31. Israel is not just a country, its jewish!
Proud Israeli   (02.16.08)
If israel acts just like any other secular country it will have no reason to exist. Israel exists as a jewish country and should stay this way. if Israel plans to be like any other country then theres no point having it at all.
32. To anonymous # 30
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.16.08)
Are you ashamed of your writing ? I think so , otherwise why anonymously ? Maybe you are right , you have to be ashamed . What kind of rights are granted to Jews in other countries , and not in Israel ? Give the rights + countries . PS : i'm not hiding behind a fancy name , and i'm living in petach tikva .
33. #32 i'm not hiding behind a fancy ...

Who cares? Jerk
34. Poor # 33 who signs Jerk

At least you have a name now . Jerk . But you did'nt answer my question , Mr Jerk
35. Even more religious blackmail
Simon ,   TA Israel   (02.18.08)
it seem the members of the Knesset are really out of touch with reality. Israel is a democratic state not a state run according to Halacha. Its a persons basic right to choose their level of religious observance or not at all. Just another chance for the Orthadox to force their life style and make more money off the secular public. Luckily couples have the choice of a civil ceremony in Cyprus which is recognied here.

"To me, religion must be voluntary. Otherwise, where is the sincerity ? The nefesh ? The neshemah ? " How can it be voluntary when many intermarried couples do not inform their kids they are Jewish or providing them with a Jewish education? After one or two generations of intermarriage, these Jewish people are lost to their nation!
37. Israel , # 36
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.19.08)
For your info : RCA is a reform convert . For him , as for others , the Jewish people is'nt important .
38. #37-Charles. You are being too harsh.
RCA ,   USA   (02.20.08)
How can you say this ? I just see things, at times, different than you. If I thought that the Jewish people were not important, I would not be involved here, I would not donate, and I would not be interested in learning Hebrew. I certainly would not be interested in Jewish religion and culture and the survival of Israel , if that were the case. The truth is, when one joins any group, organization, or people, you see and learn about both the good and the not-so- good. Also, when you live in the US, you are given a very interesting vantage point. You might call it the Galut, but I call it a mountain.
39. charles , petach tikva -THIS IS FOR YOU...
Carol   (02.21.08)
dont u think Charles that this is an free-opinion setting. I mean, we Jewish people have suffered and endured a lot of anti-semitism- Why do u speak like that? You are making everyone think that we Jews are more anti-semitists than anyone...

charles ,   petach tikva   (02.21.08)
If you think that having mixed couples in your midst is being interested in the future of the Jewish people , free to you . But it's also free to me to think that your interest in the future of MY Jewish People , is non existing by thinking so .
41. #31: Jew is not a religion!
proud secular jew   (10.30.08)
42. civil mariage
Michelle Wayne ,   Sydney Australia   (11.24.08)
It's a shame that a country like Israel that i consider the most modern in the world is so much behind the world in this subget. The is also many jewish peaple who don't consider them self religus only traditional that would like to be married but not by ortodox rabi. Thay cosider that this mariage is based on foulse pretendence.
