1. More Plocker nonsense but dangerous this time!
redmiike ,   TA - LA - London   (02.05.08)
I don't know whether Obama is a closet Muslim or not but 1 billion Muslims say he is 100% Muslim. Voting for him would be playing Russian roulette and his slip of the tongue is irrelevant. His two Muslim fathers and his education are what are important. Plocker does not know what is in Obama's heart or mind so it is reckless to suggest that Obama would be a 'safe' option. Unlike Plocker, many of us can walk and chew gum ie think about Winograd and other things at the same time! I generally ignore his ill considered articles but this one's article caught my attention. Mike
2. What drug is this guy smoking?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (02.05.08)
A McCain/Huckabee would be the best for Israel by far. Both Hilary and Barak could spell big trouble for Israel. Barak already has the Muslim vote especially in Michigan. As for Romney, it really doesn't matter because after today he will be finished.
3. Oh come on
Repo Man   (02.05.08)
So Obama is supported by anti-Israel groups / countries, therefore they'll suddenly like Israel if Obama does? Please. That is the weakest crap I've ever heard.
4. Wow..Stuningly banal
Boblybo Gilobob ,   usa   (02.05.08)
I thought the writer was going to layout policy or something useful. All we get is platitudes and this gem at the end, "She is more serious, more genuine, more level-headed, and much more suitable than both of them to lead America. I hope she wins." If you really believe that, you sir, have been duped. She will carry on Bush's targeted destruction of the State (51st state) of Israel.
5. "we were overly preoccupied .....................
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   CITY OF THOUGHT, MWS   (02.05.08)
with the Winograd report " NOTHING AFTER SUCH A NOTION COULD BE DEEMED CREDIBLE !
6. Jews should not vote democrat.
moysh ,   USA   (02.05.08)
American Jews worked hard, learned English, got an education, started small businesses. These Jewish values are the same as Republican values, not democrat values. Jews should vote Republican not democrat.
7. Obama dines with Edward Said. Enough said about his truth
mea too   (02.05.08)
This man has a history of anti-Israel associations. It is only lately he is making nice toward Israel. He has a minister that is his mentor who denounces Israel, is pro-Islam and believes Jews will be conquered in the end times. Obama dines with Edward Said, associates with his ilk. Do not trust this man.
8. Bush's wars for Israel cost Americans $300 mil/day
GA ,   USA   (02.05.08)
Any new president, no matter how much he tries to comply with Jewish lobbyists, will find it extremely difficult to continue in Bush's path and keep sending America’s troops to their death in Iraq or American $ to be wasted in the endless Iraq war, while Americans at home are losing their homes, jobs, and savings because of the declining economy caused by Iraq war.
9. really dumb piece
alan ,   alaska   (02.05.08)
This sentence really stands out: "Obama is a student and product of the best American universities," Some of the best universities have turned out the worst enemies of Israel too. so what. Mc Cain obviously is the best friend Israel could ever have. Clinton befriended Michael Lerner too and he sir is no friend of Israel. Voting for McCain is where it is at.
10. I voted for Obama today
CT JEW ,   Ct, USA   (02.05.08)
Truth be it that there is very little difference is views bewteen Hillary and Obama. McCain was a good candidiate for the last election, but the US really needs to move forward past the politics of fear as promoted by Bush (and Guliani) and MCCain to some extent. It really doesnt matter what the Israelis think, just like it really doesnt matter what we think in your election. The rightwing American nuts in this talkback cant see past their myopic viewpoints either.
11. This article should be in the Onion
Steve ,   San Francisco, USA   (02.05.08)
The writer says: "He is good for the Jews because he enjoys immense support among those parts of American and global public opinion that are hostile to Israel, openly or behind closed doors." Please someone explain why. Maybe I missed some subtlety of logic here that makes it not what seems at first reading. LOL!
12. Obama never done or said anything anti-Israel
Antonio ,   Haifa   (02.05.08)
There is nothing worse than Clinton. Wasn't the Oslo treason and what followed it enough? Anyone is better than Clinton, including Obama who has an excellent foreign policy work record.
13. Bigots like GA (#8) need to face the facts
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.05.08)
Exactly which "wars for Israel" is the US fighting? Certainly not Afghanistan. And not Iraq either. How many times must these folks be reminded that Israel's analysts and leaders, almost across the board, warned the US *not* to invade Iraq! They insisted, and they've been proven correct, that IRAN was the greater threat. When it became clear that the US was going in, Israel supported the US as an ally. Get past your hatred and ignorance. The Iraq War can't be blamed on Israel.
