1. What are they waiting for?
Joshua ,   Jersey City, USA   (02.10.08)
That's easy. They're waiting for Gilad Shalit. If the Israelis take any action like that proposed by the author, Shalit will be executed.
2. Israel must INVADE Gaza and OCCUPY the land
So there!   (02.10.08)
The only way to stop the rocket attacks is to deny the land to the enemy.
3. Take over Gaza immidiately
Daniel ,   Israel   (02.10.08)
4. Islamic Jihad are the ones doing it, but Hamas should take
(02.10.08)
responsibility. Of course they won't, because they agree with the actions of Islamic Jihad.
5. A few questions for Mr Fishman.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (02.10.08)
One, why not encourage a division between Gaza & the West Bank? That this prevents the formation of a Palestinian state is just fine. Or, do you support the two-state solution? If you do, then come out & say it. Two, are you saying that the IDF should fight & lose lives to hand over Gaza to Fatah & Abbas? I find that idea really objectionable - this is not the mission of the IDF. Three, you do not mention the constraints on military action imposed upon us by the US. That these constraints are accepted by Olmert, Livni, & Barak is a scandal. I am certainly not saying we should not take drastic action in Gaza against Hamas. Our lack of effective military action is the height of negligence. That the primary reason for our lack of action is the fear of ending our make-believe peace process with Abbas for the sake of Olmert's political advantage is unconscionable. But we should be clear about our objectives & long-term goals. Merely stopping the Kassams temporarily is a poor strategy. I would also note that you did not see fit to recommend a change of leadership given all the failings you so rightly point out. You don't seriously expect us to believe that our current leadership (Olmert, Livni, Barak) can formulate & excecute any effective policy. Or do you?
6. Rules of Engagement
Bill Ross ,   Alabama, USA   (02.10.08)
>>>>We can already see this explosive-laden truck coming at us without brakes. Yet we’re waiting, as always, for the last moment. Not the last *possible* moment, but the last *passable* moment - that moment at which "the world at large" (UN, liberals in US, the enemy) will not frown on our actions as failing to fulfil the "rules of engagement" and "just war theory" that is all the rage in Universities and the White House. But this is not how the enemy fights, by any stretch, and it is fighting in the hopes to get approval for being sacrificially restrained won't ever really get anyone Brownie Points, but it might get you killed. Many a soldier has died, waiting until they are fired upon before firing back. But our leaders wait until they have been so fired upon that they only have such a longshot that they look pitiful rather than sensible. The correct idea of war is to crush the opposition, not appease them and play sacrificial victim. And I'm sorry that my President is so stupid that he wants to fund Hamas with ten billion dollars. I'm sorry. Please take my advise and defend yourself in the way that will be effective and don't be bullied into concessions and dhimmihood by Dhimmi Bush.
7. You think Palestinians will let you can occupy Palestine?
Nash ,   Florida   (02.10.08)
Plaestinians have shown that they won't forget their homes and lands that are still under Jewish occupation. Israel assassinated many Palestinian leaders over the years and Palestinians are not giving up on their country or their determination to have it back.
8. Its you the Israeli peoples fault ...
Jack ,   USA   (02.10.08)
Now that I have your attention of course Israel should take these terror leaders out, they should do so each and every day no matter what collateral damage, But it is you the Israeli people who are at fult for not voting out this dangerous defeatest, left, dem govt. of Olmert, Barak and Livini and even Shas is responsibile. Wake up and smell the coffee already, You need Netanyahu and Arens now.
9. What are we waiting for ? For G. W. Bush.
Steve ,   Fla.   (02.10.08)
Clearly, should Bush fear the Olmert government might fall, he will give his puppet prime minister permission to take out a Hamas leader or two; otherwise what are a few blown off arms and legs? What are a few bloody Jewish bodies to George W. Bush? Bush has no love for the Jews! This writer apparently supports Bush's and Olmert's immoral policies of restraint. Does he call for Olmert's removal? If not, why not?
