31. # 23 What if you DON"T accept Bible as a word of G-d?
Petra ,   usa   (01.10.08)
That's your right. Jonas,You must however remember that the majority of people do, in whatever nation they live in. Without the Torah or the Bible, no one would know of the prophecies that are manifesting themselves in the reborn State of Israel., just as wrtten thousands of years ago. Israel is the apple of G-ds eye whether or not you believe it. Israel keeps Sabbath as instructed ( one of the few laws Israel does keep continually) Respecting your right is fine as long as you respect the rights of other people. Without Torah or Bible, Israel is just another place on earth, without exception. Israel cannot be as YOU chose. It was chosen by a higher power that most people do believe in. The seperation of church and state still applies but, remebering what's holy we must live what 'we the people' believe. I find no objection to Israel or Zion as they are written of eons before the rebirth of Israel. For those beleiving in Torah, we see the promise of Israel being kept. For those who don't you're welcomed anyway and must honor those who do believe as they paid the price in blood as have those in America who proved this point, "A man has no greater love for his friends than to lay down his life". That goes for believers or not.
32. # 22 Eddie Yes, and backed by the words of G-d.
Petra ,   usa   (01.10.08)
The same G-d both Jews and Christians believe in. It's a part of the Judeo Christian values we share. Let's hope Bush's belief helps him do the right thing for Israel. He should never ask Israel to give up one inch of land to appease the Saudis. It's not HIS to give and certainly not to Israels mortal enemy, the Arabs. It's not for sale.
33. Jossele P , and his alikes
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.10.08)
And the Shoa was also god's will for you , no ? So stop this B...S..
34. The will of god....
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.10.08)
The arrogance of religious leaders of whatever ilk, is mind-boggling. Every last one talks of "the will of god." When they don't have an answer for something, god's nature is unknown and unknowable. When it's convenient and fits their agenda, they suddenly know his will. They had best hope that god has a good sense of humor. If he doesn't, I would not want to have been one of these heavenly marketing gurus, having led people down the path of one outrageous foolishness after the other. Of course, when things don't go according to what was peddled as god's will, it couldn't possibly be that they are wrong, always have been wrong and had/have no more of a clue as to god's will then as they do now. Oh no! Under threat of one disaster or the other, here or, in case that doesn't work, in the hereafter, one was/is supposed to suspend and disregard the reasoning power and conscience god so graciously gave and blindly follow some religous pied piper or the other. When our time comes to explain what we did with the life and good sense he granted us, I wonder to what extent god will let us off the hook with, "but, but, but, he/she/they told me this was your will and promise which you, yourself, "dictated." As for Bush encouraging Jews to emigrate, we call that discrimination and I'm sure that our Jewish citizens would have something to say about whatever form in which this "encouragement" might manifest itself. Isn't it just a bit ironic that the rabbi wants this Christian president to accomplish what the State of Israel and god's supposed will can't seem to manage? Israel doesn't like it, when its citizens leave the country, so why is Bush asked to encourage our citizens to do that very thing? How utterly hypocritical. For Pete's sakes, somebody make some sense! But to be democratic about it all.....Moshe, browsing through an antiques store in Haifa, takes an inordinate liking to a brass rat. Although the price is high, he must have this brass rat. When he pays for it, the merchant tells him that he may bring it back for a full refund, should he become dissatisfied with it. The minute Moshe leaves the store he notices that a few rats are following him. After walking through a few more streets, he is being followed by millions of rats. Knowing he can’t go home with this retinue in tow, he heads for the harbor where he throws that brass rat far out into the water. Of course, all the live rats follow and drown. Moshe immediately goes back to the store. The merchant, a bit surprised that he’s back so soon, starts to write up a refund ticket. When he inquires as to the reason for the customer’s returning the rat, Moshe tells him that he is not there for a refund, but that he wishes to purchase a couple of other brass items he saw: the little Jihadist statue and some Jesus-looking thing in the back of the store…….
35. chosen people
atheist ,   London, UK   (01.10.08)
I feel so sad for you 'chosen people', I really do. Slaves to some invisible, non-existent power; tricked by the hallucinations of desert-dwellers! I'd much rather choose than be chosen. I am master of my destiny, and neither man nor god can alter that. Religion is evil, religion is death.
