31. They don't want food!
Mark ,   Phoenix USA   (01.26.08)
Have the leftists not been following the story? The Gazans want TV sets and cigarettes. That's what they are bringing back from Egypt (most likely wit more weapons). If you invited these animals over to your homes to feed them, they'd take your food and then kill you. More people appeasing the enemy. FOOLS!!!
32. #8 We disengaged, no? No. You engaged the “punitive” action
observer   (01.26.08)
The capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in June 2006 was irrelevant in the general scheme, but it provided an opportunity for the Israelis to escalate even more. After all, there was no strategy that followed the decision of Sharon to remove 8,000 settlers from Gaza whose presence complicated “punitive” missions. Since then, the “punitive” actions continue and have become a strategy. First Rain was replaced by “Summer Rains.” In a country where there is no rain in the summer, one can expect only showers of F-16 bombs and artillery shells hitting the people of the Strip. Summer Rains brought a novel component: the land invasion into parts of the Gaza Strip. This enabled the army to kill citizens and present it as an inevitable result of heavy fighting within densely populated areas and not of Israeli policies. Summer Rains, Autumn Clouds When the summer was over came the even more efficient “Autumn Clouds:” beginning on Nov. 1, 2006, the Israelis killed 70 civilians in less than 48 hours. By the end of that month, almost 200 were killed, half of them children and women. http://www.ilanpappe.org/Articles/Israeli%20Recipe%20for%202008.html
33. DISCUSSTING ARTICLE!!
Ginette ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.26.08)
That Uri Averny does not even look Jewish...I hope he is not "one of us". He must be one of the half breed Christian-Jew who is trying to impose his will on Israel and the Israeli People. He must be part of that sect that "prays for Israel" without regard for the Jewish People suffering there, meaning the habitants of Sderot...why does not he protest for them? For their welfare? for their suffering. I say let them deliver their goods to the gazans then seal the walls and gates and doors and any other way they could return to Israel which they must despise anyways. Reading this, I want to vomit, preferably on Averny's face.
34. 12 - please don't confuse the IDF with Olmert's government!
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (01.26.08)
the IDF takes orders from the government. The failures in Lebanon were because of our supposed government saying, "wait; go; stop; go; yes and no" etc Not a way to win a war :-( Israel didn't lose but for the first time it ended up where it began - on the same border! Hopefully Olmert and his gang will be replaced very soon now! Things will be clearer in a few days. Mike
35. Your brains are in the toilet
Ignatious Mucklefutz ,   USA   (01.26.08)
The 17 year old from Sderot is an immature and ignorant adolescent. However, you can excuse her idiocy because a teenager's brain hasn't fully develped and she is obviously troubled. Averny and the other leftists are just delusional and oppositional people who feel a need to attack their own. What galls me about these psychos is their arrogance in claiming the "peace" label. Most Israelis want peace. They've been trying to make peace for decades and they have taken foolish chances that have led to thousands of dead and maimed Jewish Israelis. For years, Israelis wanted to believe that Oslo would lead to peace. Then they followed the pied piper of disengagement and brutalized their own in removing the settlers from Gaza. All they have to show for it are rockets raining down on the Negev communities and more terrorism. That is why 2/3 of Israelis are against further territorial give-backs. They finally learned that in order to have peace, both sides must want it. Averny and his ilk don't learn from past experiences and refuse to end their denial about the intentions of Hamas and Fatah. So, in effect, they have become delusional traitors to their people. They are like the Jewish-American communists who denied Stalin's crimes against humanity and served as spies for the USSR against America. They did not consider themselves to be the traitors they were and insisted they were doing their spying for a noble cause-- like the workers paradise or something like that. By the way, don't leftists work? Is that 17 year old going to join the IDF or is she going to join Hamas?
36. LEFT AND ARABS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ALLIES
Jorge ,   Tegucigalpa   (01.27.08)
they have always had the same agenda, the destruction of freedom. They have always hated the west and democracy and of course Israel and the Jews. It is good to see that their actions and inclinations in Israel have brought their own demise from the political arena.
