1. Are you an appologist or satirist?
Max L ,   Los Angeles, Ca   (02.21.08)
You mean to tell me if the international sactions to Hamas, airstrikes against hamas terrorist strongholds, and the threat of the worlds most sophisticated and experienced army (Israel) don't convince Hamas to change there way, some how your desperately sounding letter is going to change their ideoloically skewed and fundamentalists values? You think Hamas reads ynet? I surely hope you are being cynical, because you are only appeasing for the destruction of the state of israel
2. Sure Hamas reads Ynet
Chris ,   Warsaw Poland   (02.21.08)
as all the other israeli newspapers, as for them it is a source of strategic information about their enemy. Let me only guess, why will Hamas not follow these advices... :)
3. Our Gov.
karo ,   Germany   (02.21.08)
What about an open letter to the Israeli government too? to stop their war against civilians and allow basic life needs? to stop messing with hizballah and dangering jews around the world? Its time to think about israeli actions!
4. Prof. Dror Ze’evi
Voice of Reason ,   Here & Now   (02.21.08)
Dear Prof. Dror, this realy sounds good. But do you realy think anyone is listening? # 1 said it also. Hamas reads YNET? You are wrtiing to leaders (sic) who care about their people. NOT. Much like the Israeli leaders who care about their people. NOT. No one realy cares about the "suffering" Palis or the people of Sderot for that matter. all they realy want is what they can get for themselves. Period.
5. does hamas care what palestinians/anyone thinks about them?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.21.08)
why does anyone think that hamas' displays of perverted barbarism and lust for genocide (in the name of their "religion") are embarrassing to them? stop appealing to their supposed sense of decency because they themselves have always said without wavering that they are all about blood and death. they are monsters and you can't reason with monsters.
6. Mike #5
Simon ,   London UK   (02.21.08)
Mike you hit the nail on the head. You can not judge a pre-modern value system with post modern yard stick. When will these Liberal Facists understand this?
7. Wow!
joseph ,   israel   (02.21.08)
Empty threats! That is scary. Hamas is shaking in its boots! The author should learn from Amir Peretz and add "Ismail Haniyah will remember the name Dror Zeevi"
8. Professor and observer ?!!!
George Saliba ,   Canada   (02.21.08)
First,Hania keep asking for a cease fire ,just last week offered as such deal. Hamas halted the military action for almost a year Prove to Israel and to the world that hey are capable of it and fulfill Abbas will, but Israel continue its assassination and preemptive target, which consider its right even when no Quassam flying in the air. Second ,what you give Abbas to show Palestinian a small hope for peace ,Anapolis ?nothing but endless talk for talk You left no options for palestinian to choose from ,yes this is self suicide options for palestinian ,but your are killing them anyway no matter what. Can continue on ... Professor and observer and don't know simple facts?
9. The author of this article is clearly brain dead.
Gary A., MD ,   Boston, USA   (02.21.08)
Journalistic garbage at its worse.
10. ZE'EVI AND UNIFIL TROOPS
JOHN ISH ISHMAEL ,   TORONTO CANADA   (02.21.08)
Curious: "the (fictitious) success of the Second Lebanon War. " This professor is still in denial. Curiouser: "Even Hizbullah won’t be able to get you out of this mess THIS TIME AROUND. " Ze'evi could offer his militaryand political advice to his government? "... declare immediately and openly a full ceasefire in the Strip, and maintain it even in the face of continued Israeli attacks." One aftermath of a massive Israeli assault on this minimally armed People would be the insertion of fully armed UNIFIL troops on Gaza's and maybe the WB's borders, followed by a Declaration of Independence [al la Israel]. Such a declaration is decades overdue and might save Israel from its own self destructive psychosis [and a move to Canada as I have written in "CHOSEN WORLD - Our war on Islam and our own freedoms"] May the People of both states find safety.
11. Appealing to Hamas
Bill Ross ,   Alabama, USA   (02.21.08)
Prof Ze'evi, your appeal for truce is reasonable, but it is being made to someone profoundly unreasonable - so it is foolishness. Hamas' agenda is neither peace, security for "Palestinians" or saving the world. The agenda set forth in the Quran is conquest and martyrdom. A truce accomplishes neither of these agendas. If you want to make an appeal that is in line with their agenda, I suggest: "...perhaps you will damage Israel more by..." or "...you will get great glory and reward from Allah by..." http://billrosspolitics.blogspot.com

13. This author invites attacks on Sderot
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (02.21.08)
Why YNET openly invites attacks on Sderot via this author?