36. Nothing wrong with the letter
Jack ,   USA   (01.10.08)
We remember the ritious gentiles, throughout history, we also remember those who do not stand with Israel. I believe in the end Bush will stand with Israel, but the propblem we have is we have the wrong people in power and they are sending the wrong message, Olmert, Livini and Barak are the worst at this time. Look what Olmert did in Lebanon, If Benjamin Netanyahu and Arens were in power history would have been different. In the end its the Israeli people at fult, yes the people at fault, why have you not called for Olmert Barak and Livini to step down? Why have you not demanded new elections. You are wasting opportunities and that is a shame. If Bush stand with Israel he will always be remembered as a friend a best friend, if he does not he will be viewed as another politician Christian who betrayed us. In the US we need Gullini -Pres and Gingrich VP and Bolton Sec state.
37. Orthodox tolerance demonstrated by JOseph P
Hiram ,   Paris   (01.10.08)
Joseph, you are not following God's commands by insulting people, just like the Neturai Karta people usually do. I simply reminds you that over 85 % of my family whose origin was traced back to the 15th century was killed by the Nazis, and that between 1933 and 1945 Jews were killed and persecuted without any intervention from God. Were the 6.000.000 all sinners ? Or may be some of them , including my Grand Father Moshe ( a Hazan in Krakow synagogue) had a spotless sould but nevertheless were killed ? The problem with you, religious freaks, is that you cannot take contradiction. In that respect , Yes, extremists Muslims are righfully your cousins and therefore it helps explaining why Israel is in such a mess and Judaism undergo violent critics. And I maintain : your way of adressing to people certainly shows either a sign of immaturity or a sign of great anxiety possibly caused by being raised like you have been raised in "tolerance and Jewish values " Stop insulting people and believe me, I am not ashamed of being a Jew. I am ashamed that the world may believe that all Jews are like you ! Git Shabbes
38. M.HARTLEY
Hiram ,   Paris   (01.10.08)
Your story is wonderful.... Jewish humour is definately something than cannot be beaten by anything else....Just like Yiddish ! Cheers
39. To #35 - to the Atheist fron Londonstan
Benyamin ,   Detroit   (01.10.08)
You continue thinking like that. One day, when you will feel like you no more a master of your desteny, will see you in minyan (if you are jewish), and it will happen, it is a promise.
40. #36 Giuliani & Gingrich? You must be joking!
David ,   Los Angeles   (01.10.08)
The duo of cheaters. I guess Giuliani will promise he loves Israel, but one day will stand up at a press conference to announce his intention to divorce...
41. This letter is a political statement, not Torah
Daniel ,   New York   (01.10.08)
42. To Hiram from Paris
Benyamin ,   Detroit   (01.10.08)
Hiram, my grandperent were also lost in the Holocaust, but it does not give me rights to blame G-d or people who are nor responsible. Lets put thing into perspective, it was the "enlightened" ones who helped to bering Hitler to power, and it was also the "enlightened" ones who helped communist and Stalin. So who is responsible for millions killed in 20th century? Maybe the progressive people and athiest had something to do with that.
43. hartley#34 If hiram kissed your a**(oh,excuse me all !)
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (01.10.08)
It is because the content of you talkback is anti-jewish. He hates Jews, and it is rare for him to kiss a**s(oh,excuse me all again!) like yours, but if he did... Certainly he prefered to skip the first part of you talkback and stick in the part where the disguise go as "humor". Hiram is like olmert-he only kisses enemies! But,of course, hartley, you are funny sometimes-bush must be too!
44. RABBI WITH NO STANDING DISTORTING TORAH TO SUIT HIS POLITICS
Daniel ,   New York   (01.10.08)
He has NO standing in the Torah world. "Former Chief Rabbi" means nothing. The position is a political appointment of the State, and is nothing but an administrative position. And he doesn't even have that job any more.
45. R' Eliyahu has no standing in the Torah world
Daniel ,   New York   (01.10.08)
He's a former occupant of a government administrative position. Nothing more. His constant attempts to cloak his extreme Right Wing political views as Torah are of no consequence.
46. Ishmaelites? What is this clown smoking?
David ,   Los Angeles   (01.10.08)
47. We know what happened to our brothers.
wtcfirefighter ,   NYC, USA   (01.10.08)
We have long memories too. Don't push your luck. http://web.archive.org/web/20011108025936/http://www.bergen.com/news/2bombvan200109125.htm http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0109/11/se.04.html
48. Don't act against God’s will
Efraim ,   Palo Alto, Ca   (01.10.08)
Shalom May God bless the Jewish people and nation. The letter form Rabbi Eliyahu was well wriiten. Lets hope president Bush does the right thing. Only God can save the Jewsih nation against our enemies. I pray for a speedy redmetion and the coming of Moshiakh soon. Am Israel Hai.
