Commissions of enquiry are a tried and trusted means means of diffusing public outrage and quickly getting the ball out of the penalty area. By the time the report is published the public has newer and more pressing concerns to worry about. As B. Michael says in the article, we all knew the facts and who was guilty - this was just an excercise to get them all off the hook.

On first reading one can see the the intuelectuel grand standing of B Michael. What is conventiently left out is that this commission was appointed by this same adoloscent PM to make sure he could escape any responsibility for his behavior. So B Michael and his liberal herzelists friends feel rest assured that adolescent behavior is a good thing that needs no correction nor has any long term effect on running a country.