37. I'm offended by their intellectual dishonesty
Ilan ,   Aiel   (01.27.08)
They take us all for fools. Sederot has been shelled for a couple of years , but only in the context of showing their identification with the plight of Gaza do they even bother to mention the shelling of Sederot. Like A.B. Yehoshua the PLO sixth column of Avenery are a terrible danger to the us all.
38. *BARF*
Elchonon ,   Chevron   (01.27.08)
Enough.. if they can justify rockets as a result of "IDF aggression" #29.., I see no reason to justify our not providing gazans with royal service. Arabs here have become such parasites.. all we hear is whining "blame the jews" and more "wana mali" (not my problem) as they feed off europeen donations and food packages and refuse to earn a honest cent. Avnery you sick scumbag, go move to gaza.. c'mon burn your israeli passport and LEAVE! I promise we wont miss you!
39. Hamas leader, Hanieh: even if Israel flood us with fuel we..
Hanna   (01.27.08)
...We won't stop attacks until the liberation of all Palestine.(until we occupy the whole Israel and kill all Jews) How many times should Palestinains and Hamas and different Arab terrorists groups repeat they don't want land or peace but to occupy Israel and kill all Jews, until you believe them? how many times should Iranians leaders say they want to wipe Israel off the map until you belive them? Iranians and Syria and Saudi Arabia are the funders of Hamas and all thoes other terrorists groups. Why deny the truth? why so much effort for apeasing the enemies. believe the truth and accept it . No matter how painful the truth is, its still better than lying to yourself. Only be accepting the truth you can find solucitons for problems. Islamist governments together with Saudi Arabia and some other rich Arab countries don't need lands for their people or for Arab Palestinians, they don't need the Israeli leftists to take food for them. in many Arab countries like Abu dhabi and kuwait and Saudi Arabia,Arabs live in palaces that you cannot even dream about. they dont' need you poor Israelis to feed their people. what they want is the destruction of Israel. They say it but you pretend to be deaf.
40. Uri Avneri
NYC Girl   (01.27.08)
It looks as if he never really got out of the pornography business after all.
41. Why are you not in Sderot? TRAITPRS !!
Zippy   (01.27.08)
42. #32, Observer and the big lie
Phil ,   US   (01.27.08)
Aside from a totally incoherent post, #32 just lies about everything. His reference is that of a treasonous former professor who no longer lives in Israel. He also cxonveniently misses the point of the subject and confuses the ongoing problems in Gaza with the war against Hezbollah. This is so typical of the psycho bigots.
43. #23 be accurate, Israel Only allow or block the supply
observer   (01.27.08)
but does not do supply.
44. That 17 y.o. belongs in a mental institution!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.27.08)
avnery and the others should be jailed for treason. The jail should be built in Sderot and not have a roof.
45. why don't you guys make peace with the Palestinians
hans smith   (01.27.08)
and then they won't hate you to the point of wanting to kill you? Well done, Gaza! Israel pushed Gaza and Gaza pushed back and now Israel has a way more huge problem than it did before - ha ha. Shouldn't have put such pressure on Gaza; what is Israel going to do now? Liberating themselves from the worlds largest prison was perfectly within those peoples rights and thats all there is to it. I went to give money to the Palestinians as soon as I heard about them liberating themselves and I'm sure many millions of others around the world are doing the same thing. It looks sooooo good on Israel.

