As a tourist, I was driving the Jerusalem-Dead Sea road, when my wife suggested we stop for a picture with a camel at the side of the road. There was a Bedouin with an Israeli flag near his place, to attract visitors. When I stopped I was hesitating to leave the car, but he waved me on; like to say he was friendly. He even spoke pretty good English! He is used to doing this. I should switch jobs with him! He gave me, my wife and together some camel rides. He took pictures and movies. It took like 1—15 minutes. That Arab almost killed me! I figured I'll be nice and give him $20, but he wanted no less then 450 Shekel...! Like $115. He "lowered" to 250. He threatened me "you are not going anywhere"! And I am in HIS territory! We had an older Arab mediate, and after listening to both sides he ruled on 150. The Arab then openly threatened me with my life! I thought my car goes faster then his camel. But was surprised when he got into an old mini van, which I had thought was not functioning, and came after me! To make a long story short, I did not tell my wife but was frightened, and he followed me despite any tricks I tried. He knew the place better then me! I approached an army checkpoint, not far from Jericho. I stopped and jumped out to the solders. When he saw it, he made a sharp U turn and fled! The solders said it was very dangerous to stop there. They seemed lazy and did not care much. Especially as it was not a Palestinian and they did not have a Jeep. I doubt he would have killed me. Probably just wanted to scare me. But you never know!

please inform me about the behavior of the Check point. I was in Israel one year ago as a tourist. I rented a car in Jerusalem (with israeli plates) and I drove arround Israel. One day I went WITH THIS CAR to Jericho in the PA. At the checkpoint I asked the israeli officer if it would be dangerous for me to enter Jericho with my israeli car. They said: "No problem, even Israelis do that" So I still wonder about that. It seems to be VERY dangerous. Why did the checkpoint people let me (and Ochana) went through and did not warn us??? I don´t understand!

Fine story, but: consider the opposite. A palestinian car driver has passed by accident the Israeli border control without being stopped by the IDF officers - having a palestine car plate and wearing a khuffiya. How would that end?
