1. poor guy
sc   (12.26.07)
my friend had a similar incident with a gps screwing up and taking him to some arab village with a similar name. luckily it didn't end as horrendously as for this poor guy. the bit that irks me the most is the idf claiming it's the border guard's responsibility and the border guard saying it's the idf's. so here's my message to the border guard. have you noticed WHERE you're guarding?? it's the "b-o-r-d-e-r" between the west bank and the rest of israel. so, seeing as you lot are "border" guard, i'm thinking that perhaps it's your remit. accept you screwed up and do the job you're paid to do

6. God wasn't guiding...
Talula ,   Israel   (12.26.07)
Where did he think he was going when the IDF let him go through the army checkpost? He sounds like a right Idiot if you ask me. There ARE decent nice Arabs out there, we shouldn't be so shocked.
7. NICE TO KNOW
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (12.26.07)
First of it all it is good to know that there are decent people everywhere. On the other hand these are supposed to be our peace loving neighbours. Also this shows that relying on technology alone is not save and does not always protect us. Israelis have little to no knowledge of their own country, many of them for instance do not know were the Gush Etzion is located. Therefore there is a huge misconception and false sense of security that one is save in Tel Aviv or other coastel regions. Here in Judea I can see Ashdod, the mediterean and the high rise fromTel Aviv on a clear day.
8. The 'good ones' are in the minority!!

11. will 2 righteous people save the city of Ramallah?
ed ,   london UK   (12.26.07)
well, since they were east Jerusalem residents, then perhaps not,...
12. this man is stupid
Igor ,   Munich, Germany   (12.26.07)
Where the hell did he think he was going? How can one rely on a stupid GPS, especially in a country, which as as small as the smallest German state. Didn´t he notice that the roads weren´t in a great condition unlike those in Israel? Didn´t he notice the surroundings? And how did the IDF let him pass through the checkpoint with Israeli licence plates and a kippah on his head? Pay more attention on the roads and keep track where you´re driving!!!
13. ALL LIES!!
Secular Eagle   (12.26.07)
The guy is obviously lying. A bunch of settlers did this in collusion with him deliberately so he could implicate the Palestinians.

17. G-d if there were 50.. 5 .. 2 righteous would spare Sdom?
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (12.26.07)
With the PA police who save the life of the soldier who erred in Jenin and now these two in Ramallah, Abraham is inching closer to his quota to save the wicked (lynchers). Can we give them Rachav's scarlet thread to put in their windows for their safety? We must remember that there are very good people amonst the Palestinians and these two are clearly outstanding GENTLEMEN, a true tribute to their people. They may have contributed more towards the peace process than Annapolis or anyone else for true peace starts with people and how better than saving a person's life, especially an adversary. To the two I would say: Fi Ism kul Yahud W'Yisraeli Shukran min kulna, Allah Ma'kum. Ma'ah Salame' p.s. Next time don't get save the 20 Shekels buying the GPS in the flea market. Buy a good one, name brand, with warranty.
18. well , he got lost in an area where people living there
an israeli ,   jerusalem   (12.26.07)
are living the worst kind of occupation and apparthied ever witnessed in the history books , and even worst , he was caught in a refugee camp where all the occupants of the camp where kicked out and had there homes and lands stolen by this mans people , and mabee he was part of that theft since every israeli serves in the army . so dont be surprised , this could happen anywhere givin the same circumstances
19. #10 You are correct
(12.26.07)
Or just tell them "I am an Israili." That is how Israelis identify themselves anyway.
20. The more I think of it, the more the true story stands out
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (12.26.07)
The more I think of it the more the more obvious the real story is here. As such it cannot be printed at this time since it might endanger lives.

25. #12
anon ,   Israel & Germany   (12.26.07)
First, how do you know what the situation on the ground is in this region? Was the man confused and lacking common sense. Yes. Was and is it very possible. Signs within Israel proper can be very confusing and even at times not always correct or poorly placed. If you are not familiar with an area, it is very possible to go the wrong way. As for the road conditions, I have no idea where you got the impression that things were marvelous for the roadworks in Israel, but that is a load of crock. Some municipalities are better, some less. In many places there are very poor roads in Israel due to a lack of renovating the infrastructure. As for your silly comment about the surroundings: have you every been in Israel? I know I asked this at the beginning, but frankly when you head to some parts, you wouldn't necessarily know the difference. It's not clear cut. As for passing through the checkpoint, well, he was going in to PA controlled territory, not into Israel. Perhaps the kippah wasn't noticeable. The article mentioned there were East Jerusalem Arabs and I am assuming they probably had Israeli license plates and they got through. My point being is that have traveled to places where border police from country A quite frankly didn't care who was going to country B. It doesn't surprise me. People also forget about those two reservists who were lynched... true they had no GPS, but something about the roads to Ramallah and Jerusalem can be very confusing and deadly for some.
26. dont go where we aint wanted folks
(12.26.07)
got to stay out of these places....and if it looks bad, then dont go further into it. i would have driven away floored the gas petal and let the damn guy hang onto the door whule driving away....maybe he would have fallen off

29. Arab Empathy
David P. ,   Central Coast, USA   (12.26.07)
It is possible to empathize with anyone by placing yourself in their shoes, trying to focus on the experience on an individual and visualize how they must feel. In this situation the 2 Arabs that helped this poor guy out were able to do this and felt some how compelled to act at great risk to their own safety. These 2 people believed that they would receive more pleasure from helping the individual rather then hurting him. Is being of the minority opinion among the majority an act of righteousness of selfishness?
30. #13 is right! This and the lynching of two reservists.......
chanan ,   USA   (12.26.07)
............. in Ramallah are lies. #13 is a genius to know the truth from unnamed sources, must be divine inspiration befallen upon him!
