1. Winograd was a cover-up.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.06.08)
In spite of the harsh criticism & details on the mismanagement of the war, by not recommending elections & the removal of a failed gov't. it became just another cover-up for failure, a toothless document of no real consequence. That there were political motivations is beyond doubt. Winograd proves that our political system is non-responsive, unaccountable, & is not capable of self-reform.
2. Heck with the facts, must save Olmert
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (02.06.08)
This Winograd commission begins to smell like they reached their decision not based on the facts, but a political one. Olmert must resign now, today
3. why would anyone be suprised?? they are olmerts friends
yoni ,   jerusalem   (02.06.08)
i cannot imagine why anyone would have expected any more from a panel that was set up by this olmert guy himself!! how stupid are people that they cannot see more than two feet in front of their face. The natural conclusion of an investigation set up by olmerts friends and run by them will never be non biased. "who is considered wise? he who sees the future consequences of his actions"
4. contempt for democracy
Ruth ,   Beer Sheva   (02.06.08)
Democracy is based on the concept that the majority decides. I can't remember any caveat that the electorate needs to get Prof. Dror's approval first. Ironically I found this remark from 2002: <“There is no danger to Israel’s political democracy. There are free elections here and nothing is stopping them,” Dror said.> Oh yes, unless you and your fellow leftist stop them!
5. Leave the old man alone!
muka   (02.06.08)
Anyone in his age would want some peace and quiet. So, leave the man in peace.
6. israel
Yisraeli   (02.06.08)
Hurts me to say this, but Israel has become so corrupt to the core. There is no institution one can look for truth and justice. They have all been infiltrated and rotten to the core. More and more Israel is becoming a third world junta. Soon we will see a police state ruled by the elites (there are already plenty indications of such). Saddens me greatly.
7. @Muka
Ruth ,   Beer Sheva   (02.06.08)
anyone who wants peace and quiet would be better adviced not to accept any political appointment. Heck, I would also like to have peace and quiet and I am still not willing to hand over the decision making on Israeli politics to bunch of professors.
8. If you thought Winograd had zero credibility BEFORE
Beth Landau ,   TA, Israel   (02.06.08)
The very fact that Olmert hand-picked the commision stinks to the high heavens. We Israelis already knew this was a politically driven commission, but Dror's comments confirms it even more. It's time for an independent commission to be established and for Ehud Olmert to step down. Now Olmert being the loser that he is won't do so on his own..We the public must start pressuring Shas to leave this miserably corrupt Government ASAP!
9. I think we all understand the "context" quite well
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.06.08)
Likud MK Gilad Erdan is wrong when he says "the report should be tossed in the garbage". Winograd provides a valuable critique of both strategic deficiencies and systemic failing - in training, supplies, decision making - that led to operational failures. These need to be addressed, not investigated yet again. What Dror tells us is that the apportionment of blame at the *political* level was not dealt with, and not only because of the commission's mandate. For some, the "peace process" trumps everything, including the truth. Olmert's celebrations were premature. It's now clear why the Commission went easy on him.
10. In Isreal every two bit spinmeister and wannabee
Al   (02.06.08)
is deemed to be some professor and PHD etc. It seems the schools there are paper mills dispencing degrees like candy. Listen up my fellow dimwits. Israel from my western democratic perspective is looking like it will not survive the onslaught of that little man in the rain coat. Get it together, cut the BS and get ready to rumble. I mean serious rumble. The past 100 yrs have been a walk in the park compared to whats comming down.
11. #5, he should've thought of that before being appointed
Beth Landau ,   TA, Israel   (02.06.08)
He should have thought about that long and hard before sitting on that politically driven commission.
12. #5 Muka, I want peace and quiet from Kassams
Don Saliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (02.06.08)
13. Is there anything worse than corrupt judges?
Steve ,   Fla.   (02.06.08)
14. Utlimately, Eliyahu Winograd is responsible for this.
Steve ,   Fla.   (02.06.08)
Judge Winograd should be thoroughly investigated. His impartiality is questionable.
15. Beth #8: Let me tell you about Shas
Steve ,   Fla.   (02.06.08)
In order to get Shas to leave this corrupt government, we need to get to Shas' decision maker and spiritual advisor, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. Yosef decides. I submit to you, no one will touch this rabbi. No one. Not even Arutz Sheva will touch him in their editorials and Talkbacks. It's a disgrace that a rabbi can go unscathed while he keeps his party in a disreputable government.
16. Dror
Con ,   Us   (02.06.08)
What I have read of Prof Dror's comments in English were clearly not made as part of the Winograd Commission and calling him to a State agency for them is absolute nonsense and an attempt to stop free speech. His ideas about an improved form of Israel government are very good , valid worthy of consideration and clearly his own. The claims of his detractors are garbage. He has done nothing wrong at all. The idiot MK s making the stupid charges need to focus on the Report and work to improve Israel but apparently are too intent on keeping their hold on government and too lazy to make necessary changes.
17. More Proof Of Curruption
Joe Klein ,   USA   (02.06.08)
Gosh the evidence grows days by day one day one of these guys will spill the beans and confess to what's been going on in the Israeli government..
18. are Israelis not embarrest?
(02.06.08)
19. Did you say Peace ?...
Harold Lane ,   Tel aviv   (02.06.08)
As has been proven since 60 years, unfortunately, peace is not an option in this part of the world. The Muslims in general and the Arabs in particular do not make a lasting peace. The maximum that Israel can aim for is a temporary limited ceasefire or an armistice. We should not accept a limited ceasefire or an armistice, therefore, we should fight the terrorist, defeat them and destroy them. We should stop them with a clear cut victory as explained at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2008/01/stop-them-with-clear-cut-victory-part-i.html
20. Leftist agenda knows no bounds
Brod ,   USA   (02.06.08)
This is not surprising to see from a Leftist who has their own agenda. They support their causes of feeding to the usurpation goal of the ravenous wolves. Unfortunately, they are myopic and cannot see the consequences of their action which could lead the ravenous wolves to fulfill their Manifesto that calls for the destruction of Israel. Is this what the Leftists hope to achieve for Israel?
21. He just confirmed, what we already knew in the first place
Yossi Saar ,   Haifa Israel   (02.07.08)