new_york_loner ,   Rochester, NY   (01.27.08)
How dare you call me a racist? Is criticizing the actions of the Jewish State or its citizens racism in and of itself? But wait, I've been told that Jews are not a race, they are a racially diverse group of people who share a common religion - Judaism. So, Leah, are you claiming that I am a racist or are you accusing me of being an anti-religionist who is disparaging Judaism and its believers? You claim that Israel is more compassionate than any other nation in the world? I agree, if we are talking about compassion for Jewish Israelis and Jews in the Diaspora. Where is the compassion for the innocent bystanders who are killed when the IDF assassinates a terror suspect? Where is the Israeli compassion for Lebanese civilians who are killed or maimed by "dud" Israeli cluster bombs that were rained down upon civilian areas in Lebanon during both wars? Where was the renowned compassion of the Israelis on June 8, 1967, when the Israeli Air Force and Navy knowingly attacked the USS Liberty? Thirty-four US sailors died and dozens more were gravely injured in the sustained and brutal attack. The record is clear, despite the rhetoric; the Israeli government and the old apartheid regime in South Africa were sob-sister soul mates. The arms industry in Israel flourished as orders for anti-riot hardware flowed in from the apartheid S. African government. Where was the Israeli compassion for the blacks in S. Africa? Where is the compassion for the displaced Palestinian Arabs who live in squalor in the camps while you enjoy your Starbucks coffee?
47. Pfui
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (01.27.08)
The Left is quick to defend our enemies and slow to defend our own people. Their lack of solidarity and compassion for the plight of our own people is disgusting.
48. a mother but not from gaza
mother ,   gaza   (01.27.08)
iam from jerusalem i have food and electricity i do not vote to any part // but sure there is a mother in gaza with no food and have a sick daughter with no midicine and she did not vote to hamass /the question now what is the sin to fell with this mother it is not politicaly but humanity
49. New York Loner
Leah   (01.27.08)
I certainly do think you sound like a racist when you make comments like you did. You are trying to make the Israelis alone into these brutal oppressors, excepts for maybe the few who showed up at this rally to show support for Palestinians who ironically would murder them given only half the chance . I think you and other's who hold similiar opinions are prejudiced against Jews. You try to hide this under the smokescreen of being just "antizionist". I don't buy it though. More than half the world's Jewish population resides in Israel. To demonize most of them excepts a few left wings nutcases is like saying "I have nothing against black people I just don't like Africans or their policies". And while I do not deny there have been times individual Israeli soldiers have behaved in reprehensible ways towards enemy civlians, which I condemn. I do not believe it is a policy of the Israeli army to deliberately target civilians unlike Palestinian terrorists who try to murder Israelis every single day. You accuse me of having no compassion for victims of war and violence? I can assure you your wrong, I have alot of compassion for people who have suffered on both sides unlike you who obviously feel sympathy for the Arab side only. And the liberty incident was proved to be a tragic mistake by the US government itself. The Israelis were at war and mistook the ship for enemy vessel. They have apoligized and compensated families of victims. There have been dozens of US victims of Palestinian terror, including infants and young children who were US citizens. I have never seen any terror group apoligizing or offering to compensate their families.Where is your compassion for them? Where is your compassion for the 27 Israeli schoolchildren murdered in their elementary school in Maalot by PLO terrorists? Or the countless suicide bombing victims like the 30 elderly Holocaust survivors blown up while celebrating Passover,or the Israeli families blown up while eating in a restaurant or cafe like the girl who saw her mother and infant daughter blown up in front of her while they ate icecream? Where is your compassion for the 2 young Jewish boys, including the 12 year old American,Israeli boy who was beaten and tortured to death along with his friend by Palestinians in a cave outside his home a few years back? Where is your compassion for the 4 little girls who saw their pregnant mom being brutally murdered in front of them before being shot in face by your poor, innocent Palestinians? Where is your compassion for the citizens of Sderot who are literally held hostage day and night by terror you sympathize with, while you sit in front of your computer typing messages totally indifferent and uncaring to what they have to deal with day in and out?
