31. The Thought Police Can Jump Off A Cliff
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (01.16.08)
The slippery slope into totalitarian methods is alive and well in the Knesset. -shades of left over Soviet Union technigues. Hmmm. By impinging on freedom of expression/speech, the Israeli thought police have concluded that the best way to silence the nationalist opposition is to cut it off through threats. There is nothing that would stop me from speaking my mind, in particular if it means bringing disinfectant to the light of day within Israel's corrupt leadership etc. In a perverse fashion this legislation will PROVE beyond a doubt that Israel is NOT a democracy. Bring it on!

33. The Silver Lining
Academic ,   Israel   (01.16.08)
As an academic with right-wing views, I am constantly forced to hide my true positions and just shut about them. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be allowed to work in any university in the country since the Left rules there to a great extent. Anonymus talkbacks are the only way I can express my positions and criticize the powers that be without imperiling my livihood. This bill is quite plainly directed against the Right and anyone who opposes the Olmert/Bar On/Ramon crew and tell them the truth about their ruining the country. The sad truth is that they are determined to give back East Jerusalem and a large part of Judea and Samaria, in spite of the mess they've created in Gaza and Lebanon. But there is a silver lining here. If we are forced to remain silent online, we may actually get up and join the demonstrations that will begin again and hopefully we will then be able to topple this sickening, totalitarian government.

Will these publication fall within the legislation mentioned above ???? Al-Qaeda's white army of terror Two and a half years on from the 7/7 attack on London, MI5 has identified a worrying new trend in Al-Qaeda recruits Picture: Phil Wilkinson « Previous « PreviousNext » Next » View GalleryBy Richard Elias HUNDREDS of British non-Muslims have been recruited by al-Qaeda to wage war against the West, senior security sources warned last night. As many as 1,500 white Britons are believed to have converted to Islam for the purpose of funding, planning and carrying out surprise terror attacks inside the UK, according to one MI5 source. Lord Carlile, the Government's independent reviewer of anti-terrorism legislation, said many of the converts had been targeted by radical Muslims while serving prison terms. Security experts say the growing secret army of white terrorists poses a particularly serious threat as they are far less likely to be detected than members of the Asian community. Since the 7/7 and 21/7 London bombings, police and intelligence services have had considerable success in identifying, disrupting and stopping extremist plots. As a result, groups such as al-Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen have been forced to change tack. Converting white non-Muslims has been one response. The trend is well established in the United States. American-born Adam Gadahn is one of the FBI's top 10 most-wanted terrorists after converting to Islam and rising through al-Qaeda's ranks to become a prominent spokesman. One British security source last night told Scotland on Sunday: "There could be anything up to 1,500 converts to the fundamentalist cause across Britain. They pose a real potential danger to our domestic security because, obviously, these people blend in and do not raise any flags. "The exact figure of those who have converted to Islam and turned to terror is not precisely known. Not everyone who converts becomes radicalised and it may be that just two-fifths go down that path, but it remains a significant and dangerous problem." Carlile said he was not aware of specific numbers, but confirmed to Scotland on Sunday that Whitehall
36. No 2 : impinges on freedom of speech ???
ben ,   singapore   (01.16.08)
Carlile added: "The Home Office has a lot of money, millions of pounds, which is being put forward for communities and fighting radicalisation. There is no question how tackling this issue is best achieved: it is achieved at a community level." Security experts say radical Muslims in prison have become adept at identifying potential new recruits to their cause. Those in custody for the first time, the young and the lonely are particularly susceptible. Initially, the approach is made to comfort, console and support, with very little reference, if any, to religion. However, after several 'chats', the conversation will be turned towards the subject and, gradually, over a period of weeks or months, it is possible to complete the conversion. Robert Leiken, director of the Immigration and National Security Programme and a specialist on European Muslims based at the Nixon Centre in Washington DC, said: "To me, the figure of 1,500 seems reasonable as many, perhaps less than a third, will actually go on to become radicals. "New religious recruits always tend to be more zealous than those who have grown up with that specific religion." Edwin Bakker, a Dutch-based security specialist, has studied at length the issue of radical conversions. He said: "The question is relevant and timely. Newcomers to Islam are extra-sensitive to perceived discrimination of Muslims and Islam-bashing. "They feel they have to defend Islam – one of the essential concepts of Jihad – and they feel they have to prove themselves as newcomers." But one of Scotland's leading Muslims disputed the claims of radicalisation, saying Islam's strict moral code made it unattractive to many westerners. Bashir Maan added: "I do not know of any Islamist terror group in Scotland and, considering as a Muslim a person must pray five times daily, abstain from drinking (and] sex outside marriage, adhere to strict dietary and many other rules, it is impossible to convert to Islam a young person brought up in this very liberal society. "I agree that the security services must be vigilant and keep their eye on everybody, but I think in this case they seem to be over-reacting." The full article contains 788 words and appears in Scotland On Sunday newspaper.
37. This can't be acceptable
Gaia ,   Haifa   (01.16.08)
How can the Israeli Government even consider infringing a basic freedom such as speech and expression? It's enough that many news agencies as it is censor due to political liaisons and advertising interests, but to stop people from expressing their ideas and views on topics such as politics or anything really is a radical act. How can you be a democratic society or consider yourself a free country when you deter people from discussing what their own government, or social situations? This would be a step toward a very scary direction where people will not be allowed to discuss certain issues or protest events. The internet is one of the only forms of media where people can be free to exchange ideas and concerns, in my opinion, a government that would take this away is a cowardly. "If they can't take the heat, they shouldn't be in the kitchen!"
38. computer illiterates, technological pygmies
Mike ,   Jerusalem   (01.16.08)
If the MKs who proposed the foolish bill knew the first thing about routers, networks and sites that hide IPS they would never have flaunted their ignorance in public. There are sites that you can go to and they cover you so that no one can find your true identity! They can not legislate these sites and will not stop talkbackers. The only way to stop people from expressing their opinion is to censor sites like YNET and Jerusalem Post. Imagine them trying to enforce their ridiculous law on Arutz 7,lol. All they will accomplish by this nonsense is to make Israel more of a laughing stock in the eyes of the world than it already is. I can just see the State of Israel taken to court by the ACLU!

