31. Gee whiz, we really know how to choose our battles
Jake   (02.08.08)
I am bemused by some of the comments on this talkback. They are offended by a Catholic prayer that says "may all Israel be saved". But they are not offended that over a billion Moslems are praying for "all Israel to be wiped off the map". But, heck, just as long they don't believe in the "J man" or the trinity, it's just fine and dandy if even the rocks and the trees betray us monkeys and pigs over to them on Judgment Day. And to think that many of these people live in Western Christian countries.
32. Another example of Christian triumphalism and arogance. Alth
David Turner ,   Richmond, US   (02.08.08)
ough we tend to pay lip service to the three "monotheistic" religions sharing the same god, maybe the time has come to finally recognize and admit that we do not. The god of the Jews and the Moslems is a single figure; Christians have a God-the-father, Son and Holy Spirit. Clearly a departure from any conception of monotheism as I understand the term. And if we do not share the same deity then Christianity need no longer fear that God prefers the Chosen People over the New Israel based on a New Testament. If grounds for fear/jealousy over God's preference is removed so also will be one of the grounds for anti-Judaism and the racial antisemitism it inspired when Europe went secular.
33. re David #12 Thank you
Matthew ,   California   (02.08.08)
Thank you, Sir. Your post is the only reasonable one on the entire thread. It is not my, or the ADL's, business what or how anyone else prays. I have had Bahai, Muslims, and atheists all try to even convert me, and I did not get angry. A free exchange of ideas is essential in a tolerant society. Many Jewish people (at least according to this thread) seem to not only demand that Christians not talk about their beliefs (especially to Jews) with other people, now they demand that Christians not talk about their beliefs with God! I know that there is a long and bitter history between Christians (so called) and Jews. I know Jews have suffered greatly from persecution at the hands of Christianity proclaiming biggots. But Jews are not the only ones with a history of suffering. You should all do a little research into the numbers of peaceful Christians slaughtered over the years-including still today in the Sudan, China, etc. Before you say that it wasn't Jews who did it let me forestall you; so what? We still do not run around dictating to pagans, anamists, communists (wasn't Karl Marx Jewish?) and all of the others who have killed us in the past about how they should pray. Prayer is between people and God. It is not your business.
34. Charles re:Yaakov Sulivan
Yerach ,   Jeruslaem Israel   (02.08.08)
How could he give "his children" any sort of education if he is gay & gays can not & do not populate? He himself has said both here on Ynet & on Haaretz that is gay,so that would mean that he doesn't have any children. Charles indeed you are on target about this dude who calls himself "Yaakov".
35. Fairness
paul malykont ,   United States   (02.08.08)
I wonder how they'd take a prayer for their conversion? A prayer that they specifically, not all non-Christians, are blind. Believers find it hard to respect the legitimacy of others. What a pity, because so many believers are such good people, one on one.
36. No big deal
david ,   Mpls USA   (02.08.08)
as a secure jew i can't tell people how to pray..........IT IS THEIR FAITH......
37. WHY KICK A DEAD HORSE ?
RCA ,   USA   (02.08.08)
In their own way, Catholics are trying to do the right thing in regard to their faith. Their prayer for jews is meant with good intentions even though they can only allow themselves to get behind one point of view. To them it is the truely moral thing to do in hopes that we come to see things their way. Jews can often be the same way in their attitudes when refusing to plainly see the point. I would not wish to pick fights with catholics on something like this which could be seen as very petty. The catholics have come a long way in a short time in their relationship to Jews and they deserve credit. This may be one of those things that requires patience and time to work out. We all know some Jews can be easily excitable. I am for sitting this one out. Better to concentrate on real enemies and not new friends who may be very helpful . May Hashem bless us all, Jews and Catholics

muslim ,   .............   (02.08.08)
it will never work as the moslem look forword as it is the last religion /// and it will not work for the jews also as they look back and it is the first religion but the xtians are lost between forwords and backwords so i think this religion will be faint in islam or may be in judism
39. We Jews pray as we wish.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.08.08)
When we say, "Thank G-d for not making me a woman, thank G-d for not making me a slave, and thank G-d for not making me Gentile", no one tells us that we can't say these prayers. So Catholics, Muslims or anyother group should have the same right to say their prayers as they choose. The ADL, the American Jewish Committee and the International Jewish Committee on Inter-religious Consultations do not represent my opinion. Who are these people? I never voted for them to speak for me.

