1. It gets down to what you believe
marilyn   (12.26.07)
Yael, your reasonings come from how you yourself have 'worked it out.' and I love your lee way you give to your sisters, but I believe that reasoning is wrong. We are not allowed to judge people in this dispensation of time, because God knows all the pressures and stresses that people come under. Without God in ones life, decisions are made up by ones own amount of knowledge or lack of it. And a great deal of people follow their 'heart'. Therefore it may come as a surprise to know Gods word states " the heart is desperate, and who can know it." This means for us who have 'faith' in God, that we go into situations where we can not 'see' where it will lead. But we make our decisions based on what God says about the matter. This is real 'trust' not in ones self but in the belief God knows better then ourselves. Yael its in these very hard areas of life that one experiences the tremendous love of God as he turns situations into joyful surprises.
2. Wrong! Abortion is bad for Israeli population
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (12.26.07)
All those fallacious arguments for aborting a baby in the womb could just as well be made for babies who are already born, which is outright and unjustifiable murder. Jewish immigration is decreasing. Abortion is therefore an enemy of Israel, not a friend.
3. dont want to raise a kid? dont get pregnant! duh
jack bauer   (12.26.07)
if you are to selfish to take responsibilty for your actions then find a good family and let them adopt the child. killing it and then trying to justify it by saying I want to live....thats crap Hashem may be merciful, but will he be if you kill his children and all because you want to "live" think about it....its either wrong or right, there is no in between most abortions are done because women act selfishly and lustfully (Im not excusing men from their role either) and do not even use protection to stop themselves from becoming pregnant. Then they act selfishly again and decide to kill their baby in order to be able to continue in their chosen lifestyle. It is one more example of people not wanting to take responsibilty for their actions
4. What about Euthanasia?
rh ,   Modiin Israel   (12.26.07)
Scenario : A woman gives birth very prematurley 25 Weeks. The baby is on a respirator. Good chance baby will be blind and have other brain damage. Parants do not feel they can raise the baby. The doctor reckons the baby will live. Can the mother kill it ? Or what about the old incapacitated aunt who is making life unbarable for the poor woman ? The reaon for abortion is people think about number 1 only.
5. What about the Father?
Ter ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (12.26.07)
I note that not once you mentioned what the father of the unborn child has to say. If a woman thinks her life will be spoiled by an early or unwanted pregnancy, the father should have the option of raising the child.
6. Trust God..
Skip ,   Addy, USA   (12.26.07)
All things were created for him and by him. Just like in the garden of eden ..what decision will you make..?? Will you choose "Life" or will you choose "the fruit of good and evil" ??.....your decision.
7. Jewish Abortion
Moriah ,   sacramento, USA   (12.26.07)
I'm so sick of the cr*p shoveled out to justify abortion: A woman's right to choose or the "health of a woman?" As humans this is not a far cry from molech but as Jews to somehow stridenly attempt to justify hacking off the branches of of our own tree is ... indescribable. It leaves me without words. Women in death camps risked their lives to protect an infant so unfortunate, or blessed to be born in a concentration camp. And today we are so sophisticated and, and cavilier about how an unborn Jewish child can be such an inconvenience. Excuse me while I go weep.
8. remarkably similar to palestinians' excuse for killing jews
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.26.07)
sure, it's murder. but life is full of difficult choices, right?
9. I, I, Me, Me
Aviva ,   Israel   (12.26.07)
It's all about Yael, "I, I, Me, Me, Myself" What a self-absorbed, narcissistic, selfish little.....
10. Let's apply some logic.
S. ,   USA   (12.26.07)
Let's apply some logic. In the article, Yael Mishali says two things: 1. Abortion is murder. 2. She is in favor of abortions. In other words, Yael Mishali is stating that she is in favor of murder. Brilliant writer.
11. what hypocrisy?
zev ,   usa   (12.26.07)
excatly what is the hypocrisy within the orthodox community with regard to abbortion? The fact that the author included that statement, explicitly shows her true intentions of writing something, anything ,against the torah way of life. another thing i dont understand is its very simple not to have children, USE BIRTHCONTROL PILLS just about every orthodox rabbi from all sect's approve its use. The bottom line of this article is, once again, to justify irresponsible behaviour. and, dont tell me that the pills dont always work, there are other methods that judaism approves of.