Hasson belongs to the Israel Beitenu , created for the Russian olim , but today more a right wing than a Russian party , So you don't need glasses , they won't help blind people . What has this to do with being atheist or communist ? i accept what people say about me , but you don't . For you everything said against some acts of Charidim , is attacking them . So you did'nt read , if you can , some of my talk backs , where i praised acts by some of the GOOD Charidim , category you don't belong to . PS Just today i received a letter thanking me for the support i give to a Charidi founded and run Amouta , by great people , not jossele P of course .

I don't know how many tb's are received by Ynet every day , certainly no more than 100 per article . To come to 50,000 they need to print 500 articles every day . You see why i have doudbs ? Turning Ynet , Haaretz and Aruts Sheva into all jazeraas ? Do you think that Aruts Sheva will go that way ? The talk backs in Haaretz , have you read them ? don't you see the many anti Israelis who are posting there ? Not only are they anti Israeli , but even truely antisemites . A media reform necessary ? Maybe , but how ? you certainly know that the papers are owned by great concerns , sometimes even multinationals . The price you pay for your dayly newspaper only pays the paper on wich it is printed . The rest comes from publicity . Here we have different TV chains , two of them privately owned [ i think i'm right ] So people have the choice . Have a look at some tb's here . One : from Trotsky , to Lenin , to Stalin , to Yacimovitch . She , Shelly Yachimovitch was one of the two voting AGAINST this bill . people are so blind and hatefull that they even can't see who is who .
44. Personal Accountability For One's Words?!? (2nd)
Paqid 16 Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (01.16.08)
Stopping loony tunes from brandishing their only weapons -- impugning and slandering with ad hominems -- is NOT infringement of freedom of speech!!! Freedom of speech was NEVER designed to protect slanderers. I identify myself, I document, deal with issues and warn the talkback community only when there is a danger they would be misled by not knowing when a talkbacker is an atheist "Jew," a non-Orthodox Jew, a Christian, a homosexual and the like. Unlike the unprincipled and malicious maligners who impugn me, I always document. They never document because it is impossible to document lies. They can only repeat them with monotonous regularity. Such contra-Torah talkbackers routinely hide behind their anonymity like snakes under a rock, inviting other talkbackers to assume they have some knowledge or authority in the Israeli or Jewish community. Documented warnings to the community about them is NOT lashon ha-Ra. This legislation doesn't constrain freedom of responsible speech. It won't affect me at all because I can document everything I write. It merely enables legal redress for the victims of irresponsible lies, impugning and slander. May this legal remedy come quickly. Barukh (2), documented truth and fact cannot be penalized. If you'll stick to responsible fact and truth you have nothing to fear. If you'll state opinion as opinion and NOT assert it as undocumented fact, then opinion is generally acceptable speech (but check with a lawyer when in doubt). When you state malicious words as fact, then you have a legal problem. There is no reasonable justification for unfounded malicious impugning. There is no justificiable reason to descend into slanderous hyperbole. If you do, then you deserve the consequences. Igor (3), actually, if you refuse to identify yourself and accept responsibility for your words you would be refused access. Marcel (4) and many others, you're mistaken to think such legislation is to protect government figures from criticism. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, insulting a government figure is already punishable by law. If so, they don't need this legislation at all. You're all being boondoggled -- suckered -- by those whose cyber-future depends on unprincipled lies, slander and impugning. Academic (33), take a lesson from 31. Standing up does cost. So does not standing up. Gaia (37), if you can't constrain yourself to responsible speech, documentation and truth, then my vote is for YOU to get out of what could otherwise be an intelligent and productive cyber-forum. MOST TELLINGLY, this legislation doesn't bother those who adhere to truth, documentation and dealing responsibly with issues. The only ones who oppose this legislation are the liars, the slanderers, the impugners and those bent on continuing reckless and unprincipled speech, unwilling to identify themselves like a ben-adam, who fear being responsible for their words. The world is FAR better off without their cyber-diarrhea -- and intelligent and responsible people will be able to accomplish much more without their deliberate, unscrupulous and hateful obfuscation. Stopping loony tunes from brandishing their only weapons -- impugning and slandering with ad hominems -- is NOT infringement of freedom of speech!!! Freedom of speech was NEVER designed to protect slanderers. Since ynet has declined to publish my posting 4 times now, clearly they prefer the raucous obfuscation and chaos of the present, tabloidal, status quo rather than be constrained to responsible journalism. Journalism has become extinct. Now, there only remain infotaining tabloids. Jerusalem Post censors most of my talk backs. Arutz Sheva and Haaretz publish almost all of my talk backs. Will Israel's gov't prosecute us for being pro-Israel pro-Jew pro human rights for Jews? Will be we prosecuted for being against ethnic Jew cleansing? Not one inch of Jewish Holy Land to the enemy! JEWS MUST HAVE HUMAN RIGHTS

