Koran
22. the offending mezuzah was removed
bubba ,   Jerusalem   (12.21.07)
These words could only be expected from the most rabid anti-semites from the depths of the Shoah. The "Military officials "quoted should be forced to spend a month at Yad Veshem to understand the implications of his words. This comes a day after the Latin Patriarch denies the Jews a homeland and Omert denies Jewish settlement in Jerusalem. It's unfortunate that we get the leaders we deserve, but its hard to believe that even we deserve these leaders
23. MEZUZOT PROTECT AM ISRAEL
odeleya ,   queens ny   (12.21.07)
The leftist anti -Jew had reached a new LOW!!!!! To bother Gabi Ashkenazi about a mezuza demonstrates their great hatred towards the TORAH and observant G-D fearing Jews. I have a suggestion for them MOVE OUT OF ISRAEL AND CHANGE YOUR NAME TO ARAB NAMES !!!! These peace now people are attempting to break the hi moral and confidence of the Religous people in every way they can BUT Hashem will never let that happen. AM YEHUDI CHAI VEKAYAM!!!! ISRAEL IS A JEWISH STATE!!!!!!
24. Honor those brave men!
Ephraim ,   Diaspora   (12.21.07)
Those who placed the Mezuzah brought great honor and blessing to Israel!!!!! They should be decorated with the highest honors of the Nation! They brought the blessings of HaShem. If only all Israel would act with such honor the strength of the Almighty, blessed be He, would be seen upon the whole nation. It is obvious that HaShem was honored in this as evidenced from the squealing of the hogs who oppose it, whether it be the palis or the cowardly government. Anytime HaShem is honored the response from the servants of hasatan will be loud squeals such as can be heard when you slice the throat of a filthy hog. BARUCH HASHEM YAH!!
25. "Peace Now" are truly sick individuals
Mark ,   USA   (12.21.07)
Israel outlaws Kach but allows these sadists to file official complaints?
26. Only in the Holyland...
David ,   Hartford USA   (12.21.07)
can a rabbi worry about facing charges for putting up a mezuza. Bravo, rabbi! If it was up to me, I'd plant one on the Dome of the Rock. Did the act hurt the feelings of Muslims? Will they go insane as with the cartoons? Will they whine that we're not showing goodwill? I have something to say to our easily insulted half-brothers: give us back our three soldiers now, because we are getting royally pissed off and are just about to teach you a lesson that you will never forget.
27. "Left's Outrage"
Ed ,   USA   (12.21.07)
...of course they are "outraged"...this is a bit too "jewish" for the left....my goodness next thing you know the IDF will stop expelling Jews from their homes....then where will we be?
28. Biyuv
Peace to Keren ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (12.21.07)
It helps the grammar and spelling are clearer but the message is fairly obvious. And so is the reality. The rest of Israel believes that we need peace, that we need to negotiate a 2 state solution, share/divide Jerusalem, fix final borders. That is the national consensus and it also the message of Peace Now. These views of yours will lead us to Massada, but the rest of us won't be joining you. We want a different future. You want to destroy us.
29. a mezuzah is not harmless
leucippe   (12.21.07)
I am continually amazed at the embarrassingly immature responses on this talkback to serious stuff. the news article could not have been more explicit as to what the problem was with the mezuzah in the wrong place put up by the wrong people and totally against the law. If you really represent Israel, then I fear none of us have a future.
30. Stand trial for what? Broke what law?
JPS ,   Efrat   (12.21.07)
Ok Oppenheimer, what law or laws were broken? Or is this simply another case of the apologists who think that lobbing Qassams at civilian population centers is the Pals' "legitimate right to resist the occupation"? Does Peace Now support the restitution of Jewish property to the rightful Jewish owners from Hebron who were ousted after a massacre, excuse me, after the Pals carried out their legitimate resistance to the occupation? And what about compensation to the families of the victims? Oh, sorry, there was no "occupation" when the Palestinians massacred the Jews. Maybe they were just warming up for the upcoming intifadas...