14. Bush war was for Oil not for Israel.
Ben Gurion   (02.05.08)
Bush invaded Irak for the oil . This trategy has been written by neo cons and Dick Cheney and has nothing to do with Israel.
15. Isn't brezinski an advisor to b.hussein osama?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (02.05.08)
He has carter's anti Israel former sec. of state as an adviser. He has left wing Jews advising him. Could there be bigger enemies to of our survival outside of the Israeli government? We should worry that we do not have politicians of our own that are good for Israel! We have cowards that worry about the enemy, the eurabian union, the U.S. department of state and the u.n. Let them worry about defending Israel and the hell with the rest of the world.
16. #6 Moysh's comments dumb and offensive
David ,   Los Angeles   (02.05.08)
You might believe Jews "should" vote Republican, based on your stereotypes of Jews (which border on anti-Semitic caricature). But the overwhelming majority of us don't and won't. Jews immigrated to this country because they believed immigrants here could find a better life, not lower taxes and easy business incorporation. Jews continue to vote for the party that is in favor of more education, more health care, more religious freedom, more opportunity to enter and be a part of the American dream. All the things that were denied us elsewhere. We don't vote for the party that tries to deny those things to others who came here after us or involuntarily. Not for the party that tries to force its religious beliefs on everyone else, cut spending on education, deny others who work hard the opportunity to share in the American dream. And all for a point or two off income tax for the the rich. But I guess in your mind Jews are just about the money. You go ahead and vote Republican along with your other 15%. Gesunte heit.
17. PRO-OBAMA = PRO-PALESTINIANS= DANGER
(02.05.08)
18. Plocker's point is intriguing but wrong
Sonny   (02.05.08)
If Obama is good for Israel because he has influence with the anti-Israel crowd, why hasn't Abbas been just as good for Israel, considering the anti-Israel crowd he leads? Abbas could talk peace with Olmert a million times and declare his recognition of Israel just as often, but it won't put a dent in the anti-Jewish hatred of the Palestinians who look to Abbas for leadership. It's wishful thinking to expect die-hard antisemites to accept Israel, just because their new champion pays lip service to pro-Israel voters. The author might actually be correct in assuming that McCain won't be good for Israel, but not for the reason he offers. McCain might be bad for Israel for the same reason he might be bad for America: if he wages war recklessly, he could break the bank and weaken the military, hastening the decline of American empire, thereby weakening American allies including Israel.
19. Beware!
Nick ,   Hollywood Fl. U.S.A.   (02.05.08)
Beware of Barack Obama ,undercover muslim , hidden agenda!
20. Is Obama’s support for Israel sincere? No
Ben Gurion   (02.05.08)
21. Denial is dangerous
Phil ,   US   (02.05.08)
The problem (and benefit) of denial is that it sometimes blinds you to reality. Unfortunately, there are many American Jews that hate Bush so badly and want to be inspired by Obama that they refuse to question his ties to a anti-Israel spiritual adviser like Rev. Wright. Remember, this bigot has praised the notorious antisemite Farrakhan, has called for economic sanctions against Israel and has attacked white people on a regular basis. Yet, the Jews of denial gloss over Obama's refusal to leave such a racist church and break off his relationship with Rev. Wright. Can you imagine wwhat the outcry would be from the Jews of denial if a Republican candidate belonged to a church that flew the confederate flag or had a pastor that demeaned women? It may be that Obama is really a good guy and a true supporter of Israel. I hope so but I don't know and neither do his supporters. I would like an explanation as to why Jews should trust a man who refuses to break ties with a known bigot just like I would want an good explanation as to why our hyopothetical Republican candidate would refuse to break ties with a confederate supporting and anti-woman church leader.
22. are you joking
(02.05.08)
any presiden will be good for Israel which president in the last 60 years was not good for Israel , which USA president dares not to be good for Israel , he will suicide his political future like Carter said .

The man wants to be elected! He'll say anything!!
30. One colour spectrum
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (02.05.08)
If the US political spectrum lies between the the two poles of "overwhelming support for hawkish Israeli views" on the one side and "Super Conservative ...traditional Likud" on the other, then there is a very large number of people (say maybe half the population) who comprise all the other colours known to man but are off the political spectrum altogether according to Sever Plocker. I guess as this sector of American society is mainly Africal American, Hispanic, and/or non-Zionist then they are (like the Arabs of Israel) not part of the Zionist discourse and not worthy of consideration by your columnist. Or was this just a case of mistransaltion?
