1. gazans want resistance more than electricity
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.20.08)
and they are more than willing to make that sacrifice. if they are asked to stop terror in order to get uninterrupted electricity back, they unhesitatingly and categorically refuse. the whining, crying, and complaining only serves to make israel look bad. of course they want the electricity, but the price (peace) is too much for them to give.

samanta ,   Gaza-   (01.20.08)
Sun is the solution
3. UNRWA warns of "significant impact"
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.20.08)
Um, that was kind of the idea, duh. These UN guys are obviously not chosen because they have a high IQ. I would add that the activities of the EU & especially the UN in financing refugee aid to Palestinians is one of the chief reasons for the continuation of the conflict. In effect, the EU & the UN have been subsidizing a war against us for 60 years in the guise of humanitarian aid. Basically, the EU & the UN finance terrorism. Where was the humanitarian aid when Jews were expelled from the Arab countries? Not only was there no aid, the subject is scrupulously avoided. Is it because we don't hijack planes, fly airplanes into tall buildings, send suicide bombers into nightclubs, cafes, & pizzarias? Is it because we absorbed all the refugees without making a fuss about it? We didn't create giant refugee camps as breeding grounds for terrorists & extremists. Anyway, instead of complaining about non-violent sanctions, they should be congratulating us on our restraint. Would they prefer a massive ground invasion of Gaza?
4. Collective pusnishment
Clive ,   Karmiel,Israel   (01.20.08)
By using collective punishment we are assuming that the majority will prevent the minority from sending rockets into Israel. That never worked before anywhere and there is no reason why it will work now. Actually is seems to me a very childish political response, which leads me despair of or current leadership.
5. Gazans can use rockets for power
Petra ,   usa   (01.20.08)
that's what they changed for, rockets over power.
6. Hamas now has a clear cut choice !
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (01.20.08)
Hamas has an easy choice to make. Stop the kassams and get fuel. Fire kassams and have power cuts. Israel should have done this over a year ago and saved Sderot and the outlying areas a lot of grief. Mike
7. #4 Well big smart...what will work, eh? more talk? :-)
(01.20.08)
I think its only the first step - their community voted for Hamas, their leaders openly call for Israel's destruction and applaud every thing that is done to hurt Israel. The Pals are in fact collectively punishing Israelis by terrorizing them. Cut off their power - its insane that Israel keeps her enemies. Stupid!
8. Boo Hoo, Boo Hoo, sob, sob, No power!
vicky ,   Ashkelon Israel   (01.20.08)
I feel sorry for them! They ask for everything they get. They prefer weapons than electricity, that helps them to see what they are doing in their bomb factories. Cut the whole thing off. Bomb the plant. Thats what they keep trying to do here in Ashkelon. They've just been given another load of dosh, build their own power and buy their own fuel for it from someplace else. WE OWE THEM NOTHING.
9. Gaza scientists should convert fertiliser into energy
Alan ,   SA   (01.20.08)
Obviously when the process that causes such instant explosive energy can be harnessed,Gazans should have no problem with power .
10. Why is Israel rsponsible for Gaza?
Harry ,   London   (01.20.08)
Why can't they get fuel and supplies from their Islamic brothers in Egypt???? Don't the Arabs understand what DISENGAGEMENT means? Does the USA supply fuel and supplies to Mexico or Canada?
11. My heart is breaking
Cameron ,   USA   (01.20.08)
Breaking, I tell ya, at the thought of all those pathological people sitting in the dark. Brave warriors must be prepared for sacrifice & discomfort in the name of a sacred, holy cause.
12. fuel to gaza
marco ,   pardes hana   (01.20.08)
they had fair warning time. how long did they think the israeli govt was going to wait. as it is they were patient and gave gaza enough time to show their true colors, which they have done ever so stubbornly. peace could be around the corner, or never. gaza wake up!!
13. #4 - collective punishment worked with Japan and Germany
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (01.20.08)
and not a word has been heard about wars from either of them ever since. When you said "Collective punishment" I thought that you meant, Sderot. Then I and many others would have understood you, but right now we don't have a clue what you're talking about. no kassmas = fuel kassams = no fuel Even Pavlov's dogs understood this but it might be too much for Hamas! Mike

Jeremy ,   UK   (01.20.08)
Yes, collective punishment worked, it worked so well after WW1, that the Germans came back in 1939 for some more, and if it hadn't been for the rest of the world, we would be speaking German today. What is happening in Israel is illegal, and a crime...period. Btw, you might want to educate your self on war, and punishment. The people of Palestine have no hope, most of their land was taken away, what they were left with, was nothing, they are subjugated to occupation that is illegal, their homes destroyed with American made bulldozers, they are bombed with American made F-16's, snipers shoot Palestinian Children in the head, and many other crimes against humanity daily. Don't believe me? Go ahead to youtube, and watch how they use Children as human shields, how they use the "broken bones" policy. All this is done with the full %100 percent of the American government, that freedom loving, pro democratic peaceful nation. If there is one thing the Israeli people just don't seem to get....you will never have peace, ever, as long as you oppress, kill a people. If there is one thing, the only thing Israelis learned from the Germans, is collective punishment, oppression, killing, just read the posts.

17. Jeremy, I grant you the favor of kissing my evil American...
Cameron ,   USA   (01.20.08)
18. Jeremy , UK. Let's look closer at your
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (01.20.08)
Supposition. Why did Germany come back in 1939 and not again in 1969? Wellllll. Lets see. Germany was OCCUPIED by the USA, Russia, Britain and France. This was the rump Germany that had lost massive amounts of territory in two world wars. I've heard it said that there will not be a third world war, with Germany in it. (They can't afford to lose anymore territory and survive as a nation.) In short we civilized them. We made sure that the radical Nazism that started World War II never was allowed to reestablish itself. Now on the other hand let's look at Israel and the Arabs. Israel is so small that they don't dare lose a war. The Arabs on the other hand have the resources of over 20 Arabic counties to fall back on as well as the support of Eurabia. The radicalization is supported and allowed to spread and in short they believe that if they just persist they will win. Just like in the crusades, it may take 2 or 3 hundred years, but if they are allowed to continue, so will the conflict. In short the only way the Arabs will ever accept peace is when Israel annexes any scrap of territory that they must fight for to achieve security. This should start in Gaza. The Arabs there should be forcefully relocated to Lebanon or Syria, and it shouldn't ever stop until they accept defeat and make a true peace. Period!!