49. Bible = Word of G-d?
:/ ,   USA   (01.10.08)
so does the rabbi believe in the bible as a whole or just certain parts? if he believes the whole, why not just ask the jewish people to convert to christianity and avoid the whole armageddon mess?
50. #40 fro 36
Jack   (01.10.08)
Not sure what you don't understand and what you do so I will say it a different way. Israel needs Benjamin Netanyahu for Prime Minister, Moshe Arens the old lion for Defense Minister, War is comming and left liberal defeatest will not do. Not sure what you hear on the left coast, but Gullini has been a true friend, remember he walked out of a concert because of Arafat, remember all the times he stood aginst Hamas and Abbas and Arafat etc. Did not except Saudi money at ground zero etc. IS Married to A jew who maybe the Ester of our time, Gingrich and Arch supporter of Israel and against the Arabs as Vice Pres, and G-d Willing John Bolton to clean out the left leining, Clinton supporters and defeatests in State frrom the bottom up.
51. M. Harley, Hiriam
(01.10.08)
Nothing like being compared to rats to be drowned in the river to bring about a good laugh.
52. To # 5
Ben Avraham ,   Jerusalem   (01.10.08)
David, It is very rude to talk about the Rabbi in the way that you did. He certainly is a Zionist and he has probably done more our wonderful country that you have done. Incidentally, the Army is not the only way to serve our country. Oh and by the way, it is not particularly courageous to slander someone by the internet.
53. Dear Petra...#31
Jonas ,   SAD   (01.10.08)
I answered ALL that in my previous post - only it was censored. The censor of this section is probably one of these religious people whose faith is hanging on so thin line that he cannot publish anything that supply the argument against his view. He will let through insults and stupidity - that cannot hurt his faith, of course - but any particular interesting adn daring questions and analysis will remain censored. What can be seen in choice of posts he highlightens. If this censor was born christian, he would be a zelot in Vatican. Of course, I don't expect that he will publish this - this is, after all, written only for him. :) He HAS to read this. :)
54. # 24 Outside Orthodoxy, all apicores ?
Abel Shoni ,   France   (01.10.08)
Proverbs 11:2 "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." NO human being knows God's will. Nobody can prove God's existence, nobody can prove that he doesn't exist. We are sure of two things : birth and death, the rest is personal conviction and implies the greatest, possible tolerance.
55. What PARASITES!
ralphie ,   nashville usa   (01.10.08)
.
56. These are Israel's True leaders.
LEE ,   NY, USA   (01.10.08)
57. # 34 Madam, the Moshe of your story
Abel Shoni ,   France   (01.10.08)
would have probably considered that Christians be freaks, but certainly not terrorists. He would have been wiser and more loving than you, and not even buy a statue resembling you and your like. In a nutshell : your two last lines highlighted a terrific confession : you want your President (he is a Christian) and millions like him to get drowned ... Politically incorrect. Delicious and dreadful your opinion about Christians. I doubt it was a joke, but what you really think at the back of your heart (no, not heart, you haven't). By George !
58. To # 51
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.10.08)
You obviously missed the gist of the little joke. Moshe was simply hoping to rid his life of a couple of other irritations in his life. Nobody compared anyone to rats.
59. To #57
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.10.08)
Good grief, what are you reading? First of all, if it's one thing I'm definitely not nor have any ambitions to ever be, it's politically correct. #2 I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Republican, who voted for Bush. #3 I beg to differ with you as respects how Christians are viewed in some quarters, and it goes just a little further than as simple freaks. #4 If you judge me on a joke the point of which you seem to have missed, that's not my problem and has no bearing on who and what I am. #5 Although I believe in god, my opinion of all man-invented religions is the same.
60. Getting it wrong ...again
James B ,   Izramerica   (01.10.08)
If you look at the Holy writings you will find that the Creator promised the land TO THE OBEDIENT. From the time that Joshua spied out the land it has been obedience that caused the RIGHTEOUS to inherit the land. DISOBEDIENCE brings destruction as it has for ALL that forsake HIM to PROFIT themselves.