this yacub told in one TB that he gave his children [ or the children of his "friend" ] a "humanistic judaism " education . He can have also children , maybe he was married once . buthe is an anti Israel for sure

charles ,   petach tikva   (02.08.08)
Even the Italian Rabbanim are cutting off their dialogue with the church . The church is back where it was 40 years ago regarding her relations to the Jews , TRUE Jews . In your tb you show clearly your origins , sorry to say it .
42. They have a right
Oreet   (02.08.08)
Catholics have a right to pray any way they want - that is what is called freedom of religion. We on the other hand should have the sense and the brains to realize that despite all the nice words - they are not our friends and their primary goal is to convert the entire world to their religion. Enough said - ve-ha-meivin yavin.
43. #12 David
Emanuel ,   Karachi, Pakistan   (02.08.08)
I appreciate your views however what the catholics have done in the name of Christianity and Jesus to the jews is unthinkable. Jewish anger is understandable. I am a Christian and I believe that the Catholics should not pray this prayer.
44. I've posted this before, but maybe....
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (02.08.08)
this is a good place to do it again :-) One day, at a religious convention, a Rabbi and a Priest got into a conversation about promotions and job security in their respective fields. Rabbi: So, tell me, where can you go from here? Priest: Well, if I do well, I can become Bishop. Rabbi: That’s nice. Then what? Priest: If I work hard, I can make it to Archbishop. Rabbi: Sounds good, but then what? Priest, slightly irritated: After years of hard work, I can be Cardinal. Rabbi: Sounds impressive. And from there? Priest, now very agitated: Well, I can go to Rome, work hard, make friends, and if I play my politics just right, I can run and maybe get elected to be pope. Rabbi: And then what? Priest, now beside himself: And what, exactly, do you think I should be after that? God? Rabbi, grinning and chuckling: Well, you’ve been trying to convince the world for 2000 years that one of OUR boys made it.

Tell me what do you know about Amida prayer. Birkat h'amininm? If you don't know ask an Orthodox Jew.
46. Foxman - get a real job.
Chaim ,   NJ USA   (02.08.08)
How inane! Why do I care what Xians say or do in their church. That's their business. Abe, spend some of your free time making a difference in Jewish lives like trying to raise funds for Jewish Education.
47. Praying democratically
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (02.08.08)
My house happens to be surrounded by huge oak trees, one of which already parked itself very messily all over my living room in '93. When I hear the words, "tornado warning" and "wind gusts in excess of 50mph" as was the case this week, I'll pray to god directly and, for good measure, in the names of all the saints - demoted, promoted and those in the making - prophets and martyrs I can think of, just in case......Then, if it's during the day, I head for the bank where, under the pretense of checking on things in the safety deposit box, I hide in the vault and keep right on praying. I know this much, though: The last thing on my mind, then or ever, is converting anybody to anything. With or without tornadoes, everybody's on their own for that one. And if I lived long enough to keep all the promises made under those circumstances, Methuselah would be a whippersnapper compared to me.
48. A fact
Ephraim ,   Diaspora   (02.08.08)
True followers of Yeshua HaMashiach are Torah observant. Torah teaches us to love our fellow humanbeings. We are instructed to even care for the animals of our enemies. Catholic doctrine is wrong, but there are many Catholics who try to live righteous lives. There is much in Judaism doctrine that is wrong yet that doesn't condemn all Jews. There is much in Messianic Judaism that is wrong, but our hearts are toward HaShem and His Torah and we love Yeshua our Salvation. Consider these talkbacks. The hate, insults, anger ect. can not be coming from the hearts of people who love HaShem and walk according to His Torah. It seems that a lot of prayer is needed here. We should at least be thankful that someone is trying to petition the Almighty, blessed be He, on our behalf. Will your hateful, bigoted attitudes find you favor in His sight at he Judgment? Show the Catholic Church that they are wrong by your righteousness, not your vile hatred.
49. #45 - Leb Xtian, Al haMinim doesn't mention Xtians...