12. Abortion
Michael A. Keats ,   Oceanport,NJ USA   (12.26.07)
It is a scientific fact that life begins at the very instant of conception. It is that final, that absolute and there is no way around this. Responsible behavior, including i in one's sexual behavior should be paramount in avoiding unplanned children. Why murder the child for the stupidity and irresponsibility that resulted in it's conception in the first place? let the innocent live, let them be adopted into loving families. The handicapped, the deformed also have every right to live. The right to life is the most basic of human rights! Abortion is not just murder, iy is Genocide. Jews! You should be in the front ranks of those protesting this crime against Humanity for obvious reasons.
13. Ever hear of adoption
Mordechai   (12.26.07)
By your logic parents should have the right to kill their children after they are born because they can't bear the burden. After all you agree abortion is murder so why should it only be ok to murder the unborn. Peter Singer of Princeton makes this arguement. Another way to solve your problem is adoption. If a Jewish woman cannot raise her child please give it up for adoption. There are more Jews wanting to adopt than their are available Jewish children.
14. I have NEVER met a person who was adopted who regretted the
Rivkah   (12.26.07)
biological mother giving birth to him/her. I have never met a retarded or handicapped person who regretted being born. I have never met a blind person who regretted being born. I don't know what planet the author of this article is from, but it does not sound like planet earth to me. The regrets of having an abortion and the risk of later life breast cancer from having an abortion far outweigh the birth of a child the mother can give up for adoption. I have met only one parent of a retarded child who regretted having the child. Such children often die young and there is disruption in the family, but retarded children are more loving and kind than normal children. The parent who regretted having a retarded child was the owner of a Christian bookstore in California who is now an Assembly of God minister in Kingsburg, California. He was relieved when his only son died as a teenager, tired of having a monkey in the house since he did not discipline his son enough to make him controllable. The Jews I have known whose children were retarded or went insane never stopped loving them. One woman worked FULL TIME at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, because her son was a patient there at government expense. King Solomon said insanity lurks in the minds of all people. There is no guarantee the physically perfect child will not go insane. In China, autism (insanity) in children was rare until the children started getting vaccinations. How does this author know what she can cope with? Wait until her children go crazy from the toxic chemicals in vaccines and foods and water and the air and other products. Will she throw that child away because life got harder? Accepting what God gives is part of life. Actress Betty Davis adopted four children. One turned out to be brain-damaged. Did she reverse the adoption? No. She said if she had given birth to the children she could not give them back, so she would not give up on a child she adopted.
15. "Abortion is a type of murder; I have no doubt about that"..
Sam ,   Jerusalem   (12.26.07)
Mishali goes on to say, "I am in favor of abortions." NICE! So now it's no longer a pro-'choice' debate but an advocacy for murder? What's going on here? Is Ynet really desperate for opinions? I have one, please publish it...This is absurd! In regard to the 'life of distress' argument: please don't encourage your daughter to commit (in your own words) MURDER because she made a 'mistake'... Life isn't easy my dear, if you make a mistake, you must have the dignity to assume responsibility for it. By the way, please define a 'life of distress' so that we can inform the court systems on what socio-economic levels are acceptable to have children, and which aren't. This 'distress' argument is inherently flawed because you are aborting an innocent to maintain a level of comfort. Ms. Mishali, you would support your daughter, wouldn't you?
16. Did you ever hear of adoption
Miriam ,   Israel   (12.26.07)
I have an adopted son and I am very thankful everyday that his bio-mother DID NOT have an abortion and carried my son to term. There are many couples in Israel and the rest of the world who can be excellent parents and want to oppurtunity to adopt a baby, but there are not enough babies to go around. Abortion is not a kind of murder but is MURDER. Any woman that has an abortion is a murder and should be proscuted. Abortion MUST BE banned in Israel.
17. Abortion is NOT murder!
Secular Eagle   (12.26.07)
Any more than eating an egg is animal cruelty. It is astounding though that those who are the most vociferous opponents of abortion are those who are the most vehement proponents of war (Iraq, Iran, West Bank). It appears they recoil at excising a section of tissue from another person's willing body but have no compunction about dropping bombs and murdering thousands of real human beings. Morons. Bottom line: Opposed to abortion? Don't have one.