14. Hamas Response to Prof. Ze'evi:
Khaled Mashaal ,   Somewhere undergroun   (02.21.08)
To Prof. Ze'evi: Though humor is not encouraged in the Quran, our General Command had a hearty laugh upon reading your solicitious pleading on behalf of reason and restraint. We will restrain nothing. We aim only to prove our crystal-clear goal of annihilating the Jewish state, and eventually all Jews. The tone of your letter demonstrates our proproganda has successfully convinced your intellectual elites that you are dealing with, say, Canadians. You still don't 'get it.' No mind, our bombs will eventually convince you.
15. Someone is listening
Kamal ,   UAE   (02.21.08)
I salute your courage for writing this open invitation for truce. HAMAS has done this before (they implemented several truces 2005/2006/2007). I believe that HAMAS is more interested in truce than Israel for many reasons! I guess that every day that witnesses no rockets or firing from Gaza is a tentative truce that can continue if noting comes out from the other side of the border. Haven’t you noticed that? Rockets are solely fired when Israel attacks (either in WB or Gaza). So the bottom line, there is willingness on Hamas part because it’s in their interest and in the Palestinian people’s interests… Guess what.. it’s not in the Abbas’s interest to have truce between Hamas and Israel and maybe due to strategic alliance between Abbas and two Ehuds, truce is not an Israeli option.
16. I had no idea the academic standard here was THAT bad
Adam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.22.08)
17. but, what??
dr mohammad ,   london   (02.21.08)
hi, Prof. Ze’evi as academic you have to have a look entirely and from all sides, yes you are strong, your are able to destroy and do what do you want iguess from military point of view, but what portions have you left for peace?? dont we have the right to live in our state as well as all the people over the world?!! dont we have the right to build our infrastructure, ? ...etc unfortunately all what you have said is focused on hamas and their problems, even you didnt blame your govement for many hestation steps towrds confidence built?and try to get rid of this hill situation that we both live in. usa , uk or whatever will not be able to help you to be strong for ever, you know there is equations and changable parameters so please try to be wise and give the proper treatment for the problem which is completely withdrawal from all the occupied lands, at that time no excuse for any front to fight, you as israeli try this and you'll see what does the future hold
18. Kamal #15 are you kidding?
Chris ,   Poland Warsaw   (02.22.08)
Israel gets some 3 rockets a day in average for all the time and you say that they solely attack when IDF does? I'd like to remind you the Hamas's open condemnation of Annapolis peace talk, where rockets from Gaza didn't stop firing neither before, nor during the talks. It was only when Israel started killing their combatants (distinguishing between civilians and them with quite high precision), when Hamas proposed cease fire. You apparently watch the conflict reading too little newspapers... Considering 2005 that you mention - you are not informed that in December rally in Damascus Hamasniks incited crowd to sing 'we will take over Safed,Haifa,Ashkelon,Ashdod' and 'Destroy Tel Aviv'.It's not a fable, Kamal...
19. #5 who created that monster?
rich ,   ny   (02.22.08)
Go stand in front ot the mirror. The more you WAR the more monsters you are creating. You are the link in the evil chain handed to you by Hitler. If you want to impress me and the world then break that chain of evil, maybe then a chain of good can start.
20. #14 you are not hammas
rich ,   ny   (02.22.08)
you are someone playing reverse phsycology.
21. Dr. Mohammed....
Allegiance ,   USA   (02.22.08)
You had your chance to build infrastructure with the billions upon billions of Euro and American dollars (and Japanese Yen) but your leaders chose to line their pockets instead. Instead of building schools and clinics in Gaza, you turned it into a Kassem missle launching pad. Confidence-building works both ways..... Israel gave tangibles.. Land, Money, Recognition.... you keep pushing the goal post farther away each time Israel gives. We say 'Enough'.
22. 19 - you can't blame pal perversion on anyone else
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.22.08)
palestinians alone are solely responsible for their actions. by the way, i'm a gentile with an arab christian wife - i have NO stake in this conflict. and from that perspective i can say that israel has, in fact, stopped the so-called "chain of evil" by the unparallelled restraint with which they deal with the screamers of genocide. israel got out of the sinai and gaza while the terrorists are only ratcheting up their will to fight and destroy jews. whatever settlement building that so enrages islamists has been shown to be a non-issue because, as the gaza disengagement showed, those things can be completely reversed and nullified in a matter of moments. which is also why responsibility for the lack of peace here is squarely placed at the feet of the islamist terrorists. don't believe me? listen to their own words - they say it plainly, clearly, and without hesitation or shame. actions + words = truth.