Better luck next time...
50. Yerach & Charles, 'Yaakov' Sullivan is an impostor...
Joe ,   Los Angeles, CA   (02.08.08)
'Yaakov' Sullivan is an impostor... I exposed him and his faulty logic a few talkbacks ago. He is most likely an Arab posing as a Jew. I prefer, in this light, to call him 'Ahmed'. Feel free to do the same...
51. #41- Charles.
RCA ,   USA   (02.08.08)
Charles, you may be right about the church. I just prefer to wait a little longer and see. Though I have long ago left xtianity (maybe 40 yrs.ago) for Judaism(though I didn't convert till years later), my origins were Lutheran and Catholic, my mother and father respectively, with a smattering of close Jewish aunts, uncles, and cousins. I feel no shame in this . One cannot pick ones parents. I knew early on that something was not right with xtianity, for me anyway. One has to originate somewhere. It's where you end up that is important. I have thought myself lucky through life, in being able to see both sides of an issue when it came to religion and politics. Nothing is permanent and all things change. A good example would be your non-belief in Hashem. Even that has it's meaning and significance in 'this world'.
52. Who cares
Debbie ,   Toronto   (02.08.08)
They can pray all they want, we have the covanent,we have the blessing, what do they have?........ a bunch of mumbling old pedofiles

55. Lebanese Christian #45
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.08.08)
I don't need to consult anybody. Unlike you I actually KNOW the prayer. It does not mention Christians at all, please show us where any Christians are ever mentioned in any prayer.

charles ,   petach tikva   (02.08.08)
...all things change . A good example would be your non belief in a god ,....you wrote . "red mich nischt aan a krenk" Approx translation : don't try to give me an illness . Ask a TRUE Ashkenazi Jew , if you know some TRUE Jews , for more explanations . A propos , Did your "rabbi" already teach you something about Shabbat observance ? Do you know already that writing is not allowed this day ? When will you convert to Judaism , TRUE Judaism ?
57. VATICAN KNOWS THAT JEWS ARE RIGHT
Jorge ,   tegucigalpa   (02.08.08)
That is why across the centuries it has tried either to destroy or convert Jews, as long as there are Jews that carry on the Laws of G d as given in the Torah, their doctrine will be in question.
58. Leb Xtian-How many times a day do U say the Amida?
Alan ,   SA   (02.08.08)
You must be refering to the Hezballa version!Dont talk nonsense about the Amida,Sir

Hey Charlie. Good to hear from you. How's the weather in Chicago? I am sorry to see you still have the hate disease. Don't give up. There is hope.

RCA ,   USA   (02.08.08)
HaHa! I see you enjoy all the mileage you have been getting on the writting on Shabbos thing. You bring it up often in your talkbacks. My Rabbi is gone now, living in Florida, and I have moved 500 away, though we still keep in touch. There is always hope that I may convert to "True Judaism" as you say, ....if I should be inclined in that direction. Who knows how I may develope in the future? Right now, I have the choice of going to a Masorti synagogue nearer to my home than the Reform. It has it's allure, and I may take things a step at a time by joining that one.. Here in the US, Reform Judaism has been moving more quickly toward Masorti, at least superficially . So, Masorti could be fun and not too drastic at once. Orthodox Jews are more than 100 + miles away from here. There is little chance of bumping into one.
