1. So what
DM   (02.07.08)

2. SHUT UP !!!! VATICAN , WE NO WANT YOUR PRAYER !!!!!!!!!!
AVINU ,   Galut   (02.07.08)
Stop your madness Vatican !!!!!
3. CATHOLIC PRAYER ON CONVERSION
TED KOPELMAN ,   SURFSIDE, FL, USA   (02.07.08)
DEAR HASHEM: PLEASE SHOW THE CATHOLICS THAT THEY ARE ONLY HERETICS FROM THE JEWISH RELIGION, AND IF THEY (THE MALES) ARE WILLING TO BE CIRCUMCISED, STUDY HEBREW, KEEP KOSHER (AND IF OVER 13) BE BAR (OR BAT) MITZVAHED, WE WILL FORGIVE THEM.
4. They should be forbiden to use the name of the Jews
Keren ,   Israel-SP   (02.07.08)
or the name of Israel in their prayers. I think this old nasty matter should go to seculars tribunals to be resolved. In a regular instance, this would not be accepted. One can not use the name of other person or group to base his/her own job.It is forbiden! Take just as example the recent case of Carla/Sarkozi/Reynair.They won the cause because it is forbiden to use another person as propaganda. Why in the case of the Church ,relating to Jews should be different? It is more than past the time to finish with this filth. The new testament is a creation based in the Old Testament in a clear manipulative way, using us as their base to their lies,to their evil,to their riches,to their power. The Church will end up paying us indemnity! And there will be not enough money to pay the suffering they have submited us in the last 2000 years. Proves abound!!!!
5. Catholics do have the right to pray as they wish
Steve ,   US   (02.07.08)
Cardinal Walter Kasper is right. Catholics have the right to pray as they wish. I also have the right to pray to the Almighty as I wish. I pray that He will judge Cardinal Walter Kasper and his church for this terrible prayer against me and my people. "Jews have prayers in their liturgical texts that we Catholics don't like," Kasper said. According to this article Cardinal Kasper is German. I don't pray to God using any liturgical text. I am however praying to God about this prayer Cardinal Kasper and the Vatican have authorized against me. Mine is a prayer from the heart.
6. A Prayer To Jesus. What's The Problem?
David ,   Marietta USA   (02.07.08)
IF Jesus is real, (the IF spelled with a capital "I"), then the Cardinal's prayer will be surely be answered, and frankly, we all will need to convert if we know what's good for us. Jesus will surely assist us in the fine details regarding the process. If, however, Jesus-demigod is a myth, as is a highly reasonable assumption, than the Cardinal's prayer will go unanswered, and we have nothing to worry about. We remain Jews. So why get our knickers in a wad about it? The guy means well, he just won't be able to deliver the goods as he hopes. And if he can, well "in spiritus sanctum, amen."
7. ADL needs to get over it
Joe Example ,   CA   (02.07.08)
I have no problem with the new wording. I agree that it's not an outright call for conversion.
8. Jews take out your anti-Christian prayers first!
(02.07.08)
9. Benedict !6
ben shlomo ,   singapore   (02.07.08)
The Lrd G-d of Yisarel has always been the G-d of Salvation. We Jews know our G-d.it is you xtians/catholics the lost poor souls. ben singapore
10. It should be the other way around!!
David ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.07.08)
It is rather the Christians who desperately need to convert to Judaism, as they constantly live in breach of God's major commandments, by practising idol worshipping, venerating a mortal as their God, breaking the Kashrut, causing ecological disasters in the process. I believe the Talmud warned about false religions, describing in great details very similar unethical practices performed by Christians. Men come a dime a dozen, but God Is One!
11. To Cardinal Kasper
dj ,   United States   (02.07.08)
"I must say that I don't understand..." It is simple, Cardinal Kasper. It is neutral and allowable to pray that all non Catholics convert to your way of thinking. Such a prayer positively expresses your belief in your beliefs. But, to single out Jews, or any others, is being critical and damning of others. This type of posture has repeatedly contributed to persecution of Jews by Catholics. Why is it not sufficient to praise your own beliefs? Why must you be critical of mine?
12. Not offensive...and I'm Jewish
David ,   New York, USA   (02.07.08)
The ADL needs to pick its battles more wisely. I'm Jewish and I don't find this prayer offensive at all. If Catholics can't say they want others to accept Christ, then they can't say what they really believe. I hope most people realize that the ADL does not speak for most Jews on this one.
