1. OBVIOUS
zionist firever   (02.17.08)
When you have over 1 million Russians living in Israel why should it be such a big suprise. Russians are famous for loving their vodka so it makes sense that you have alot of Russians your going to have alot of vodka drinkers.
2. $100 Vodka costs $30 in the US or Germany.

3. Don't go vodka, drink champagne instead, vodka indecent

4. Vodka consumption
Marc ,   New Orleans   (02.18.08)
Is this something to be proud of! Obviously this shows that Israelis are advanced right? The writers of yediot have the collective IQ of chewing gum!
5. Not something to be proud of
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (02.18.08)
It is a very sinister sign of the state of our country and where it will head. We are not talking about high-scale cocktails here, but rather drunks in the street who break into people's homes in their violent stupor. Better stick to the increasingly high-scale Israeli wine industry if you want to prevent yeridah.
6. I'll drink to that
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (02.17.08)
This is the most depresing article I have read in a very long period of time. When you consider that it is Israel, it is even worse. Those who drink Vodka or Slivovitz are known to be uncivilized muzhiks and bolsheviks at heart. However Single Malt bespeaks a person who can be spoken calmly to and with whom a decent cigar and good jazz may be shared. That is what comes from the socalist roots of a nation in the process of being ruined by it's masters who most likely gulp clear spirts like savages.
7. I like you, do you like me?
A ,   Jerusalem   (02.17.08)
Russians are responsible for the majority of the increase. However, my arrival to the country, and subsequent "hard luck" has tipped the scales. If I leave or meet a nice girl that cleans me up, vodka consumption in Israel will plummet.
8. Vodka is the cleanest drink
George Saliba ,   Canada   (02.18.08)
Telling that vodka is the drink of the bolshevik or proletariat bull shitt. Here in north America the bottle of Absolut Vodka (my preferable drink) is the best seller drink comparing to price.Try Crappa stravidcce you will like for sure.
9. Burp !
Ptomaine Joe   (02.18.08)
urp.
10. Oh, how the nation has changed
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.18.08)
When I was first in Israel in 1970-71, the folks at Carmel would sometimes remark that the Israelis weren't big drinkers, even of wine. That Israel has become such a major consumer of vodka is certainly a reflection of the large numbers from the FSU who brought their drinking habits to the country. That some are buying "premium" brands suggests that many have succeeded financially. Others just drink the chief stuff, often to excess. That's nothing to be proud of.
11. Better be nice to Vlady
(02.18.08)
If you make him mad he'll cut you off!!
12. Vodka
cp ,   Israel   (02.18.08)
Vodka was the main instrument during the Czarism period to keep the people quite. The Bolshevists used it also for the same reason... MY conclusion: Our so called leaders here in Israel intend the same...
13. not that simple
Eli ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.18.08)
I see people (and not only russians) buy a bottle of Vodka and a six pack of energy drinks (XL or whatever it's name is), every singe time I go to my little supermarket. Why are people drinking all this junk? Drink some fine fine once in a while, not this crap.
14. Well, lehayim then!
Willy ,   Israel   (02.18.08)
15. Understandable
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (02.18.08)
Israel's incompetent government and it's neverending blundering is causing the public to turn to drink.
16. Arabic invention
Damir ,   Russia   (02.19.08)
Circa 10th century spirit was invented by some Arab. Can't see any contradictions in it is being popular in the same regions.
17. To #7
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (02.22.08)
Did you know my mother??? She used to tell her daughters not to judge a man until after he's been pulled out of the gutter, brought home, thoroughly cleaned up, de-loused, disinfected, and strapped to the proverbial off-the-booze wagon for a year. The mental pictures of this "procedure" grew more dreadful with the passage of time until drinking men were to us what sunlight and garlic are to vampires, which is more than likely exactly what she had in mind. So, if you’re counting on that nice girl, better hope she doesn’t have a mother like I did :-) Prosit!
18. i prefer
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.23.08)
the "liqueur de poire williams" , the true Swiss one . That's a drink ! When i visited here for the first time , in 1960 , you did'nt see much beer , and certainly not those alcoholic beverages . People were drinking fruit Juice and "gazoz"