23. There are dozens of cases of amputation legs in cold blood
Rami Abu Ghalyion ,   Cairo-Egypt   (02.22.08)
Hamas is responsible for the destruction of all earnings power and the Palestinian cause, Hamas does not want to recognize the existence of the State of Israel as a state list and recognized by the United Nations, Hamas does not want to deal on the basis of the existence of an international community and a superpower, amas wants to continue firing rockets on frivolous communities Israeli, and this certainly leads to reaction and the reaction The best way to deal with Israel is placing Israel in a corner and show Israel's crimes to the international community,There are many reasons make me stand Against Hamas, personally I have dozens of friends there from Gaza Strip,We spoke on more than one occasion for the crimes committed by Hamas only because of differences in ideological, just imagine that there are There are dozens of cases of amputation legs in cold blood, all i can says Hamas is bad for us
24. #22 Were they monsters before you occupied?
rich ,   ny   (02.23.08)
People are not born monsters. There is a trigger. It makes me sick what hammas does; it makes me sick that israel uses them as an excuse to not give palestinians a fully sovereign state. Sometimes I wonder if you really do not want that excuse to exist? Give them a state make peace and then you have all the right in the world to severly punish those monsters. Actually, you would not have to anymore as their own people will do then.
25. to rich ny
poor ,   palastin   (02.23.08)
you are like me you believe him when he said yesterday that the decision of war or peace is with israil //
26. 24 - i haven't occupied anything
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.23.08)
sorry you can't read. you are right that people aren't born monsters - the perverted culture of death and martyrdom that is fed to innocent children against jewish innocent children comes from the palestinians themselves, not israel. every culture or nation has their own tragedies, wars, injustices. no one responds as disgustingly as palestinians and other islamic groups do. there is ALWAYS a trigger, but look at how quickly these people do the most unspeakable and inhumane things. as an outsider living among jews (with arab children in their schools) we have seen how jews go out of their way to accept us as arabs, and how quickly and readily they quash any negative talk against arabs. that means a lot to us, especially in light of how palestinians/islamists talk against them. why doesn't israel turn into monsters since there are plenty of "triggers" for them to do so? in fact, we have been treated worse by fellow arabs, sometimes simply because we won't join their hatefest. something is screwed up with palestinian culture - it poisons everything and everyone. think what you want, but my eyes were opened once i began to live here among jews and i saw for myself how palestinians have been so completely lying about the way they are treated. they have it better, and are treated better, here than surrounding countries. that's the fact, if anyone is willing to be honest about it.
27. Dear Dr. Dror
Jalal Y. Marzouq ,   Gaza - Palestine   (02.23.08)
It's a pleasure to talk to you sir as you know there is nothing to lose for us as Palestinians as well as we have no choice in this war the strong side is israel, this make israel more responsible for war continuity for me .. i will be so happy when israel decide either to nuke up gaza city or to open up all borders. by tow ways we can call it a decision . anyway sir i can see how poor are the decision makers in israel, and i hope israel can get a good and clean leaders nearly.
28. What logic!!!
BB ,   US   (02.24.08)
"declare immediately and openly a full ceasefire in the Strip, and maintain it even in the face of continued Israeli attacks" Hamas declared a unilateral cesaefire which held for one year and all it saw in return is continued attacks and assassinations. Why doesnt this professor ask Olmert and Barak to declare a unilateral ceasefire even if the qassam rockets continue? or is it ok for palestinians to be continually attacked but not for the israelis?
29. to 26 formerly usa
25 ,   jerusalem   (02.24.08)
the first is the culture /what culture do you have is it the religion or is it the place // sure i have my culture from both but sure the history it meanes the time here will change the culture but still the place and religion do the best with or without education .. so in my openion i want to know your culture ///realy is it a culture of peace ////// second i think the one carry the religion with him to any country but can not carry the place on his back and also you carry the history or the history will carry you if you like it or not .with or without your preferable culture
30. 29 - sorry you can't read too
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.24.08)
or write clearly. i am not jewish and this is not my culture. you have no answer to what i wrote in #5, 22, 26. you attack me (or what you thought i am) because you know that what i wrote is true and can't deny it. that's ok because you prove that i'm right when you do that.
