1. you are what you eat
bob ,   potomac md usa   (01.27.08)
Moroccan food is the best--have you ever had Polish food? Yeccccchhhh the Polish motto--if it ain't overcooked, it ain't edible you are what you eat
2. I think I know why
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (01.27.08)
Mizrachi Jews have more family members to rely on and more family get togethers. Many Polish Jews lost family in the Shoah so they don't have this social network. Plus, Mizrachi Jews eat more at these family functions, and perhaps not always the healthiest foods. But they sure eat a lot! And another thing, Mizrachi Jews tend to be more traditional in their religious outlook and this is a direct connection to happiness.
3. American olim are for sure the most abused and oppressed.
A ,   Jerusalem   (01.27.08)
We come with the greatest expectations and are treated like scum. I haven't gotten paid in two months, and Betuach Leumi has done nothing for my cold. The voice whispers oh so quietly...."Yerida......yerida...."
4. Ashkezazis saw many pogroms &other bad things !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ashkenazi ,   Galut   (01.27.08)
bob read correct !! Polish food is not bad ,you see Polish Ashkenazis are healthiest ! But also Jews in Poland eat their own cooked food. That in Middle East food is over cooked not polish !
5. #3 - Bituach L'eumi has done nothing for your cold???
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (01.27.08)
What do you expect them to do??? And you haven't gotten paid in two months?? There are places you can turn to for situations like that. You've got a mouth? Use it! How long have you been here??
6. We get along well with Moroccan Jews
Palestinian   (01.27.08)
They are people who understand what the big picture is... Not only Moroccon Jews, but also Iraqi Jews too... All others coming from Europe and America are unweildy biased against the Palestinian people.
7. American Olim
Mark   (01.27.08)
I made Aliya to Israel in 1983 at the ag eof 13 with my mom and sister and was never placed in an Ulpan. I didnt learn Hebrew in scholl and I did terribly. So I left in 1986 and have not been back in 22 years. I still support Israel, but at that time the aliya was not a good decision for all of us. Yes I felt disappointed when we arrived for many reasons. I think I woul dhave been better off not making aliya in the ifrst place. That does't make me less of a Jew or supporter of Israel, it's just the truth!
8. #1 u r right about the Polish way of cooking
anonymous, obviously ,   Israel   (01.27.08)
My ma-in-law, who always claimed to be Lithuanian but was really Polish, boiled everything to death in far too much water. My kids could only distingusih between her kneidlach and geffilte fish by size - kneidlach were smaller. Polish food can be cooked well and Moroccan food can be cooked badly but by and large the East European food that has come to be known as "Jewish" food is distinctly bland; could almost be English :). I must confess that my origins are Polish/Bessarabian via London.
9. i'm half morrocon and half ashkenzi
idan ,   haifa.israel   (01.27.08)
no wonder i'm so confused. symptoms are: complaining about being happy, and happy about being unhealthy!
10. Number 6
ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (01.27.08)
Now that's a nice piece of one state-ism in sheep's clothing - all the non-regionally indigenous Jews can leave, all the Middle Eastern ones can stay. Its like saying that we get on better with Palestinians from Ramallah than from Hebron - so we'll talk to the former and not the latter. At present no-one's "talking" to anyone, so what the hell!!
11. Reality vs. perception
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (01.27.08)
Ashkenazim are actually better off, but we always expect more!
12. #9 That's funny!
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (01.27.08)
13. The facts speak for themselves
Efi G ,   Washington DC   (01.27.08)
Most american Jews are oblivious to the rest of the jewish world. Israelis dont like their bad attitudes. No disciplin. Simple. As far as cooking, overcooking foods is stupid as the vitamins are then cooked out as well. Not too smart. Sefardic jews are generally nicer, more hospitable people. Less money-hungry.
14. well this IS the middle east
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.27.08)
not surprising that asians/westerners/africans do not feel so much at home here.
15. Of couse, Morrocan women..
Josh   (01.27.08)
...are beautiful.
16. Suppose Russians refused to talk at all?
Damir ,   Russia   (01.27.08)
I do not understand.
17. No. 6
(01.27.08)
I think you'll find that most of the delusional ultra-leftists in Israel are Europeans and Americans who are often blindly sympathetic to the Palestinians, while Israelis who are originally from the Middle East tend to be a lot more realistic. On the other hand, if you're talking about Palestinians having more of a cultural affinity with Middle Eastern Jews, then you're absolutely correct.
18. 2 funny its the 21st c.e. & we're still yaking about being
from overthere ,   instead of being   (01.27.08)
19. #16: A few options
(01.27.08)
- not actually Jews - can't be bothered with the language - have such unrealistic expectations of what they deserve in Israel, they would blow a hole in any such survey
20. #19 - Russian-Israelis
Raz   (01.27.08)
Do you even live in Israel? Most Russian-Israelis I know are 80% proud Jews. The 20% that aren't Halachically Jewish are still proud Israelis and defend our country against our enemies. They also fit well into the Israeli society. Leave your "better-than-though" attitude in your self-imposed ghetto.
21. #6 why wouldn't you get along?
(01.28.08)
Same mentality.
22. Conclusion: Complaining is good for your health
DC ,   IL   (01.28.08)
23. #16 Because this study is racist
Drouch   (01.28.08)
They are somewhere before arabs .... "Grade B" goods. Why not to examine all citizens of Israel?
24. to #5 Chaya - I'd love to take your advice, but you're crazy
A ,   Jerusalem   (01.28.08)
It's been well documented through your talkbacks. You're a little bit of a loon.
25. i'm half sfardi and half ashkenzi too
hanna ,   jerusalem   (01.28.08)
are we also happiest AND healthiest and maybe confused...but it's ok...?
26. #13 I agree w/ just about everything you wrote except for
(01.28.08)
the money- hungry part. #15 , I disagree. Do you mean the dyed blond hair, tight clothes and dark make-up , and attitude problems are beautiful? # 21 I totally agree with you!
27. 23 - studies about israeli arabs are innumerable
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.28.08)
you're right that these studies are racist - there is overwhelming bias in favor of the arabs.
28. Moroccan girls make me happy :)
(01.28.08)
but then again so does taquilla
29. Scientific or Personal - Survey?
S Judah ,   London   (01.28.08)
Are these just views or based on an examanation of what the respondants say? ie Are we saying that Moroccan Jews complain more about their health or do they have more real health issues?
30. #20: You are so naive
#19 ,   Israel   (01.28.08)
Not only do I live in Israel, I see how the government and citizens miss warning signs of the destructive post-Soviet arrogance and self-entitlement. More than that, I see that the same pro-American-Dream Israel-bouncing ex-Soviets feel the same indignance EVERYWHERE. If you really care, have someone translate their Russian "I Heart Israel, blah blah blah" conversations for you - you will find some ugly, ugly surprises.
