even if Ninveh was destroyed 40 years later which i believe is not the case [where is your proof for your contention]this would contradict the prophecy of Ninveh destruction in forty days .The truth is that Jonah prophesied that Ninveh would be overturned[nishapech] which is translated as destroyed but since the inhabitents overturned themselves from bad to good [repented ] it proves that Jonah's prophecy was fulfilled as for the rest of your post that is your own fantasy

The Roman Catholics take the same stance on interpreting scripture. A RC is not free to read scripture & interpret for his/her self. RC Church states that scripture must be interpreted within the guidelines of interpretations already laid down. The RC Church doesn't approve of people making their own interpretations of scripture. This is why, when the Bible was translated into the common tongue(s) the translators & sellers of such translations were put to death. The RC fear was that every believer would be able to read & interpret scripture for themselves. The RC church was so aghast at this thought that death was the punishment for having a common tongue translation. I assume that Rivkah, like myself, follows a different tradition. One that states that each believer is able to make interpretations without following anyone else's prior interpretations. I find it wonderful to be able to consult many scholars (Jewish & Christian) when I study scripture. Sometimes I find new insight, sometimes I don't. I'm never compelled to let prior interpretations be my guide, although I usually allow myself to be. I believe a Jewish stream, Karaite, also believes in the ability of the believer to read & interpret scriptures for themselves. I also am aware that some Jews do NOT regard Karaites as true jews.