13. This prayer will soon be useless
Natan ,   USA   (02.07.08)
We ,as Jews, are answering the Vatican's prayers. At the rate of intermarriage in the US and around the world there will be no need for this prayer..How sad!!!
14. DJ
Jane   (02.07.08)
We have been singled out because it is our religion from which Catholics appropriated almost everything they attribute to Jesus. We are the ones whose religion has been twisted until unrecognizable. Catholics are embarrassed that they will be found out - although we already know.
15. As a Roman Catholic I support the Pope
Yaakov Sullivan ,   NY   (02.07.08)
16. #15
Jane   (02.07.08)
Good for you. I'm thrilled
17. Prayer isn't a big deal compared to the past
Joel ,   US   (02.07.08)
At least the vatican is not directly involved with the murders and anti semitism that has Plagued Jews for so long in Europe and led to Pogroms, slaughters etc
18. Muslim
Jeff ,   Colorado Springs USA   (02.07.08)
If the prayer was to convert Muslims to Catholic, you would see a mass uproar
19. Vatican Prayer for Jewish People
Sam Clarke ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.07.08)
It would be a denial of the Christian faith not to pray for the Jewish people or any other group of people to put their faith in Jesus as Messiah. This is the heart of the Christian faith.
20. Jews, Jesus and Hollywood
David ,   Toronto   (02.07.08)
The whole story about Jesus is just as credible as any Hollywood movie, which were created by the same imaginative and inspired People: JEWS
21. I pray that people convert to Judaism
David ,   Boston, USa   (02.07.08)
IF it doesnt happen, it doesnt happen, but I could never imagine being anything but Jewish. I am surprised millions of others (thousands do convert every year) dont feel that way. I dont fear others beliefs/blessings and I do know I live in a Christian country, which respects all religions.
22. to # 15 yacub sullivan
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.07.08)
you a roman catholic ? did'nt you write some weeks ago that you give your [ ? ] children a "humanistic Judaism" education ? that your partner is muslim , and that you are gay ? Out of this , are'nt you anti Israeli too ? At the end i will think : this yacub is a fool .
23. Please tell us which prayers Xtians DONT like in Siddur
Alan ,   SA   (02.07.08)
(Jewish Prayer book)Please any Christian from the Pope down to an Altar Boy or even Delivery boy tell us what Jewish prayer mentions Christians. Please educate me .Maybe I have missed it -it is possible!I am willing to learn. We use the same prayer book as I think Jesus used .Im also not sure what Prayer book Jesus used-Im just askin.
24. There should be a Prayer for all abused children everywhere
Alan ,   SA   (02.07.08)
25. Seven Laws of Noah
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (02.07.08)
I believe we Jews should have a very vocal campaign to tell the non-Jewish world that they need to follow the Seven Noachide laws!
26. Nameless #8
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.07.08)
I am with Alan at #23. We don't, never have, and never will have any prayers that mention Christianity in any form whatsoever. But Cardinal Kasper by all means, change you prayer toward Muslims and watch the blood flow. I dare you.
27. 7 laws of Noah at your service
David ,   Toronto   (02.07.08)
1) Idolatry is forbidden. Man is commanded to believe in the One G-d alone and worship only Him. 2) Incestuous and adulterous relations are forbidden. Human beings are not sexual objects, nor is pleasure the ultimate goal of life. 3) Murder is forbidden. The life of a human being, formed in G-d's image, is sacred. 4) Cursing the name of G-d is forbidden. Besides honoring and respecting G-d, we learn from this precept that our speech must be sanctified, as that is the distinctive sign which separated man from the animals. 5) Theft is forbidden. The world is not ours to do with as we please. 6) Eating the flesh of a living animal is forbidden. This teaches us to be sensitive to cruelty to animals. (This was commanded to Noah for the first time along with the permission of eating meat. The rest were already given to Adam in the Garden of Eden.) 7) Mankind is commanded to establish courts of justice and a just social order to enforce the first six laws and enact any other useful laws or customs.
28. Jesus would not even pray with the christians!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (02.07.08)
He was Jewish and would not pray with heathens. Just wait till the Messiah finally comes for the first time and see what a 2,000 year old mistake was made.
29. Baruh ata hashem elokeinu melech haolam shelo asani goy

30. This is a Yaakov Sullivan spoof, not the real one
Jake   (02.07.08)
The real Sullivan is much more incendiary and engages in diatribes and tirades against Israel and the Jews on Haaretz. The one on this site is clearly a caricature cartoon version of the far less humorous one on Haaretz. Someone created a Sullivan satire to have a few laughs.
