1. Peretz should recognize
Sandy ,   Middle Israel   (01.31.08)
... that this is an excellent time to keep his mouth shut. But reading the public mood was never his strong point, was it?
2. But Peretz took the job ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.31.08)
Knowing full well he was unqualified for such a position. And Olmert appointed him in one of many sleazy political deals also knowing, but not careing, that he was incompetent. What kind of political system allows a rabble-rousing union hack to become DM? And the same goes for all our Ministers, not one of whom is appointed because of qualifications & proof of competence.
3. Peretz paid a "political price"
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.31.08)
You whining SOB, people lost their lives because of your incompetence & all you can do is cry about the "political price" you paid.
4. If Peretz is unhappy with the Barak and Mofaz
aaron ,   ra'anana   (01.31.08)
he should vote no-confidence in the govt
5. #2
Joseph ,   Israel   (01.31.08)
He took the DM job because he thought that the next IDF mission was the eradication of Jewish villages in Judea and Samaria and he saw how easily Sharon destroyed Gush Katif. At the time, and apparently still, he does not believe the Arabs who say that they will destroy Israel are the enemy.
6. Peretz paid the price because he's an idiot
Barron ,   Israel   (01.31.08)
He should never have been appointed Defense Minister. What a ridiculous appointment for a clueless - and very stupid - political hack.
7. After the Winograd report.
Harold Lane ,   Tel Aviv   (01.31.08)
It was not the task of the Winograd commission to add to its report recommandations for a solution of the Israelo-Arab conflict. However, if we want to stop the killings and avoid future wars we should have the courage to consider realistic original solutions. One of these possibilities is described at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2008/01/win-win-solution-to-arab-israeli_7104.html
8. Blame game.
chaim ,   Tzur Hadassa Israel   (01.31.08)

10. Blame game.
chaim ,   Tzur Hadassa Israel   (01.31.08)
Yeah, and Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the snake, and on and on. Since the garden, it's always easy to blame some else instead of taking the responsibility yourself. Do us a favor and disappear.
11. terry
caroline ,   capetown   (01.31.08)
terry is not off the mark. where to from here oh israel. the diaspora weeps for your lack of aGREAT LEADER TO LEAD THE NATION FORWARD.
12. Peretz paid the price
Rod ,   Raanana   (01.31.08)
because his pride caused him to take a job he was totally unqualified for. As a captain he is only qualified to command a company or column of soldiers not a whole IDF.
13. Peretz`s imcopotence is insulting to those that dies
Simon ,   TA Israel   (01.31.08)
This pathetic low level politician could at least admit he was out of his depth, unfortuenly he was playing with other peoples lives . He should be ashamed of his incopotence and appogise to the families of the bereaved instead of trying to inflate his ego.
14. SHUT UP PERETZ! YOU LOST THAT WAR BIG TIME!
stude ham   (01.31.08)
The fool of an idiot didn't even know which of the two shoe laces to use to tie the left boot. And he knew so little about the military that IDF machines and heavy equipment wound up causing huge traffic jams on the northern border... instead of being rapidly deployed in the war zones. this idiot was olmert's choice for defence minister... and olmert is directly responsible for that lebanese disaster. winograd must have been drinking or smoking sumtin or both..
15. Easy to blame....but this was expected
Hiram ,   Paris   (01.31.08)
How easy.....! How Israeli !!!! Blaming " the predecessor" who will then blame his own predecessor !. One thing is for sure : when IDF officers will be MORE CONCERNED about their duties WITHIN the army and less concerned about trying to find a position as a consultant fro some " privately owned " venture, the entire army will have more cohesion....but any army is only as good as the government....and the minister of defense , isn't it ?
16. Morrocan Jews are the happiest... and
(01.31.08)
the most dishonourable. Like the arabs, the sfardic jews cannot accept responsibility for anything.
17. amir peretz
nosson tzvi ,   jerusalem   (01.31.08)
I remember when Likud wanted to appoint Roni Bar-Or tobe minister of justice. Although he was a lawyer he was turned down as a legal authority. Our President, Shimon Peres, didn't even have to a soldier for one day to be able to be a top notch minister of defense. Amir Peretz always successful ,on the whole, in his rough political career has the ability to run any ministry as its political head. If anybody doesn't agree with me about Peretz- think about this. The venerable Labor Party elected him as their leader. Our prime minister agreed to have Peretz as defence minister because he didn't want to cede the power of the finance ministry to the Labor Party. Peretz , as we all know did not receive the defense department in its top form. Peretz might have trouble using binoculars but he certainly does not deserve all the above vile comments about him. Yiftach in his generation as Samuel was in his. That is the system. Such is life or .....!
18. Every success they claim as theirs
Ilan ,   Ariel   (01.31.08)
If a predecessor in office works years to establish a policy and someone like Peretz steps in even two weeks later he would take the credit. Here he was is in office long enough to at least start fixing problems. He didn't because he didn't think to do it either. If he had been there for a year more he would still of had done nothing.
19. To #16. Is Olmert a Morrocan Jew?