18. Its called adoption.
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (12.26.07)
If you assume that its possible to give that baby up to adoption to people who cannot have children. Then , when you terminate you pregnancy YOU ARE KILLING THE CHILD OF THOSE PARENTS WHO WOULD RECEIVE IT.
19. So, you support murder?
Ora ,   Jerusalem   (12.26.07)
All your arguments apply equally well to a baby that has already been born. If a child is born before a severe handicap is diagnosed, are the parents any more ready to handle it? What if a teenaged mother only realizes how difficult her life has become when her baby is three months old? They aren't allowed to "abort" at that point--why should they be allowed to "abort" a 22-week old fetus? There is a time to decide that you can't handle a child (or a handicapped child)--before conception. (I do not believe that the roughly 50,000 women who had abortions in Israel last year all used birth control that simply failed). At the very least, if a woman's life will truly be "ruined" (ex. by a severe health problem) should the pregnancy continue, she should decide that in the first trimester, not after the fetus is essentially a baby that could survive outside the womb. You say those who oppose abortions should visit families who couldn't handle their children. Perhaps those who support abortions should take a good look at the children themselves. Would our world really be better off without them? Did they deserve to die only because their parents were young or overwhelmed? And if the answer is yes, where do we draw the line?
20. Pure selfishness
Simon ,   Rishon Lezion, IL   (12.26.07)
I am the proud father of a beautiful and loving 4 year old autistic boy. Autism is a lifelong disability that seriously impacts that person's quality of life. Caring for such a child is exhausting, stressful, and often tearful. However, not once have I ever thought that it would have been better for him or my wife and I if he had never been born. He is a precious human life, and he has enriched us in more ways than I can express.
21. Tissue or foetus
Ter ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (12.26.07)
Proponents of abortion always refer to it as "removing some tissue". For the sake of honesty, please admit that a growing foetus is not just a bit of tissue. Abortion should be the solution of last resort, not a convenient way of correcting a mistake. Adoption is an option that would be fair to all parties involved. And please bring the father into the picture!
22. 4 - I support all youth, be they in aisa or where ever

23. Let's Hear What The Bible Says . . .
Craig Crawford ,   Laguna Niguel USA   (12.26.07)
"Were your acts of harlotry a small matter, that you have slain My children, (notice that God looks upon these little, slain babies as His!) and offered them up to them (to other gods, idols) by causing them to pass through the fire ..." (Ezekiel 16:20-21) "By causing them (babies) to pass through the fire ..." Back then, unwanted babies were 'offered' to a false god 'Molech' (a god of lust and pleasure) by placing the baby onto the glowing red-hot arms of a small bronze statue which was placed in the fire. Do a study of Molech (an idol, false god) or passing babies 'through the fire' in the Bible and you will find God will judge a nation (and a world) for the killing of babies for convenience. God says a lot about this killing of unwanted babies ('passing sons and daughters through the fire') in the Bible. The technology we now use to kill these 'unwanted' babies is different, but the intent is exactly the same. Now, instead of calling them 'priests' we call them 'doctors,' and instead of burning the babies alive (passing them 'through the fire'), we cut them into little pieces while they're alive and call it 'abortion.' God sees it and it causes Him to cry out in agony and anger. This is one more reason why the coming Apocalypse is also called 'the Day of God's Wrath' which will come upon 'a morally corrupt and violent' generation. Also, the Bible warns us that 'not only those who do such things, but also all those who approve of those who do such things' will be held just as guilty. Please remember, our God is a forgiving God who is filled with grace and mercy, and even those who have done or approved of such things can still be washed clean and forgiven through the 'blood of the Lamb of God,' our Lord, the only One who can now save us from our sins, Jesus-Yeshua the promised Messiah. 24. Consequences Will Always Be Paid. Only Queston is...