10. If it walks like a terrorist, looks like a terrorist . . .
Juan ,   Spain   (02.10.08)
Palestinian Islamic Jihad = The Al-Quds = Hamas = Muslim Brotherhood = Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) = Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) = Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) = Fatah = Alliance of Palestinian Forces = FRC = Abu Nidal organization = Palestinian National Liberation Movement = Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine = Tanzim = Martyrs of Tal Al Za'atar = Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade = The Popular Resistance Committees: all of which are dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the creation of an Islamic state in Palestine. Stop pretending there are good guys and bad guys amongst these terrorists. Don't negotiate with them. Speak to them in the only language that they understand.
11. Israeli government
Ray ,   USA   (02.10.08)
Israel has become a nation of fools right out of a Sholem Aleichem story..The chief fool ( a dangerously SUPER STUPID fool) PM Olmert sits by seemingly waiting for the power plant or a chemical facility in Ashkelon to get hit Sederot,s population is expendable in his weak mind...The public hardly minds ,so he and his cowardly and selfish cabinet go on there merry way negotiating the end of their country as a worthwhile state. A fable from Sholem Aleichem would never have been this strange.
12. Even getting Israel wont satisfy them
arun ,   London, uk   (02.10.08)
Even if they got all of the tiny country of Israel (one third the size of Sinai), the Palestinians growing fivefold every fifty years , wont be satisfied. In fifty years they will zoom from 5m in the area to 25m while Jews might struggle to get to 8m. Demolish ten Hamas linked buildings for every Israeli wounder , and one Hamas building for every rocket . Let Hamas official and fighters shiver in the cold until they come to their senses.
13. targeted assassination is not that easy
observer   (02.10.08)
The assassinations of key political and military activists may invite similar attempts on the lives of Israeli leaders. The death of Abu-‘Ali Mustafa, secretary-general of the PFLP, assassinated in August 2001, prompted the killing two months later of Israeli minister of tourism Rehavam Ze'evi. Following the killing of Salah Shihada, a Palestinian militant group, the Popular Army Front–Return Battalions, responded by releasing a hit list of twenty prominent Israeli officials, with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at the top.Targeting Palestinian militants has put at risk thousands of IDF officers and their families who may become targets of Palestinian retaliatory action. This threat is not taken lightly in the IDF. For the first time in Israel's history, Israeli generals now have bodyguards assigned to them. http://www.meforum.org/article/515 In August 3, 2001, the White House's Spokesman's answer to the question: Do you stand by your statement when you said that the administration at all levels deplore the violence there and that includes the targeted killings? MR. FLEISCHER: There is no doubt. That is the position of the administration and is shared by all members of it. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/briefings/20010803.html#some%20justification The international law prohibits assassinations both in times of peace and in times of war. Furthermore, infringement on the sovereignty of other nations, especially by the imposition of extrajudicial punishment on their citizens, is a gross violation of international law. The Hamas government has not been recognized by Israel & other countries, and, therefore from a legal point of view, is not bound by the set of norms, rules, and treaties with which most states comply.
14. why won't we cut the crap?
(02.10.08)
I've been following the qasam attacks since the "cease fire" of November 06, and nearly 90% of all attacks were done by 'Islamic jihad' group. but our government are so keen on destroying hamas, that they use these attacks to bring down hamas. Now, i'm not saying that hamas shouldn't be stopped, but actually go after those who are shooting the majority of rockets, ie - Islamic Jihad.
15. In all the months I have been reading ynet..
Chalanau, Tova ,   London, UK   (02.10.08)
.. I have never seen one word of any value, of any humanity or decency in the entire sorry output of Alex Fishman; pure racist venom, every time. If he were never to write another word in his life he will have already spread more than enough malice and spite for all the people of Israel to last a lifetime.
16. Only in Israel
Salameh ,   Gaza, Palestine   (02.10.08)
If ANY writer in ANY state calls for the murder of their opponents, they would call HIM/HER an inciter and would be held legally responsible for incitment, but the occupation state that is all built on the foundation of Palestinians stolen rights and lands has no such norms simply because it is an illegal state to begin with
17. Restraint Regarding Hamas
Robbie ,   Antioch, USA   (02.10.08)
No nation that values its freedom and the safety of its citizens should countenance a policy of suffering even one rocket attack. The time to act has long since past and the consequences of continued inaction only play into the hands of those who wish all Jewish Israelis dead!