shalom i do not believe there is a freedom of speach in Yisrael. There is no freedom of speach in arab and muslim countries but they opeenly admit that. I think, since Yisrael is a pert of middle east, Yisraelileaders think the same way as arabs.
52. So much for freedom of speech
Steve ,   USA   (01.17.08)
B"H Hurtful speech these days is standing up for a Jew who is evicted out of his house or denouncing violence in Amona. This bill is meant to create a police state, and I think it is outrageous that Israel would consider such a measure. There is no freedom of expression. Every expression is carefully regulated by a government authority that needs to track the individual down for punishment if he or she opposes the policy. This bill is meant to make it easier for the government to enforce a police-state, a real shame for Israel.

May I please, in a very kind manner, ask you to please make it clear what you believe regarding Yahshua? If you have some information which affects my eternal soul, don't you think you should share it with me. It is very difficult to understand you. If you have the truth then please share it. I am a Messianic. I am a firm believer in the Hebrew roots of the faith. I do my best to be Torah observant. I believe that Yeshua, or Yahshua, which ever you prefer, is the Mashiach. I have ask you before, but you never respond. Within your faith Paqud, do you have a responsibility to spread the News of Mashiach? Or would you just let me continue on the wrong road, if in fact it is wrong as you imply in your talkbacks. If Christanity is wrong, tell us what is right. If Judaism is wrong, tell us what is right. If the Messianic faith is wrong, tell me what is right so I can be saved. Is that to much to ask? You come on in your talkbacks and rail against everyone as being ignorant. Why don't you teach us? I am listening. I will identify myself to you. I have no fear of that. I will e-mail you, I will do what ever you wish. I have tried to use your web sight but it offers no way to contact you or ask you questions that I can determine. So, whats up with all this Paqid? Shall I just go on in my error and go to Sh'ol? Is that your belief?

Joe ,   Los Angeles, CA   (01.17.08)
The article says websites over 50,000 hits on the website daily, not over 50,000 talkbacks daily, will be affected. Judging from all the different places people place their talkbacks from and the fact that most people wouldn't even bother to post a talkback (I'm the only person I know who does post TBs), I would guess that this site gets more than 50,000 hits daily, easily. As regards Ynet, Haaretz and Arutz Sheva becoming al-Jazeeras, I meant that statement only in regards to AJ's TB policies. If you somehow make it past AJ's word filter which doesn't even let you write the word 'Jew' or 'Muslim', they just might publish your TB if they deem it 'clean' enough to post. G-d forbid this bill would force us to jump through those hoops when posting on Ynet... I think a media reform would probably be best brought forth by establishing an independent news outlet with a focus on factual correctness, not political correctness. Sure it will make people angry, but facts are facts, regardless of how they are spinned. Let's let the public decide, by means of their dollar/shekel/euro/riyal, what provides greater value and let the chips fall as they may... When it comes to ignorant TBs like the one you quoted, we have proof positive that some peoples' opinions aren't worth posting. This is why I try to challenge people whose opinions and beliefs are inconsistent with simple facts and logic. I believe that when people behave like idiots, they deserve to have their idiocy spelled out to them, and the same holds true for me and my opinions. Let's hope this bill will die a slow death...

hymie zoltveis ,   NYC, NY, USA   (01.17.08)
Come on, stupid Knesset. Don't try to shut up Jews that are frustrated with your ineptness and foolsihness. Instead of trying to shut up critics, spend the effort going after islime scum, and blowing them to kingdon come. Grind the muslimes into dirt, and remove any trace of them from the land. Just because you are traitor to Israel and Torah, DO NOT SILENCE DEVOTED JEWS.