Paqid 16 Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (12.26.07)
Will the mother pay for her own misfortune? Or will the mother commit infanticide and the entirely innocent baby pay with its life? According to advocates of infanticide, if a person feels sorry for herself that justifies infanticide. By that reasoning, serial rapist killers have a license to rape and kill because they, too, feel sorry for themselves if they don't get what they want. Liberalist advocates of infanticide! Killing innocents for the good of others was Hitler's thinking and now we have that cancer in our midst! (Where the mother's life is at risk by continuing pregnancy is a different matter) PS: the most popular Israeli Jewish newspaper not publishing candlelighting times on Erev Shabbat and Erev Khag in its on-line counterpart is a disservice to Jewish readers and a disgrace to Israel. Even ha-Aretz publishes candlelighting times. Paqid Yirmeyahu IIsraeli Orthodox Jew Advancing Logic as Halakhic Authority Welcoming Jews & non-Jews www.netzarim.co.il
25. Orthodox and having kids
Shayna   (12.26.07)
When I told my (very Hareidi) Rabbi that I could not even contemplate having more kids, he immediately suggested various types of contraception I should discuss with my gynaecologist. It is a mistake to think that Rabbis want women to be rabbits. Women have got to know themselves and what they can deal with; the problem arises when some couples think they can handle more than they can really deal with. In a majority of cases, the woman is honest with herself.
26. Halacha (Jewish Law) and Abortion
Logic ,   Israel   (12.26.07)
" The traditional Jewish view of abortion does not fit conveniently into any of the major 'camps' in the current debate over abortion." http://www.aish.com/societyWork/sciencenature/Abortion_in_Jewish_Law.asp
27. You will be sorry when you are older
Esther ,   Melbourne Australia   (12.26.07)
So you want a new car, or your husband does not want to put in to bringing up the kids? When you are older the olive branches of your tree around your table will be missing. Your one or two perfect educated, wealthy children will be out of your lives. Anyhow, they will be selfish as they did not have enough brothers and sisters to share life with. THE MAJORITY of abortions are unnecessary. If women were not promiscuous, if women put a value on family life, if women listened to their Rabbis' advice when they found the pressure too great and used contraception most of these abortions would not be necessary. What we need is better education of the male of the species to be responsible in helping in the home, and I agree that unwanted children should be given over for adoption. And by the way abortions do harm a woman's physical and mental health.
28. Keep the religious out of the bedroom
Petra ,   usa   (12.26.07)
At a demonstration re: abortion the two sides faced off with signs and placards. One caught my eye, "keep your rosaries off my ovaries". On this issue, Rabbis and Priests agree except, it's NOT their decision, is it? Men make judgments about pregnancies and they dictate to keep the child and they pay nothing but lip service. Tell you what, when they give their money, they can have the right to say something. Until then, I wish every one of them a daughter / wife who's pregnant with an unwanted child.
29. Condoms/contraceptives and condolences
Petra ,   usa   (12.26.07)
One or the other will apply. If every mentally ill or drastically ill mother to be were forced to birth any child by the state, there would be far more tragedies than there are. First and foremost, have the male and female use contaceptives if they are not ready to be parents. (unfortunately, rape and incest are never mentioned) My daughter's in school with another girl her age and it's a true tragedy. The mothers in a mental ward, the father's in a wheel chair trying to raise 3 girls. He is a former mayor now with MS. You can't believe what this 'family' has gone through. The oldest girl was recently picked up by the police for prostitution, the middle girl is hooked on drugs and all three have run away, the youngest is 12. The same age as my daughter. So, for all those who paint with a wide brush please think, either support the kids, adopt the kids or, please be quiet. Most of you don't really know what you're talking about. Not a clue. Judgments don't feed, educate or love these kids. No king solomons here. One last question, how many of you here give to an orphanage? Shalom
30. # 16 Miriam I know of a girls orphanage in Israel
Petra ,   usa   (12.26.07)
and there are many girls to 'go round'. I'd be happy to furnsh the name for all who are interested. It's one of our best charities. There are too many unadopted children in Israel and everywhere. Russia is said to have 3 million. There are more orphans than good loving homes. Unfortunately, there will always be more and especially now with our bleak economic outlook. An idea, why not have these anti adortion folks each adopt one child? We did and it's a hard, loving, wonderful gift. to both the parents and the child. ( we're not chickens anymore) Some kids have no parents and they long for at least one to call them their own. A child unadopted is one of the saddest things in the world to me. So, please, step up or shut up. Thanks, and Shalom
