2. And now that Barak is Defense Minister
Jayzee ,   World Citizen   (01.08.08)
Will his only action be the condemnation of previous actions? What will be done in regards to the Syrian and Hizballah threat? About Gaza? One can only blame others for their situation for so long. Eventually they must take responsibility for their own actions or lack there of.
3. So war is about winning?
Frank ,   Canada   (01.08.08)

papa jay   (01.08.08)
The principle of using overwhelming force to press the enemy to surrender quickly was also not applied. Israel threw everything but the kitchen sink at Lebanon.
7. These Politicians !
ben ,   singapore   (01.08.08)
Is there anything they could think of other than the war , lets say like nation building. It looks like they need war to stay relevant in the Parliament.Yes, terrorist need terror to stay relevant and get paid or stay employed. The weapon suppy nation need war to sell their weapons. And soldiers die for all these politicians. That all !

13. barak's comments
geroge   (01.08.08)
Barak's comments are interesting saying that hezbollah' s aresenal of rockets is greater now with longer range rockets and with new nature reserves than before the war. The genius olmert said israel won the war and put hezbollah in its place. Clearly Olmert lied to israelis, lied to winograd or is delusional and non-functional on military/security matters. Barak said israel was wrong to go to war, and if had to should have used overwhelming force directly contradicting olmert.Barak basically is saying that olmert screwed up the war and cost israel significant losses. What are you going to do now Olmert. Try to get your haaretz boys to help you out now by blaming the IDF, like marcus and Benn the olmert idiots??!!
14. that is Olmerts fault! He needs to be jailed for treason!
GOD   (01.08.08)
15. "Hizbullah has gotten stronger" - Who's fault is that?
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (01.08.08)
It was under Barak's watch, as both DM and PM, that Hizbullah strengthened its position in Lebanon. Israel did nothing. In the aftermath of Lebanon War II, and in contravention of UNSC 1701, Hizbullah is rebuilding and rearming. And what is Israel doing besides watching? Are they demanding that the UN fulfill its own committments? Are they seeing that Syria pays any price for their actions? To the contrary, Barak is among those pushing for a "peace deal" with Syria that will only leave Israel more vulnerable.
16. Barak is right, and he is to blame as well.

destroyed.
19. ISRAEL IS WINNING THE WAR
steve ,   london, england   (01.08.08)
People fight different sorts of wars for different reasons. Each has a different ending and therefore a different approach to their end. Israel is winning the war of attrition against Hizbullah and its paymasters because Israel is making the teleology behind Hizbullah very obvious in the world's perception. Teleology: doctrine of final causes, view that developments are due to the purpose of design that is served by them. Hizbullah are sinners. Hizbullah are racists. The 2nd Lebanon war was a military and political success. It was only a failure in that so many non combatant Lebanese citizens were killed. This is awful for Israel to bear on its conscience. Great Britain has to bear the conscience of hundreds of thousands of civilians bombed to death in irder to beak the will of that nation. How many nations have been involved in wars!?. War is a last resort. It is the most evil and disgusting practice of all. But if you do not fight people who prefer war they get to win. Israel's military learned what it is to fight Hizbullah. This was a success. Now they know what it takes to utterly defeat them. But let's hope we don't have to. The rockets from Lebanon have stopped. Another success. Now we have to apply the cultural pressure. We have to nudge the world and its leaders to call out against the militarism of Hizbullah. We need to bring peqace and prosperity to Lebanon. This means organizing trade and development. You can't do that without including everyone. Israel needs to let the world know it has won. The Kenneset Defence and Foreign Relations Committee should maybe consider debating what it would take to bring about the reduction of compulsory military service in Israel. It will take sustainable regimes controlling the maintenance of peace and security in Arab countries. Israel should talk louder about how this can be aachieved and organized in arab countries. Put Israel's military analysts to work on that. If the arabs won't do it themselves then Israel must come up with the answers to their problems for them. Arabs hate looking the fool. Israel should not be fooled. Be wiser than your enemy in the art of war. See the end. See the teleology. Follow the route to the end. Rout your ideological foes. Celebrate wisdom. Kill war.
20. A genius
Israel Israeli ,   tel aviv   (01.08.08)
Hezbolla is so strong because there is no Lebanese force fighting them. There used to be, the Lebanese patriots of the SLA. But they were all murdered because some genius stabbed them in the back. That genius was Ehud Barak.
21. I'm with 4.
Kabooom   (01.08.08)
We must really be a dumb buncha S.O.B.s to expect to one day just be left to live in peace by our 'nieghbours'. I mean really, how much more are we to take?
22. about 1701 resolution
Sami Azouri ,   Lebanon   (01.08.08)
the UN in southern Lebanon are theoreticaly hostage of hizbollah will.As the General camander say in un interview ,what make difference if we spot few rocket here or there and risque the live of our troops for it if hizbollah by himself declaring that he has thousand. I found his logic is right.
23. Barak, you Failure are Responsible for This!
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (01.08.08)
I haven't forgotten.
24. hizbullah's weapon purchases will never cure their stupidity
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.08.08)
and that is forever going to be an advantage israel has over the terrorists.
25. Barak forgot it was his idea to unconditionally retreat?
aaron ,   ra'anana   (01.08.08)
with no agreement in place, leaving the northern border in the hands of Hezbollah the results of the lebanon war are a direct result of his policies of surrender, retreat, abandonment of our SLA allies, cowardice, and opportunism
26. Revelation
Scott ,   Haifa   (01.08.08)
These leaders are just as confused or even more so than the people. Barak is one of the people who handed back Lebanon to the Hizbulla. Now Gaza is a terrorist state like everyone said that it would be if we removed the settlers. Oh, but let's continue now to move forward to a two-state solution...it's not enought to be surrounded by enemies, let's also let them build a state right here in our midst too. Very suicidal. Just for the record my vote is not with these confused and suicidal men.
27. #17, and the Dimple on Barak's Chin
Esther ,   Ofarim, Israel   (01.08.08)
is really his pupik. Happiness and a good plastic surgeon make that idiot look younger.
28. HEZ fired 2 Katyushas at Israel. We need NO CONFIDENCE VOTE
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (01.08.08)
NOW. We must bring down Olmert and Livni immediately. Israel cannot remain in jeapardy with Olmert and Livni at the helm. The govt. must be replaced immediately with responsible leaders. Olmert should be put on trial for his failure in Lebanon 2, etc.
29. #22, yep the UN is a joke
Danny   (01.08.08)
We in Israel all pretty much thought that the "multi-national force" was a cynical ploy to delay a ceasefire being imposed on Israel. UNIFIL - and pretty much every UN mission anywhere - has failed to come even close to fulfilling it's mission, why adding more "pensionaires" would make a difference is anyone's guess. For me this was one of the scariest events in the War, the idea our leaders may have taken it seriously....
30. Barak is a good one to talk
zionist forever   (01.08.08)
Its him who pulled out of Lebanon unconditionaly without doing anythng to harm the terrorist networks before he pulled out. When it comes to Lebanon Olmerts responsible for rushing into a war with no clear objectives and then pulling out without achiving anything but Barak is responsible for putting Hizbullah into a position where they were strong enough to fight a war. Barak should be hiding away in shame not making political statements.