18. #13
(02.10.08)
Yep, so count their leaders as dead right now. have a good one.
19. #1...
Micha   (02.10.08)
Shalit is already dead, most likely scenario. He is being used to pull at the heart strings of the Jews worldwide. Because Jews actually care for and love their own people. Unlike most of the arab world, Jews don't preach killing. But if arabs bring it to our doorstep, we will eradicate them, everywhere.
20. to # 16
(02.10.08)
Illegal state?? What about UN State Member since 1948. funny ignorant
21. I Know What I'm "Waiting For" ...
Dan Friedman ,   NYC USA   (02.10.08)
A direct hit by ten Qassams on the Knesset in full session while debating what to do next about Sderot.
22. #16you mean every place in the world, except muslim countries
(02.10.08)
23. #15 Your posts...Chanalulu
Lina ,   USA   (02.10.08)
Of all the posts you've placed on YNET, I've never read one that speaks of humanity. Only anti-Israel rhetoric. For you, defending Israel equates to "racist venom". Stick to your Save Gaza campaign but please take a close look at how Palestinian terrorists are holding the Palestinians hostage.
24. The next war against Gaza Terrorists is rapidly approaching
Squalid Ibn Harman ,   Qtir   (02.11.08)
The question is will it be properly prosecuted or will we fall into a Hamas trap. With the breaching of the Borders, Hamas smuggled tons of weapons and explosives into Gaza. One can easily assume that massive areas will be booby trapped like they were in Jenin. But in Jenin we had Arik Sharon who outsmarted the terrorists, blew holes in the houses to pass safely from one apartment to another. Here we too need to outsmart the terrorists but unfortunately we are still stuck with incompetent and stupid Olmert. We must line the border with Gaza with thousands of tanks, mortars, etc. We must wait with one hand on the switch for electricity, gas, and water and the other hand on the trigger and wait for the next Qassam. At that time we cut all electricity, gas, and water while beginning a massive shelling of Gaza returning the thousand of round of Qassams that were indescriminately fired at us. No needless risking of Israel lives. No David and Goliath fables. No expensive helicopter or planes and costly laser guided missiles. Just inaccurate cheap mortars and tank shells firing thousands of rounds. And after several thousand rounds and the pulverization of massive areas in Gaza, the Gazans will know what the people of Sderot experienced and will beg Hamas, PRC, IJ, and El Aqsa to stop. And when life returns to normal in Sderot we should consider stopping the shelling. They have been shelling Sderot for years now. I imagine a few months of massive shelling will teach them a lesson. The primary responsibility of the Israeli govt is too protect ISRAELI lives and not that of our enemies and the voters who democratically elected terrorists to represent them in govt.
25. Alex is 100% correct.
David ,   Hartford USA   (02.11.08)
Get out the big guns. Load them with incindiary shells. Shake the earth with their explosions. Hamas likes to play with rockets, let's give them a big taste of their own medicine. And if another rocket comes over, repeat the process until there is nothing left but rubble. A government that won't protect its people from a foreign menace must be toppled by any method. Israel arise and take back your destiny!
26. sharon left gaza, and israel will enter it again.
palestine ,   pal   (02.11.08)
27. israel
(02.11.08)
i would jus like to say that the israeli prime minister has no heart,, he asks why rockets are being fired into israle,, well duh!!! isn't it obvious,, hes sending troops to gaza killing babies children executing innocents, does he not have a heart,, just imagine having small children babies blown up in front of you, limbs flying everywhere, just think if this happened to your family what would you do? would you sit down and not care or would you take action. even though i'm a kid in a different country it still affects me because i have a heart unlike some people ie: israeli troops and of course the "lovely" prime minister.
28. What are we waiting for?
Bob Wallace ,   Jacksonville, FL.   (02.11.08)
It is time that the Isralie pople, get rid of that discrace Olmert, and stand up for what is right. The only thing Hamas undersands is brute force. Don't let the "Bleading Heart" world press slobber over "Humanitarian Causes" Hamas has not idea about such things.
29. #24.............i concur 100%
(02.11.08)
30. to # 24.......I totally agree!......makes perfect sense!