50. Responding to Leaj, poster #49
new_york_loner ,   Rochester, NY   (01.27.08)
Thank you for responding, Leah. I can certainly understand your passion on this issue, but cooler heads must prevail. Just because I understand some of the motivation for terrorist acts does not mean that I condone them; on the contrary, I have always condemned the use of violence directed at innocent civilians; such tactics are barbaric and extremely counter-productive. Is my alleged anti-Zionism merely cover for anti-Semitism? Of course not. I have read T. Herzl's "Der Judenstaat" twice and I believe that the Zionist enterprise was well intentioned, but the vision suffered from fatal blind spots. Herzl never mentioned the words "Islam", "Muslim", "Mosque" or "Jihad", for example, in his 1896 manifesto. The man was quite deluded and he deluded an entire people who followed him and tried to actualize his utopian plan. Certainly, one can criticize the logic, wisdom and the efficacy of Herzl's scheme without being motivated by racism. If preserving and sustaining the world's Jews is the goal, concentration of the Diaspora is contra-indicated, as concentration facilitates annihilation. - the Nazis understood this. If survival of the Jewish people and Judaism is the goal, then dispersal makes a lot more sense than concentration. Herzl's concentration scheme facilitates would-be existential threats to the world's Jews. As Herzl predicted, the most anti-Semitic Western nation-states would be the most enthusiastic supporters of Zionism - the reason being that the Jewish homeland would be used as a dumping ground for the world's unwanted Jews. Herzl keenly recognized that support for Zionism could act as cover for anti-Semitism. Herzl, in spite of his genius, foolishly thought that he could use bigotry to fight bigotry. If the USA really loved the Jewish people, President Truman would have invited the Holocaust survivors and the entire Jewish Diaspora to come to America in 1946. Instead, the Americans opted for the dumping ground solution. We are suffering the consequences of that original sin today. As for the USS Liberty incident, you have accepted the official explanations. I do not. I have a friend nearby who survived that attack. I believe his first-person account of what actually took place. The incident illustrates that the Israelis will not hesitate to act in what they perceive to be their best interests, no matter what. The USA, on the other hand, operates under the goofy premise that what's good for Israel is good for the USA, no matter what. In closing, I must say that I do have compassion for those Israelis who are victims of terrorist attacks, but collective punishment against the entire Palestinian Arab population only feeds the cycle of hate and revenge. These “left-wing” Israelis who went to help the Gazans are to be commended for their compassion and their bravery. They are redeeming Israel’s tarnished honor. I salute them - maybe you should too. Anyone who wishes to engage me in civil debate can find my blog by Googling my username, Thank you for the reasoned discourse.
51. #42 so, you believe only the Israelis, like Olmert
(01.27.08)
52. #49 Leah
hans smith   (01.28.08)
I feel the need to weigh in on your exchange with new_york_loner as I believe you to be a well-meaning person but sadly misled on the USS Liberty Incident. You wouldn't feel very good if I took the terror-appeasing position that the Maalot or the Passover massacres were simply tragic mistakes, would you? I sense that you have a great deal of compassion for human beings and with this in mind I implore you to reconsider that the attack was a complete betrayal of many nations, including Israel, contemplating some of the following points, to name just a few: 1. why would the captain of the ship in addition to its crew members believe that the attack was deliberate? 2. why was an Israeli pilot court-martialed for refusing to attack the USS Liberty? 3. why would Ward Boston, lead counsel in the investigation of the incident, state decades later that he had been ordered to conduct a cover up? 4. why would many high-ranking members of America's government, including (to name only two) deputy director of NSA Louis Tordella and Secretary of State Dean Rusk believe that the attack was deliberate? 5. why would not one, but two arms of Israel's armed forces, the air force AND the navy, commit a case of mistaken identity in clear weather as well as during daytime for well over an hour? You have to remember, in time of war no one can afford to make mistakes as they may directly lead to death; incidents such as the USS Vincennes and the USS Stark, both of which I believe truly were mistakes, were single salvos and were quickly established 6. why would not one but two rescue missions be ordered to return by order of all the way back home in Washington? Which would of course, mean that President Johson would have somehow had to have been involved, but what if that actually happened to truly be the case? I don't care what anyone might think of me, but all of us may just have to ponder the possibility that somewhere out there, some people have an interest in manipulating us, just like Hitler did with the Germans. Compare it to any other example of one party attacking another: if a girl was adamant that she had been raped, would you believe the guy who denied it, would you uncritically take the word of the attacker over the victim or would you approach the situation very, very critically?
